FYI : Conflict of Interest and User Name problems

[edit]

Your editing and user name are not in accordance with Wikipedia's conflict of interest (as found at WP:COI and user name (at WP:USERNAME) policies and guidelines. Please read about these things and act accordingly from now on. Thank you. Afterwriting (talk) 00:55, 15 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Help me!

[edit]

Please help me with...Someone just deleted all of my changes to the wikipedia page and says I don't have the right username or proper edits. I read the rules and I don't understand what was wrong. Please help. I am the marketing and admissions manager for Sofia University (California) and I have the right to use all seals and logos for ITP and Sofia University. I ask that my edits be restored. I can show proof as an employee of the University that I have a right to edit and make use of the seals and logos on this page. Thank you!

Okay, so there are a few issues here which are all interconnected, so I'll split them up a bit:
  • Username - per the Username policy (specifically Usernames implying shared use) users are not allowed to have company/promotional names or names that imply shared use. Thus, you cannot have a name implying you are Sofia University. To remedy this, go to WP:CHUS and request a username. If you still wish to retain your affiliation you could ask for "Jack at SofiaU", "Jill.SofiaU", etc.
  • Conflict of interest: You work for Sofia U, therefore you have a conflict of interest. This isn't strictly prohibited, but per the Terms of Use you must do certain things, such as declaring your paid status using {{paid}} on your userpage. Additionally, major changes to a page must be proposed/requested by using {{request edit}} on the talk page of the Article to ensure neutrality.
  • Content: in taking a look at your contributions to the SofiaU article, there are two main issues. The first is that on Wikipedia we avoid mission statements. This is why your first three paragraphs were removed. Some of the other content was rather promotional, and phrases like "...Sofia became the university that is transforming the world..." are not written from a neutral point of view. Finally, most Wiki pages on universities do not list their degree programs, as this content is more appropriately found on the institution's own website.
I hope this has clarified things a little bit. If you want more help, stop by the Teahouse, Wikipedia's live help channel, or the help desk to ask someone for assistance. To reply directly to me, start your message with {{u|Primefac}}Primefac (talk) 16:18, 15 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'd like to add the page Promotional names. With regards to your use of seals and logos, since Wikipedia is freely licensed, content used on it must conform to that license. This means that copyrighted material aren't allowed if licensed under a non-free license, even if the user has permission to use it. Some exceptions to that exist (such as an OTRS request giving Wikipedia permission for use), but in general non-free material won't be accepted (see Image use policy).
I will post a welcome message in a new section that contains useful links to different policies and guidelines that you should definitely read. I wish you the best. —Hexafluoride Ping me if you need help, or post on my talk 16:31, 15 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, SofiaUPaloAlto, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
