File permission problem with File:CharliesSnap-HW13.png

Thanks for uploading File:CharliesSnap-HW13.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. Education Program request

Sorry for not responding more quickly. It looks like Jami got back to you—I now see Prof. Ogg's course on the official list for the fall semester. Let me know if you need any assistance (an additional campus ambassador, for instance—particularly if the course is in D.C.) going forward. Pongr (talk) 05:48, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

It's an online course, so their won't be any "campus ambassador", per se. That's why I'm listed as CA/OA. We've also enlisted Doc James, and I added him to the course table. Thanks! Klortho (talk) 13:54, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

Your recent edits

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button or located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when they said it. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 02:50, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

Shorter PMC URL?

I've suggested using a short form of the PMC URL at Help_talk:Citation_Style_1#pmc_broken_in_cite_journal and mentioned your name, if that is of interest. Also have sketched what I think is needed for adding GeneReview_mult at Template talk:Infobox disease, but haven't yet done any real template work, so don't know how to safely test it. I mainly fiddle with citations, using David Iberri's [Template filler (up on CPAN). It needs some work to go back up on toolserver.org, to cope with the GeneReviews PMIDs, that returns XML it doesn't parse and could do better in handling URLs passed in that needn't just generate a cite web. I should put some of my write-only scripts up at Wikipedia:Scripts/Perl scripts. Thanks, RDBrown (talk) 14:07, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

Some baklava for you!

Thanks, Chris, for sorting out those infobox issues! The option to include more than one MeSH term is can be a relevant one. Regards, MistyMorn (talk) 10:02, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

P.S. Can I interest you in this? I feel sure your presence would be appreciated. —MistyMorn (talk) 10:13, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

Thank you!! I didn't expect this edit request to be so tough! And, yes, I'm interested in that project, but I'm pretty new here, and I've just started to get involved in Wikipedia:WikiProject_Molecular_and_Cellular_Biology, and have my hands pretty full, right now, I'm afraid. Thanks again! Klortho (talk) 12:40, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

Introducing myself

Hi, My name is Amy and I am in section 83 of Molecular Biology Fall 2012. I am just getting started with my Wikipedia project for the semester. So, just wanted to introduce myself and say "hi". Aehall47 (talk) 01:21, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Amy! Nice to meet you! Klortho (talk) 01:50, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

Introduction

Hello Chris,

My name is Shan (pronounced Sean or Shawn) and I would just like to introduce myself as part of Professor Ogg's Molecular Biology Section 81 course. Like you, I am also a graduate student in JHU's Bioinformatics program. This will be my first semester so perhaps you can coach me through the program.

Nice to meet you, ShanSabri (talk) 02:16, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Shan, thanks for the introduction. Nice to meet you too! Good luck in your Molecular Biology course, and I hope you enjoy editing Wikipedia! Klortho (talk) 10:50, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

Hello from Charity Ogunsanya

Hello Cris,

My name is Charity Ogunsanya. I am Dr. Ogg's Molecular Biology student. I am testing my wiki page that I just created per her instructions for Unit 3. It is exciting to be able to do this.

Seguncha (talk) 21:22, 14 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Charity, nice to meet you! Here is one comment. When you sign your edits on a talk page (like the one you just made above) put the four tildes (~~~~) on the same line, immediately following the last word of your post. It's the convention, and it makes it easier to associate the post with the signature. Like this: Klortho (talk) 01:06, 15 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi!

Hi Chris!

Thanks for the welcome! I don't know if you can see this info, but I'm in Section 81 of Dr. Ogg's Mol. Bio. class. I've always visited Wikipedia only to read articles, but I never edited, so this whole experience is... new. Here's to learning the Wikipedia ropes soon :) Rashaalam (talk) 02:21, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Rasha. Welcome to (editing) Wikipedia! I hope that you find it as rewarding an experience as I do. Like you, I visit Wikipedia often (daily), and I find that it's nice to try to give something back to the community, that has helped me so much. Cheers! Klortho (talk) 03:08, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks! And thank you for the Bollywood portal page! I'll definitely check it out :) Rashaalam (talk) 03:39, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

Molecular biology class - possible tasks

I wonder if there is anything relating to the vault proteins that can be updated? This seems an important area that is not fully covered.

One specific gap I have noticed (albeit a rather tedious task) is to create a section at Varicella zoster virus equivalent to Herpes_simplex_virus#Viral genome. I have seen an equivalent table in a text book, though there are more gaps in our knowledge of HZV than with HSV. I suspect that the same is true of other viruses for which we have articles.

Rich Farmbrough, 13:56, 19 September 2012 (UTC).

Thanks for this suggestion. I will pass it along to the class' professor. Klortho (talk) 14:30, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
Hi, Rich, can it really be that this entire table is maintained by hand? I was at wikimania this past summer, and there was a lot of buzz about wikidata, and I'm wondering if you're aware of any efforts to have this kind of thing be database-driven. If you are, could you tell me where would one go to get started looking for those kinds of projects? Klortho (talk) 14:35, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
The table is a great resource, but in the interest of the class project, I think the links to the proteins coded by the genes and their function is more relevant. If the students could add the table and begin to fill in the gaps with functional information, this would be a great addition. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sherry Ogg (talkcontribs) 19:30, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
Indeed it would! Rich Farmbrough, 15:01, 21 September 2012 (UTC).
I am looking at viruses, proteins and genes right now, and am very interested in making advances in the way you describe. There is work that has been done and is being done, by Protein Box Bot, RFam Bot and others (if I have the names right) but there is more to be done. I have started looking at the databases listed at http://www.oxfordjournals.org/nar/database/a/ but pointers from those working in the field would be appreciated. Rich Farmbrough, 15:00, 21 September 2012 (UTC).

Hi Klortho

Hello Klortho,

Changing MolBio Sections

Hi Chris! Hope you're enjoying your day. I added myself to the Section 81 class page and just realized I'm actually in Section 83. Oops. I switched my username in the Students list over to the right section; is there anything else I need to do? Thanks! Db4an (talk) 15:47, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

No, that's fine -- good job fixing it! One suggestion would be, when you make a change that's potentially confusing, you could put a very brief edit summary to explain it, like "moving my name to other section", for example. Klortho (talk) 16:23, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Hello!

Hi Chris, Thanks for the welcome. I too am new to editing Wikipedia, hopefully things go smoothly. Katesee (talk) 16:56, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Don't worry about being new. I still feel like a newbie when interacting with some of the folks here. I often take strength from the Wikipedia:Be_bold policy. I hope you enjoy the experience! Klortho (talk) 16:59, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Howdy!

Good Morning!

How are you on this fine day?

My name is Michelle and I am also creating/testing my wiki project for Molecular Bio class. I am really enjoying this cooler weather, actually beginning to feel like fall. I do not know where you are, but in Texas we have record lengths of 3-digit temperatures so I am ready for the change of seasons.

Have a great weekend!

Mica717 (talk) 16:13, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Michelle, thanks for the greeting! I live in Maryland, in the Washington, D.C. suburbs. It's cooler here, too; lately it has been very pleasant. You have a nice weekend, too! Klortho (talk) 16:46, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Greetings!!

Hello Klortho!! My name is Hanna Baradei, feel free to call me John (english for Hanna). I am a student in Professor Ogg's Molecular Biology class at Johns Hopkins University. Just wanted to introduce myself. This is my first time doing anything but reading entries on wikipedia and am excited by the idea of placing my own stamp on subjects that I feel I can add something to! Jbaradei (talk) 21:54, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi Hanna, nice to meet you! I'm glad you're excited by the idea -- I'm excited too, hoping that these classes result in a lot of important improvements in these topics. Thanks for the introduction! Klortho (talk) 00:54, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Question about watchlist preferences

Hello In our molecular biology class one of the tasks is to check the box associated with the following item "✓ Add pages and files I move to my watchlist". I am not seeing this option on the watchlist preferences page. Can you tell me what Im doing wrong?? Jbaradei (talk) 22:04, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

I'm sorry, I'm not sure. I just checked again, and I see it. Did you click "My preferences", and then the "Watchlist" tab in the list of tabs under the "My preferences" heading? Did you see the other two options, "Add pages and files I edit to my watchlist" and "Add pages I create and files I upload to my watchlist"? If you see those two, but not the one in the middle, then I am really stumped. Let me know if that's the case, and I'll try to investigate further. Klortho (talk) 01:06, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
I do see the other two options, they are the only two options available. Based on a discussion thread on my classes messageboard a couple people are having this problem. One person claimed he didnt have this third option, then later said it "popped up" and he was able to click on it. Jbaradei (talk) 01:15, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
Ok it just "showed up" :). It must not be available until someone replies to a message you send. Jbaradei (talk) 01:19, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
Glad to hear it! Klortho (talk) 01:21, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi Chris!

My name is Aslaa. I am currently enrolled in Professor Ogg's Molecular Biology Section 83 course. I just started with my Wikipedia project and am learning my way through editing. I hope to get some more tips from you. Aahmed25 (talk) 16:45, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Aslaa, nice to meet you! Don't hesitate to ask me any questions that might come up. I hope you enjoy editing Wikipedia! Klortho (talk) 17:11, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Hello Chris!

Hi Chris,

This is my first time as a Wikipedia user. I'm slowly learning the wiki language. I look forward to this semester long project! MHN2785 (talk) 23:22, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the introduction. The wiki language is a little bit of a drag, unfortunately. The Wikimedia foundation is working very hard to come up with a wysiwyg editor, but it is still a ways off. Hope you enjoy the project! Klortho (talk) 23:46, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Hello Klortho

Hello this is Derrick. I like your page. Dgambrah (talk) 01:12, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Derrick, thank you for the compliment. Klortho (talk) 01:14, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi Klortho

Do you by any chance know why I'm not getting this option "✓ Add pages and files I move to my watchlist", under my preferences - watchlist option. Thanks for your help. Dgambrah (talk) 01:58, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Derrick. I do not know, but you aren't the first one to have noticed this problem. I wouldn't worry about it, since you won't be moving any pages or files for the foreseeable future, and certainly not as part of this course. I'll put a note on the course page about this. Klortho (talk) 02:44, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Introduction

Hello there Klortho. I am part of Prof Ogg's Molecular Biology class! So far I have learned a lot on how to edit Wikipedia. It is certainly not as easy as one would think but all the tutorials are definitely helping me along. By the way, nice talk page. I see a lot of work has been put into it. Myaworsk (talk) 13:54, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Michelle, thanks for the introduction, and the compliment. But, did you mean my "talk page" (which is this page) or my user page? I can't say I've put any work into this talk page -- it's an organic kind of thing. I did spend some time on my user page, though. If I see something I really like on somebody else's, then I steal it. It's a nice way to learn what is possible on Wikipedia pages (more than you'd think!). Cheers! Klortho (talk) 17:31, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Rex, thanks for the introduction. Nice to meet you too, and looking forward to working with you! Klortho (talk) 01:24, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Intro

Hi, Chris! Thank you for the welcome to Wikipedia! I have never done any editing on Wikipedia before this Molecular Biology course, so I have already learned a lot about it these first few weeks. Lamcmaho (talk) 23:31, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Lauren, nice to meet you! I hope you enjoy the Wikipedia experience. It can be a lot of fun! Klortho (talk) 01:25, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Introductions

Hi Chris,

I am Rubayath from Prof. Ogg's Molecular Biology class. Your help is going to be really "helpful" here since I was so unaware that the 'behind-the-scenes' of Wikipedia can be a little tricky! So Thanks in advance and looking forward to learn alot of new Wikipedia stuff! Rmohsen1 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 01:20, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Rubayath, nice to meet you! I'm glad you are enthusiastic. I have to ask you a question. When you left the above comment, did you sign it with four tildes (~~~~) or use some other means? I'm confused that a bot came along and indicated the date -- usually that doesn't happen. Klortho (talk) 01:34, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
I think I had Rmohsen1 (talk) before but I remember editing it, so maybe the edit was not saved then. Rmohsen1 (talk) 05:11, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
Okay, no problem. Don't forget to always indent each new comment in a talk-page thread one more than the comment above it. The comment you just left here is at the same indent level as mine -- meaning, only one ":" at the beginning of the line. You should have put two colons, "::". Klortho (talk) 12:21, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi Klortho!

Hi Klortho! This is Shivani from Dr. Ogg's Molecular Biology Class. Till now I have always learned a lot from wikipedia articles and now I'm really amazed learning what goes behind the scenes here. Looking froward to learn a lot from you and the class. Have a wonderful time! --Sgarg9 (talk) 02:23, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi Shivani, and thanks for the greeting! Klortho (talk) 03:15, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
Hi Klortho!
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll fix it. Actually I'm having problem in replying to :messages send to me. I hope I'm doing it right here. Is it that I have to go to the :person(who send me the message) talk page and then edit the message in order to reply. :Please let me know if I'm doing anything wrong.
Thanks.--Sgarg9 (talk) 03:23, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
oops I made a mistake with the indentation again. I hope it's right now.--Sgarg9 (talk) 03:35, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
Hi Klortho! I'm still having problem replying to Hanna(Jbaradei) as I cannot see the thread to reply on his talk page. There are only two messages showing up on his talk page and it's not what I have to reply to. Please help.--Sgarg9 (talk) 03:42, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
I'm assuming you're talking about the request I made here, right? That's on your talk page. I was just talking about the message that you had left immediately above my message, that starts out "Hi Hanna, Thanks for the greetings ...". If you look at it, you can see that "Hi Hanna" is indented, but "Thanks for the greetings" is not. I was just asking you to fix that. You can fix it by clicking "edit", and then making sure there's a colon in front of every line of that greeting. So, I'm not asking you to add a new comment -- just to fix the one that you made before. Klortho (talk) 04:04, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Hey Klortho!

My name is Rachael Meskowitz I am in Dr. Oggs Molecular Biology class... what a suprise! I am trying to get this whole editing Wikipedia thing down. I think I am SLOWLY gradping it. I may come to you rather soon with questions. Thank you so much!!! Hi Rachael, nice to meet you! How do you pronounce your first name? Is it like "Rachel", or something else? I'm trying to figure out how your signature got messed up. I see that you forgot to sign your note the first time, and then tried twice to fix it. Did you use four tildes (~~~~)? It's still not right, because there are three copies, and none of them have links to your user or talk pages, which is strange. It's not a big deal, but it would be nice to figure it out. Klortho (talk) 12:42, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
Hi Klortho- Yes my name is pronounced "rachel" I just spell it the "right" way haha. Yes I forgot the first time and tried to fit it... but obviously it did not work.. I used the 4 tildes. Let me try this again I'll try it different ways.

So I just tried it 3 different ways and it is still not working. Is this something wrong that I am doing or is it just not working for me? I am pretty good with technology but this editing wikipedia thing feels like it is out of my league. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rmeskowitz22 (talkcontribs) 12:55, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
Hi, Rachael. The only thing I can think of is that maybe in your user preferences, you have accidentally overridden the default signature. Go to Special:Preferences and check the "Signature" area. The text box there should be empty, which will cause the system default signature to be used. Klortho (talk) 13:07, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
Ok let try this again. I did have something in the signature box.

Rmeskowitz22 13:12, 28 September 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rmeskowitz22 (talkcontribs)

Thank you!!

Thank you for all your help in figuring out my signature! Rmeskowitz22 (talk) 13:30, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

No problem! Thanks for your patience. I think we uncovered a bug in the MediaWiki software -- it shouldn't get confused just because you had the checkbox checked. Klortho (talk) 14:21, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Molecular Bio Wiki help question

Hi Klortho. I'm having an issue receiving email notifications and wondered what I should do. I am in Dr. Ogg's Molecular Bio class (Section 83). For the class, I have been assigned to Group 83F. On the Group 83F Talk page, I added a couple of "test" comments, however I did not receive email notifications. I double checked my Preferences and it looks like I should receive an email for anything edited for any page in my Watchlist...whether it's from me or anyone else. Do you have any advice? I would greatly appreciate any help! Thanks! Rexsmiley (talk) 21:42, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Rex. That's not quite right. You won't get email notifications for your own edits. I will make an edit there right now, and please check to see if you get an email notification for that. If not, then please email me directly at voldrani (at) gmail.com, and we'll get this sorted. Klortho (talk) 22:47, 10 October 2012 (UTC)
Hello again. I guess I was confused in thinking that I would receive email for my own edits too. Sorry about that! I did receive email notifications for this posting of yours, along with those that you posted to my talk pages. It looks like everything is working great! Thank you very much for your help! Rexsmiley (talk) 14:06, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

IP address were 4 tildes belong

Chris,

I was adding a message to my groups project talk page and when I went to click the save page button I noticed that were I placed my 4 tildes was an IP address and not my name. Is there anyway to edit it so that my name is displayed? I realized that I was logged out of my account, which I believe is why there is a IP address instead of my name. Any help you may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated. Hope all is well.

Makselrod (talk) 05:56, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

Since part of your grade depends on these contributions, what I would do is to replace the ip-address signature with a prominent note that the previous edit was actually yours, and then use the four tildes again. What you did is fine, too, but there's no reason to leave the "ip-address-signature" there. Oh, and make sure you get in the habit of hitting the "Show Preview" button before "Save", whenever you make an edit -- then this would not have happened. Klortho (talk) 11:53, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

New section on our group project page

Hi Klortho, It looks like I don't see a new section tab among the tabs located at the top of our group's project page, Our group's project page. Maybe this is from my end, any reason why? Thanks. Dgambrah (talk) 02:57, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

The new section link only appears on talk pages. To start a new section in a project page, or an article page, just start it with a header line (e.g. "== New section =="). Klortho (talk) 15:40, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

Merging Articles, Table Copyrights

Hi Chris! I'm in Dr. Ogg's 83B group and I have two questions for you, if you don't mind.

  1. My group is working on Nucleotide excision repair (NER), and one of our sections has its own page: transcription-coupled repair (TCR). Should we discuss potentially merging TCR with NER on the TCR or NER talk page?
  2. Are tables from papers considered text that just need appropriate citations, or images with copyright issues?

Thanks for your help so far! Db4an (talk) 09:04, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

For the merging question, see w:Merging. The nutshell version is, you should probably start a discussion about it on the NER talk page, and "tag" the TCR page with the {{Merge}} template. As far as copying tables -- I would avoid copying them verbatim. My understanding is that data is not copyrightable, but of course there is a fine line sometimes between data and text/presentation. So you can use the data from a table, but try to use your own "presentation" -- does that make sense? Klortho (talk) 10:57, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
Completely makes sense to me; thanks! Db4an (talk) 11:57, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
I probably should have said "facts", rather than "data". This area is a bit murky to me, too. Nevertheless, I'd say as long as you use your own design/presentation, you should be okay. Klortho (talk) 15:10, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
I definitely see what you're saying. The table I'm looking at is like a review table: it has proteins+ relevant information and the papers the information came from, but the authors did not generate the data for the table. I think we might end up using the listed references to generate a new table, and hopefully that should put us in the clear. Db4an (talk) 19:22, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

Unsolicted Edits to Articles

Hi Chris, I noticed today that someone outside of our group rewrote the opening paragraph of our article DNA Polymerase. In addition, he provided some nice feedback on the talk page. Should we just roll with the changes and carry on? Aehall47 (talk) 16:06, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

This is definitely the kind of thing you can expect on Wikipedia! What you should do depends on whether or not you like his edits. If you don't like them at all, you can simply revert them, but that's considered kind-of rude. Alternatively, if you have particular things about his changes you want to discuss, you could open up a new section on the talk page.
My opinion is that, overall, his paragraph is an improvement. But he did remove some stuff from your write-up that I think was good -- "This process forms a new DNA strand complementary to the template strand and identical to the template's original partner strand", for example. I'd suggest you "roll with the changes", rather than revert. You could, for example, add a second paragraph to the introduction, and add some of the content back in that he removed. But, it's entirely up to you! Klortho (talk) 16:28, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

Spring 2013

Hey Chris,

So I've noticed that we're both in the same BFX program. I've enrolled in BioPerl for next semester and I'm curious to know if you've already taken the course. If you have, how was it? ShanSabri (talk) 17:34, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

I am in waitlist position 2; hope to see you there! It should be fun. Klortho (talk) 18:38, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
Awesome! Sounds it sounds like a fun course. Hope to see you there! ShanSabri (talk) 18:41, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

Thanks!

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your guidance on the NER article! Carl.d.martin (talk) 01:43, 18 November 2012 (UTC)

section on NER

Hello,

There is an oversimplification brewing in your layout on NER, namely the notion that dual incision is characteristic of NER. Mismatch Repair, a second major subpathway of NER, proceeds via a single incision step rather than a double incision step.

best regards,

Greetings from WikiProject Open Access

Hi Chris, here is what I have just been posting to members of the WikiProject.

SEM of bacteriophages.

it is now one year since WikiProject Open Access was started by User:Bluerasberry on January 10, 2012. Since then, the project has advanced modestly, but we have not interacted much. For the coming year, we certainly want to improve on that.

We also plan to overhaul the project pages to make them more conducive to collaboration, and we are pondering the idea of expanding the concept of a WikiProject Open Access to projects other than the English Wikipedia, e.g. to other languages or to Wikimedia Commons. You are warmly invited to add your voice to all that. We would also appreciate if you would share some of your OA-related activities by way of our news ticker or via the monthly Open Access report that is part of the GLAM newsletter (to which you can subscribe here), or as you see fit otherwise.

As a visual token of the anniversary, I am adding today's Open Access File of the Day. Feel free to nominate files yourself. As of today, commons:Category:Open access (publishing) contains more than 15,000 files, of which about 2/3 are video and sound files uploaded by the Open Access Media Importer.

Thanks for being part of the project, and looking forward to more interaction.

With a smile, -- Daniel Mietchen - WiR/OS (talk) 00:03, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, Daniel! I like this news ticker page quite a lot and have added it to my watchlist. I'll try to get more involved in the open access project. Klortho (talk) 04:01, 14 January 2013 (UTC)
