Your edit summary at Danny Makkelie ("See internet for media article") shows a misunderstanding of how Wikipedia works. Please read Wikipedia:Verifiability before you make any further changes. Robby.is.on (talk) 19:47, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
Your edits suggest you have a connection to Danny Makkelie. Do you know them personally or professionally? Robby.is.on (talk) 19:48, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
- Are you against Makkelie? Are you writing about every referee decisions that can be discussed? Stay to the facts. UEFA has said his decision was correct, so your text is not for Wikipedia and inflammatory. Kleikema (talk) 00:32, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
Are you against Makkelie?
No, I go by Wikipedia:Verifiability. If independent and reliable sources state he made a mistake, we reflect that.UEFA has said his decision was correct
You can cite UEFA to balance the criticism but statements from UEFA do not carry more weight than independent and reliable sources such as Marca (newspaper) and The New Indian Express. See WP:DUE. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 09:56, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
- I've restored the criticism section. It is WP:DUE as the penalty decision received widespread attention during the tournament. I replaced references from the less reliable Daily Mirror by a reference from Reuters.
- I was unable to find articles on the UEFA statement. You are welcome to add them.
- If you take issue with the criticism section, you should start a discussion at the Talk page of the Makkelie article: Talk:Danny Makkelie. In the meantime, per WP:BRD you should avoid edit-warring or you'll risk getting blocked from editing. Robby.is.on (talk) 10:11, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
UEFA presented clear footages of the foul committed which wasn’t shown on TV. Together with the VAR output. Same happened with Kuipers and his corner kick with goal scored in the QF. On TV they showed the wrong angle, later after the game the correct footage was shown by a journalist who was filming in the stadium.
Below the statement of UEFA Chief of Refereeing which you can find in the newspapers too.
The head of referees at Euro 2020 has defended Danny Makkelie for awarding Raheem Sterling a penalty in England’s semi-final. Roberto Rosetti backed the call by showing footage and slides and explaining why VAR had not corrected either. Rosetti, the Uefa referees’ committee chairman, asserted that there was no attempt by the defender to play the ball and showed a freeze frame of Mæhle’s leg clearly in contact with Sterling’s. “He [Makkelie]saw red defender No 5 –– he didn’t play the ball,” Rosetti said. “The right leg of the defender, Danny saw the contact against the right leg of the white [England] player. This is what the referee saw in the field of play and VAR confirmed the decision: the red 5 defender didn’t touch the ball. Rosetti also played audio of the conversation between Makkelie and the VAR officials, with the referee told that the “penalty is correct”. Kleikema (talk) 13:01, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
- I have added the statements from Roberto Rosetti and improved the wording to be more in line with WP:NPOV, replacing "an error" by "a decision" and "dubious penalty" by "contentious penalty". Robby.is.on (talk) 13:17, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
- You removed content explaining it was "offensive". That is not a valid reason. See WP:NOTCENSORED: "Wikipedia may contain content that some readers consider objectionable or offensive—even exceedingly so." Robby.is.on (talk) 13:37, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
What has the history of Sterling to do with this particular decision? So actually you are saying that every penalty he get should be wrong or every penalty that he get which can be discussed is a mistake of the referee? This adding about his diving is clearly offensive towards Makkelie. You should write this comment on the page of Sterling instead. This adding has no value regarding Makkelie. Kleikema (talk) 13:46, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
- That is an objection I can understand. Robby.is.on (talk) 14:53, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
