If my material was deleted, where did it go? Is there any way to retrieve it? I didn't save it anywhere else and I was proud of it. Was it too analytical? Is there somewhere else I should post it? KittyFantastico 04:13, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Was the entire article deleted, or merely a portoion of it? If the entire page was deleted, unfortunately there's not much you can do. Only admins can restore deleted pages. You could, however, bring it up in a deletion review if you think it was erroneously deleted. You could also ask the admin himself why the article was deleted. If the article was only edited to remove your work, however, previous versions are always saved. Can I ask what work you're referring to? - JNighthawk 04:25, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It was actually my first contribution, so I suppose I'm a little fuzzy on the details. I added a "symbolism" section to the article on the film "The Prestige". Only my section was deleted. I suppose I understand why it was deleted; I discussed reoccurring plot devices and symbols in what I thought was a frank and factual manner. I am learning that perhaps symbolism is not factual enough, as the message I got informing me of the deletion said I should read the Original Research section. Since only my work was deleted, I'm really hoping I could find it again so I can save it elsewhere. Serves me right for not saving it to my hard drive. Hello, Kitty! Looking at your contributions, I'd guess we're talking about your edit to The Prestige (film). It looks to me like you added a rather impressively large amount of personal analysis on the symbolism. While it looks like some very good work, Wikipedia has a policy against personal, or original research such as this. In order to improve the verifiability of our articles, we only allow information that can be attributed to a reliable third-party source, regardless of how good the work of some of our editors, such as yourself, may be.
Don't worry, though, it's not lost. Wikipedia's system keeps logs of all the edits made, including yours. If you'd like to see the work you put into that article again, all you have to do is click here. Link to full history of the article. I hope this has helped, but please let me know if you need anything else. :-D Hersfold (talk|work) 04:34, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. - Oops, you already figured most of that out. Sorry, the servers messed up on me and I got hit with an edit conflict. Anyway, the answer to your question is in there. Hersfold (talk|work) 04:36, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I suppose I'll have to stick to less esoteric contributions from now on. Lesson learned, and thank you for the compliments. KittyFantastico 04:55, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Anytime, glad I could help. Good night! Hersfold (talk|work) 04:58, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
