I am new

[edit]

Please, if anyone out there would like to take me under their wing, it would be very much appreciated. My teacher recommended becoming a member on this site, because she said it was very good and it has good information. One thing I would like to do is begin an article, though I don't know what about. Could anyone help me, anyone at all? ♥Kittie Cat Girl (talk) 23:07, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Kittie Cat Girl

[edit]

Thank you for your message. You asked "why is your name a number?", well I just have not registered as a Wikipedia user yet. The number is my (or rather my computers' ) IP(Internet protocol) Address. This tells the Internet where to send information intended for me. It identifies me much the same as a username. Any unregistered editor appears as their IP 'number'. Many IP addresses change whenever you log onto the internet. Mine, for reasons I am not sure about, has stayed the same for over 8 1/2 months! I will probably register(eventually) as you can see from the message just above yours on my talk page from another user, many friendly editors are 'subtly' encouraging me to do so.

I hope you enjoy editing Wikipedia. Don't be too worried about starting new articles (I have not done so, though I understand you have!). There are many articles that are very short and need to be expanded. That is a good way to practice and get used to the way it all works here. I hope the links in the 'Welcome' notice help, Best Wishes, --220.101.28.25 (talk) 21:32, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
