[edit]Edit summaries
[edit]Hi there! Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.
When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:
Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)
I noticed your recent edit to Bajrangi Bhaijaan does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.
Edit summary content is visible in:
- User contributions
- Recent changes
- Watchlists
- Revision differences
- IRC channels
- Related changes
- New pages list and
- Article editing history
Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. Thanks! 220 of Borg 05:35, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
Adding incorrect information
[edit] Hello, I'm 220 of Borg. Your edit to the page Jurassic World at 07:12, on 16 June 2015 appears to have added incorrect information, but another editor reverted it. If you believe the information was correct, please cite a reliable source or discuss your change on the article's talk page. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page.
• You changed the gross from $524.1 to 775.1 million, without saying why, and contrary to the source. The specific edit is here. Your edit was quickly reverted by another editor. 220 of Borg 05:45, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
I did that right after 5 days the films gross was reached near 700 million dollars and if you think that I made wrong edit. Then I am sorry. I'll be careful in future. Thanks for noticing.Kisanrout3 (talk) 06:07, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
Above reply copied from my talk page. 220 of Borg 11:49, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you for your reply. I am not trying to be mean to you, just help you to follow normal Wikipedia(WP) procedures. like WP:VERIFY. If you had a reliable source, that said the gross had increased greatly, edited the figure, added the new source and left an edit summary, i.e. "updating gross per latest source" then you would be 'right'.
- But:
- you changed the figure, adding about 44% ($231 million to it)
- you did not change the source for a new one, or indicate that the source had changed ie. a new access date,
- no edit summary (or talk-page comment) to explain.
- Unfortunately there is quite a lot of WP:Vandalism on WP and changing figures like that, without sourcing, are a classic form of vandalism. Another is saying a person has died, when they have not, like here. Rather embarrassing if a major public figures is involved, as has happened. That is why we question them when figures are changed without verifiability. This would be more so with a newish editor like yourself. Editors are expected to assume good faith (WP:AGF), on your part, but still query your edit.
- PS: You could have answered my comment on your talk-page, (rather than mine) and placed a
{{reply|220 of Borg}}
template at the start, which would have notified me of your reply. It helps to keep the discussion in one place. I think most editors do that. - • Sorry for taking so long to answer, I started almost immediately you posted, but got 'distracted' by several other issues. 220 of Borg 11:49, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
Other edits
[edit]That said, I have to also query your next two edits (after your reply to me) seen here, adding a budget of 150 Crore to Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, and here adding information about 2 movie projects to . Both seemed to be un-sourced. Remember, even if you are certain the information is true and correct, you need to be able to back them up with a reliable source. However, after a quick look around, I have fixed the movie link/s you added that were not working on Shroff's page. Even so, a source should still be provided as another WP page is not considered a reliable source. The movie page budget figure also needs a source. 220 of Borg 11:49, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
- Tiger Shroff & Prem Ratan Dhan Payo etc
- Thank you sir for re editing the tiger shroff page. I'm really thankful to you. And a source told me that the budget of prem ratan dhan pao is 150 crore. That's why i edited that. Btw thanks again sir and keep an eye on me sir if i do any mistake immediately report me sorry I'll make it correct. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kisanrout3 (talk • contribs) 18:22, 26 July 2015
Above reply copied from my talk page, & sub heading addded. 220 of Borg 07:24, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
- Again, it is easier if you reply on this page, not my talk-page, to keep the discussion in one place.
- If you are discussing particular page/s you should link to the page/s, just in general, I knew which page were under discussion, but other editors might reply on my behalf, and not be aware.
- Note that you have misspelled the movie's page as "prem ratan dhan pao", not "Prem Ratan Dhan Pa[y]o" [error bracketed]
- Also note that, especially if linking, the page needs to be spelled correctly, including capitalisation Prem Ratan Dhan Payo works not Prem Ratan Dhan Pao, which is 'Red linked', unless there is a redirect of that exact name.
- • I fixed your link to Flying jat (2016), which is incorrect, simply Flying Jat (no date) is correct, see here.
- You said "... a source told me that the budget ... is 150 crore." But you didn't add the source to the page, which you need to do in future at the time of the edit. If you know what it is, please add it to the page.
- At the very least, right after the gross figure insert:
- 150 crore<ref>Insert internet address here</ref>
- as an absolute minimum reference, known as a 'bare URL'. Also adding the title, name of source, ie XYZ Newspaper, author, date of publication, and date of access are strongly recommended, See also Citation tools.
- • I'll keep an eye on your edits, if I can, real life calls me away and I should be doing other 'real' things right now! If you go slowly, look at what other experienced editors do normally, and read the WP guidelines and help pages when needed, you should be OK, That is how I learned, plus a lot of experience, and some common sense!
- • No need to call me "Sir". '220' or even 'Borg' is fine. ('Sir' makes me feel old(er) too!) Regards, 220 of Borg 07:24, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
