Source on Unreleased Songs
[edit]Hey, Josh. Hope you're doing fine. If you can post a source for the info you added about the "unreleased songs" of Petra, you can post it. I've been working on the article for a while now, so any help with it is more than welcome. Thief12 22:18, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply. I'll check those sources and post the appropriate links. Perhaps tomorrow. BTW, since I assume you have way more knowledge of Petra than I do, feel free to check any stuff that might be written in the article that could be incorrect. One of the parts I'd like to work with more is the Members list. I'm sure there are some missing, and some that might be cut from the list (for example, someone added Greg Ruup and he was just a touring musician, stuff like that) so if you have any info about Mike Brandenstein, the blond drummer that played during the first J&H shows (Johnson? or something), Steve McElyea, or any other obscure band member... from the late 70s, early 80s, please share. Thanks. Thief12 04:35, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
Re: Christian music
[edit]Hi Josh. I thought Thief was you, seeing that he started the Petra article, however, he kindly pointed out that you exist here. :) Anyways, I've just started the Christian music portal and was wondering two things:
- Firstly, if you could upload some good-quality photos of Petra onto Wikipedia. We require completely-free images to be shown for the Selected Picture section of the portal. I'm quite unable to find completely-free images and your name popped into my head. :)
- Second, since you've a vast knowledge of Christian music (Petra included), was wondering whether you could help us out with the portal. Any ideas/suggestions/comments/expansion of articles within the portal's scope and reach would be much appreciated, believe me.
That'll be all for now, I guess. Do reply when you have the time. Thanks and happy Wiki-ing!!! aJCfreak yAk 11:27, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
Petra picture
[edit]Hey, Josh. Hope all is well with you. Just wondering if you could work out the uploading of any pic you have of Petra for the article. We're looking forward to getting the article to GA status, and possibly FA, but with a copyrighted pic in the infobox, that won't be able. If you have any pic of yours you'd like to contribute, feel free to upload it. Thanks. Thief12 02:07, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- Same request as above... was beaten to it. :) aJCfreak yAk 17:24, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Re: Petra (band)
[edit]Hello again, Josh. I've started a discussion at Talk:Petra (band)#The band - it or they ? to gain consensus on whether the band should be referred to as it or they. I know that you previously voted for the band to be called it with the plural form being used to refer to the band members. I felt that there could be a lot of trouble and confusion (as the article itself is contradictory) and hence, restarted the discussion looking for consensus. Please do join in, if you have the time. aJCfreak yAk 22:22, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for File:Falcons eye.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Falcons eye.gif. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 13:26, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
Hey Josh, This is Ben Swofford I used to work with Yoli at the library, and at the UM-St. Louis newspaper. When I notice it was you that made some edits to the Ferguson library page that I created (I am Brps311) I had to stop by and say HI. Great catch on inserting "Municipal" do not know how I missed that. Since you probably know this stuff better than I do, is there some way to change the page name once created, it still comes up without the Municipal, even though you made that edit. (Change got made, thanks!) I had to create that page for a Masters in Library Science class I am taking on Internet Research. Part of the Wikipedia week assignment. Gotta say it is kinda addicting once you start realizing the power you have to create the truth. Hope you and the family are great, see you on Facebook! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.158.60.205 (talk) 22:22, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
Ben, good to hear from you. Someone else has fixed the problem of the page title, so no worries there.
Wikipedia is pretty cool overall, but the politics of it bothers me sometimes. The notion that people and things must be "notable" in order to be included in the self-purported "sum of all human knowledge" really, really bugs me.

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference
[edit]Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.
On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true
. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false
in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.
For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.
Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 20:27, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
A belated welcome!
[edit]Here's wishing you a belated welcome to Wikipedia, Kirkman. I see that you've already been around a while and wanted to thank you for your contributions. Though you seem to have been successful in finding your way around, you may benefit from following some of the links below, which help editors get the most out of Wikipedia:
- Introduction
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Help pages
- How to write a great article
Also, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post.
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page, consult Wikipedia:Questions, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there.
Again, welcome! -- Trevj (talk) 06:43, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
Non-free rationale for File:Sre.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Sre.gif. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 12:07, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, this is all pretty stupid. I already had some of that information on the image. However, to appease the ridiculous Wikipedia bureaucracy, I have added the boilerplate rationale. Kirkman (talk) 00:08, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
You're invited to Wikipedia Takes St. Louis!
[edit]Dust off your Polaroid camera and pack your best lenses. The first-ever Wikipedia Takes St. Louis photo hunt kicks off Sat, Sept. 15, at 12:30pm in downtown St. Louis. Tour the streets of the Rome of the West with other Wikipedians and even learn a little St. Louis history. This event is a fun and collaborative way to enhance St. Louis articles with visual content. Novice photographers welcome! Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 01:48, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
The article Space Empire Elite has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- I love BBS history, but this game game does not meet WP:N criteria. It doesn't have significant coverage in reliable sources independent of the subject.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. czar · · 06:33, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

BBS door games
[edit]Since BBS door games as a topic is notable, though the games individually lack notability, do you think it would make sense to move the popular BBS door games into a section within BBS door? czar · · 06:33, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, I couldn't disagree more. They are an important part of technology history, involving some significant figures like Jon Radoff. I'd like to improve the articles but have been pressed for time recently. What I can say is that this field is under-researched right now. When you see all the research coming out now about the history of video games ("Racing the Beam," etc), it is only a matter of a time before similar articles and books will be available on door games. Deleting these articles would be premature and wrong. Kirkman (talk) 05:15, 19 October 2012 (UTC)
- I have a personal interest in retrogaming, and I understand your POV, but I approached you about your view on combining these articles into a single door games article (notable as a group/genre/era) because otherwise they will eventually be lost for their individual non-notability. Do you have any thoughts on that? czar · · 06:11, 19 October 2012 (UTC)
- I fundamentally disagree with your premise. Games like Space Empire Elite, SRE, and BRE pioneered strategy games concepts and were precursors to MMOGs. They deserve their own articles and are notable. Kirkman (talk) 18:20, 19 October 2012 (UTC)
- If they are notable, can you produce non-self-published (independent) sources? Your book reference on SRE looks like the right direction, but almost all of the other references come from self-published sources (not credible for Wikipedia's purposes). czar · · 18:32, 19 October 2012 (UTC)
Nomination of Space Empire Elite for deletion
[edit]A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Space Empire Elite is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
