Ethiopian Scout Article

Well, I did what I think is right with the Ethiopia Scout Association article. I will be happy to help anytime. Elfalem 01:38, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Graphic Lab/Images to improve

Do not use Fair use images on that page. Fair use images can only be used in the mainspace. 22:04, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Since you seem to be keeping your eye on the related articles, can you have a look here about the naming convention? Thanks, Blnguyen (bananabucket) 01:38, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Irancrudescan.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Irancrudescan.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 02:18, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Deletion of Cuban Articles

Sahraoui Scout Association

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Sahraoui Scout Association, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Good question I have no idea. He also went onto Commons and caused a stir with unilateral and politically-controversial moves. Translating

For the closest definition I would like to say....

  1. When the war came, be ready.
  2. You fight escaping for deadth (that is very impossible)
That's very hard to defined because the writing is too illigeble. So, I can help only this. But all 2 things were not possible. First choice that, you know the different between Thai and Laos. It's very hard to understand for foreigns. So I'll say overall that the grammar is wrong. It's definitely wrong but if it in Thai it could have meaning.
The second choice was very impossible. But it might be. But my mind 87%, don't trust this choice. That's all I can help you. But, remember. One day I meet Laos I'll do it for you, one day.
I want many friends. Can you find one for me? I can speak German, too.--Passawuth 15:56, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

[Boy Scouts of America, Revision as of 14:34, 7 March 2006]

Caught a stolen image from my website OA Section List. Earlier last year, someone edited out all of the identifying information, including my copyright notice, and I'm assuming posted it somewhere publicly available.

As far as I'm concerned, you had no idea when you uploaded it. I'm just curious where you found it, but I'm sure that the trail's gone cold by now.

I sent an email to info-en-c@wikimedia.org, requesting their action and explaining that I'm not blaming you, I just want them to take it down. I made the mistake of deleting it on my own.

Thanks for your understanding, YIS Robhmac

Hey, they yanked it (quickly, too!). Let me know IMMEDIATELY if you get any flack on this and I'll back you up. I just wanted it gone. Again, don't sweat it. Robhmac 19:28, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Summary of Scouting in Laos Translation

Today, I have met Laos. So I asked her to translate it. The final result is that the meaning is " Be ready". And this is the definite meaning I could translate.--Passawuth 12:01, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

TfD as image deletion rationale

The licensing template the image used was debated, and the result of the debate was to delete the template. The discussion also indicated that images tagged with the licensing template being discussed would be suitable canidates for speedy deletion (one contributor to the deletion discussion even criticized the template as redundant to CSD I3) or at the very least, IfD. Since the image was more than 7 days old, and improperly licensed, I skipped those steps and deleted the image as being in violation of our image policies, as discussed in the TfD. Sorry if that's a bit circuitous, but when writing deletion summaries, one must be brief, sometimes cryptically so. Sorry if this has caused any inconvenience. RyanGerbil10(C-Town) 04:28, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Argh. It seems like I can't win lately, either I've not properly cleaned up after a template deletion, or I've been overzealous :) . I suppose in a perfect world I could leave a note on every image's uploader's talk page, the image talk page, and the image page, and then watch all of these for a week, but I haven't (who would) the time or energy to do these things. Feel free to replace the image, I just needed to get the template deleted. I used to just remove image tags, and leave the images for others, but 99% of the time they would all be deleted and the hours I spent in front of the computer screen removing tags would go to waste, so now I just wholesale delete images when their templates are declared invalid and work with any editors who cry foul. It's imperfect, but it's actually less time consuming and doesn't seem to have measurably different results. RyanGerbil10(C-Town) 04:39, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Tok Pisin

Hi, just saw your tagging of Girl Guides Association of Papua New Guinea and The Scout Association of Papua New Guinea as lacking Tok Pisin name or text... can you clarify? What Tok Pisin do they require? Wantok (toktok) 05:38, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Chris, I'm so very sorry that they have already put the name of it in Thai already. But, that's ok 'cas I don't know either (It's quite different meaning). But please how I can use User Script because I have used in Thai before but don't in English of course. What code do I need to copy in my monobook page ( DON'T tell me to read that. I've read it million but I still can't understand. Thank you.--Passawuth 16:44, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:U_Ba_Htay.gif

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:U_Ba_Htay.gif. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 23:08, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Girlguiding-British Guides in Foreign Countries / Girlguiding BGIFC

Hi. I've made a proposal to move Girlguiding-British Guides in Foreign Countries, which will effectively undo a rename you made back in June. My reason is explained on the article's talk page. I'm sorry to have to undo your work and I thought the least I could do was let you know what was being proposed. Kingbird 00:54, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Turkish Scouting

Hi, thanks for your kind words. I just did a quick fix and I'm planning to improve the history section further with help from this wonderful presentation I've found on their website: [5]. I'll be happy to help as much as I can and answer any questions you might have. As a note, I was a boy scout myself when I was in primary school. I should thank you for taking care of the article. Ben size teşekkür ederim! Atilim Gunes Baydin 23:05, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Also, please accept my most sincere condolences on the loss of Sheri Lynn. It is very kind of you to share your story and I'm very happy to know her through your page. Atilim Gunes Baydin 23:12, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

I'll try my best. Both countries are on the list of participants. As of last tuesday 150 of the 155 (+ 4 associate) members are listed - but this may be subject to changes. Missing visa etc can get in the way; when I was at the World Scout Moot 1996, the delegation of Yugoslavia was not allowed to enter Sweden until the fifth or sixth day of the Moot. --jergen 08:23, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

  • Bahrain
  • Burkina Faso
  • Dominica
  • Haiti
  • Mauritania
  • Niger
  • Rwanda
  • Saint Lucia
  • Yemen
The only non-member with an official delegation is Kazakhstan. --jergen 08:34, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Granada Undivided High School, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. --ROGER TALK 22:38, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Granada Undivided High School

This is a fascinating little school and I hope to be adding more about the school's interaction with the internment camp, which I think is the most fascinating aspect. It doesn't help that the school doesn't seem to have a website, which usually is a great starting point for further research in demonstrating notability. I will be archiving shortly, I promise. Alansohn 03:05, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

I don't know how one does it, but I want to add "this debate had been added to the school deletion debate list..." for Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Celeryville Christian School. I'm not so much interested in the school as that the tagger seems to be going after schools. How may I add that? Chris 04:34, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Portal:Language

Hi, friend! I'm now busying. So I hardly edit it, this will take about 3 weeks 'til my work is finish. I ask you to visit our Portal:Language. I am doing the project there ,too. I still using JavaScript to make it easier and faster about to put on the template that says " This article is in the Portal:Language. You can help improve it by... ". I ask you to help me about this project. We are now very busying about improving all the article and make counter-vandalism now. You won't know it but we are really busy and there are such a fuss the article could done to us. I ask you please to make links of Portal:Language in other languages to Portal:Language in Thai Wikipedia that they are not appear. We've done this to increase other languages box in the left menu. ( 'cos that is one of the our main project we are doing) I don't have time so much because I'm still have a plenty of works to do and they are require to send it in within this several days. Thank you for you helping. I must go. --Passawuth 13:34, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Sahraoui Scout Association

Hi Chris, yes, I do see what you're trying to do. The main problem right now is that the article isn't really all about the "Sahraoui Scout Association." Rather, it's about all of the various organizations within the Western Sahara area — not to mention, the bullet point about the "Sahraoui Scout Association" is the only one that isn't followed with an online source. So, I think that this page should redirect to Scouting in Western Sahara, not the other way around.

Now, everyone else's problem is that it is possible to just divide up the material here and merge it into Scouting articles in regard to Morocco and the SADR. I suppose it's possible to argue that this is an arbitrary distinction, like an article about Scouting in the Windsor-Detroit area or something. The problem with that argument, though, is that it's simply not that arbitrary.

This is a special situation. International Scouting bodies clearly make a distinction between Morocco and Western Sahara and between the SADR (if they recognize it at all) and the Western Sahara. So there's something to be said about Scouting in this area. There's certainly going to be quite a bit overlap with the other two articles, but I don't see it as a reason to just get rid of it. In addition, this clearly isn't a national-level article anymore, but there's no reason to get rid of an article because its a sub-article of another. Again, there's nothing really to compare this too, but as a weak comparison, we wouldn't merge all of our individual district/council articles into an article about Scouting in the U.S.

All the voters' arguments, then, are really about getting rid of the article to avoid it from becoming a POV-pushing battlefield. Understandable -- look at their contributions; for some of them, almost all of their contributions have ended up becoming reverts and talk page comments. That's not really a valid argument, though. We don't get rid of articles on abortion and immigration simply because they're controversial.

In sum, the stuff here should either be redirected to Scouting in WS, or split up and merged into articles on Scouting in Morocco and the SADR. But, that's not to say there's anything wrong with a Scouting in WS article. It's clearly a special situation with things that can be said about it. — Rebelguys2 talk 23:56, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

I don't really see any opposition to the move itself, so I don't think it's necessary to wait for an uninvolved sysop to come by. I went ahead and made the move myself. As for Sahraoui Scout Association ... in all honestly, I don't really care what happens to it at this point. Since the main reference for that right now comes from the Canary Islands, and we have existing online references discussing Canary Island Scouts working with Morocco Scouts in Western Sahara, I think the best solution is a redirect to Scouting in Morocco. If the others really want to get rid of it, they can always take it to Redirects for Deletion and make a case there themselves, but it's so trivial and unnecessary at this point, I don't think we really need to waste our time on it. — Rebelguys2 talk 03:52, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:SAVoortrekkers.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:SAVoortrekkers.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia Talk 04:10, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. Videmus Omnia Talk 01:18, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:LaszlonagyU.jpg.

Thank you. Videmus Omnia Talk 01:18, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

No no not the Graphics Lab, just that request. See I had spent a while on an image for then an then they come back saying things like no thats just an SVG of the photo I gave you, I wanted something else... Anyway, I got fed up of that so I dropped out of it. I understand when I get something wrong, but if someone
1) Hasn't explained it well at all
2) And then comes back with a response like that, I just can't be bothered

Anyway I probably waisted about 5 minutes of your life reading this. Sorry...  :-) > Rugby471 talk

Laos Coat of Arms - Text

Chris, (Your request of July 1st) The text in the curved scroll is the official name of the country in lao language and script: ສາທາລະນະລັດ ປະຊາທິປະໄຕ ປະຊາຊົນລາວ = Sathalanalat Paxathipatai Paxaxon Lao = Lao People's Democratic Republic.

To the left of the scroll it says ສັນຕິພາບ ເອກະລາດ ປະຊາທິປະໄຕ and to the right: ເອກະພາບ ວັດທະນາຖາວອນ which together constitute the state’s motto "Peace, Independence, Democracy, Unity and Prosperity".

All of this, incidentally, is on the Wikipedia article on Laos.

Getting the commons version of GGGS deleted and reuploading didn't fix it, so I had to add a 2 to the name. I'll run AWB to fix all on wiki to point to it.Rlevse 10:03, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

I didn't know you already had an image on wiki with a "2". So the simplest thing to do was save it, delete the wiki 2 so the commons 2 will show through, and I"ll put your wiki 2 on commons as 3. So the old one with no number is now a 2 and the old 2 is now 3, both on commons.Rlevse 10:19, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Fair use disputed for Image:Belgiume.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Belgiume.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. Hello to you, and sorry to drop in like that..but at Wikipedia:pages needing translation into English we are having a bit of a problem (since 2005). In the article above, the scouting oath and scouting law needs translation from Georgian (I've seen you don't have that in your babel), but you are into scouting and into eastern Europe...so I thought I'd just ask you: is it true that it is the same as the English scouting oath and scouting law, as one of our users mentioned, or is it possible that it differs (even slightly)? Thanks in advance for your time. Cheers and happy editing. Lectonar 15:39, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Sorry to bother you again about this(taking a look at your wikistress-level), but I tried (in vain) to track down someone here to translate it for us, but the only ones available I wouldn't ask. Would you know someone who speaks Georgian and might be able to translate for us (I dont trust babelfish and the likes). Cheers. Lectonar 15:44, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

I was trying to figure out what was going on here, and I think I see what you were trying to do. If you intend to have the district article be the repository for information about non-notable schools (e.g. Mossy Oaks, and other elementary schools), you probably should have created the district article separately and then changed Mossy Oaks to a redirect. Leaving the AfD as is takes the risk that the district article will be deleted. You may want to consider withdrawing the nomination on the Mossy Oaks AfD and resting on the assumption that standalone school district articles have been recognized as inherently notable without the baggage of Mossy oaks hanging over the district article. i hope I am reading this situation correctly. Alansohn 01:39, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Hello Chris, I wholeheartedly agree with your comments regarding other articles on Wikipedia. We do have this contingent of editors who feel that trivia and popular culture of areas of major interest and value. Fancruft is the bane of a public encyclopedia.
I am not a great respecter of precedence; just because it has been done that way does not mean that we should keep repeating it. The logic of a school district being notable for its existence fails the notability test. I acknowledge that my position may have an exteme edge to it, but my main issue is uniqueness. When we have institutionalized repetition of groups, existence becomes less than notable. There must be a verifiable, third-party resource that defines notability to include what would otherwise be a social clone. Cheers. --Storm Rider (talk) 18:37, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I have undone the page move and created a fresh Beaufort County School District article. This is to avoid the AfD applying to the District; it will need a fresh AfD if anyone wants to delete it! Hi. (Wondering how you found me ;) ) It's pronounced Thayaar. It's nothing great - I really didn't know what it was in Tamil. However, I kinda figured that Thayaar must be it, cos in Hindi, it seems to be Taiyar. :) Lemme know if you need further help. Happy Wiki-ing!!! aJCfreak yAk 18:35, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Hiya. Terribly sorry - but me dunno any hindi. :) Don't start me off on another "Hindi is not the only official language of India" debates. ;) I'll try asking around. aJCfreak yAk 22:10, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Samoan Translation

Chris,

I'm sorry, but I only know the basics of Samoan (please and thank you, etc.) I have no idea how to say "Be Prepared" . I suggest you try www.samoaworld.com. They have a forum where you might be able to find a native speaker.

Sorry I can't be more help. Good luck with your editing.

Can you help render "Be Prepared", the Scout Motto, into Tetum, for that article? Thanks! Chris 06:40, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Sorry - I don't speak Tetum - just English (first language), Indonesian (thus a bit of Malay), German, and a smattering of Fijian. Why not try on the Tetum talk page? --Merbabu 11:01, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

hmm ... good question, i have no idea how to render the word "Scout" into Fijian, I have never had a conversation on on this topic, and I have never heard anyone speak about Scouting in Fijian.

as for "be prepared" it should either be "Tu Vakarau" or "Meda Tu Vakarau", and I'd probably lean towards the second choice. --Xorkl000 20:33, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Bula Chris good question as for "be prepared" a possible Translation is "Vaka Vakarau" but check this with other wikipedians from Fiji to help you get a more accurate translation I think I'll be leaning towards the above suggestions, as for the "Fiji Scouts Association" I will try ring them and ask for the correct term as I would have to find an equivalent for Scout, I will touch base shortly, Vinaka. Maikeli MB 02:44, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
Bula once again Chris the term most agreebale with some senior scouts whom I just discussed the issue with was for the Motto "be prepared always" would be "Tu Vakarau ena Vei Gauna" and for the "Fiji Scouts Association" would be "Nai Soqosoqo ni taba Gone e Viti" double check this with User:Xork1000 and a few other Fijian Wikipedians, I hope that helps, Vinaka, Maikeli MB 02:57, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
I think I'll refrain from weighing in here as I'm not qualified - I know nothing about scouting in Fiji or in any other country. "Tu vakaraua ena veigauna" is a good translation, probably better than my suggestion of "Meda tu vakarau" which is more like "We should be prepared"
My final point is that Nai Soqosoqo ni taba Gone e Viti back-translates as "Fiji Youth Association" which doesn't really specifically reference Scouting, but like I said I don't really know much about the topic and whether this name is the official Fijian name of the organisation --Xorkl000 08:37, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

The Scout Motto in Malagasy

Hey, I got your message and already made the changes to the relevant page. The page said "Vononina", which means "to prepare something"

The litteral translation of "Be Prepared" would be "Mivonóna", but a co-worker of mine has been a scout for a while (I was too, but for a short time) and he told me the correct renditiion was "Vonona hatrany hatrany" ("Always Prepared").

Greenland Scouting

Hello. I only very recently began to learn Greenlandic, and given the scarce resources on the language, my studies are very slow. While I am unable to translate into Greenlandic, you might check with another Wikipedian. You might also check on a Kalaallisut web forum, but given that it is one of the least-spoken languages on Earth, your results might be mixed. Best of luck -- AlistairJQ 00:34, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Re: "Hollow" in an image

I don't know of any image format that can do the sort of thing you describe, unfortunately. For creating international images (i.e. multi-language) the standard practice is to replace text with numbers, and display the text in a caption (see Image:Oligochaeta_anatomy.svg for an example]]), so it would look like 1= item a, 2= item b, etc.

The w3c's definition of SVG mentions the 'tref' element, which might work to make change-able text, but I don't understand the finer details of it, so I'm not completely sure it would work. Even if it did, it would have to work with MediaWiki as well, which is notoriously bad at rendering SVG.

I hope this helps. --Dave the Rave (DTR)talk 19:53, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Cypturapolitical.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Cypturapolitical.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Can you help render "Lesotho Scouts Association" and "Be Prepared", the Scout Motto, into Sotho? Thanks! Chris 04:27, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

A direct translation of "Be Prepared" into Sotho will be "Dula O Lokile". I live pretty far away from Swaziland and have no contact with their Scouts. So, whether or not they actually use this direct translation, would be utter guess work on my part. Hope this helped ! Regards : Sadness Sa 08:44, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Scout Motto in Burmese

Hi Chris, I haven't had a lot of luck with this quest. Only some of my generation can remember the long defunct scouts organization; neither my nieces nor their grownup children had the faintest what I was on about! An old friend of mine said it was, though he couldn't swear by it, 'A-sin A-thint' which literally means 'ever ready'. You'd have to ask User:Hintha to render it into Burmese script. Project Celt

Saw your note advertising this. To be honest I am too busy to devote anything other than cursory attention to it at present, but I thought you might be interested in WikiProject Scottish Islands. I toyed with the idea and the advice was that there were probably too few editors to keep it going. Perhaps in the long run there will prove to be the case, but just creating it it seems to have co-ordinated and galvanised support. There are now umpteen project pages, 500 WPSI banners, over 100 infoboxes etc. etc. - and we only started in July. Check it out at WP:ISLE. If you know of at least two other editors keenly interested in your project my suggestion is - just go for it. If it is interesting and dynamic it will attract attention. Good luck. Russian word is "просветитель", Bulgarian and Macedonian words are "просветител". I suppose that this word in Bulgarian (and most probably in later standardized Macedonian as well) was loaned from Russian. I mean group of people, devoted to public education and struggle for independent national church (see articles Miladinov Brothers and Grigor Parlichev for example), but which didn't act with openly violent methods as did members of later organized mass revolutionary movement (see article IMRO for example). This peace period of Bulgarian/Macedonian national revival preceded the period of armed struggle against Ottoman empire, that's why i'm trying to specify their different character. Hello Again!

It's me, Macman. I'm probably just taking up space on you page, but I want to say that I'm back. Right now I am typing on my own computer. My parents finally bought me one. Oh, and I read your comment on my page again. I'm not all that interested in the area you talked about, I was just doing a school project. But that is pretty interesting that you did some work there. By the way, I need some advice from a true scout. I left my troop because of the issues going on between the parents. They crossed the line and brought the kids into this. All of my friends left, too, but that's not why I left. My parents pulled me out. What should I do? My parents found another troop I could join and my friends found a troop miles and miles from where we live! I can't join because my parents don't want to drive all the way there. Can we talk about flushing money down the toilet? Gas prices are kinda high.
Anyway, It'd be nice to hear from you!!!
From a fellow scout, Mackenzie (My real name.)

I just saw it...

I didn't mean to have some of the text in boxes. Sorry —Preceding unsigned comment added by Macman007 (talkcontribs) 02:21, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 14:00, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Re: I know you!

Hmmm... Not sure, I'd probably know better if I saw your picture. You may know my brother Steve too, He and I both were very active on the section level, and attended NOACS. I went to '88 and '90 (I was a trainer at '90.) Steve went to both of those as well as Michigan which was '86 if memory serves. I went to Section Officer's Training in 1991, and to Rutgers in '86 for Regional Leadership training... We both look like we are related, although he has a lot darker hair. He is a council executive now in Upstate New York. So it could be either or both of us! If you want, send me more information and maybe I can fill in the gaps. Image source problem with Image:AustraliaOWS.jpg

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:AustraliaOWS.jpg. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 19:54, 11 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. Fair use rationale for Image:RFMeloneerscrop.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:RFMeloneerscrop.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. E Hoomakaukau

Chris,

Aloha nō. In regards to your question as to whether or not the "E" before Hoʻomākaukau makes a difference or not. The politically correct way would be to include the "E", so yes, technically, it would be E Hoʻomākaukau. Hope this helps. Kanaka maoli i puuwai 21:40, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Cuisine of San Marino

A tag has been placed on Cuisine of San Marino, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Fair use disputed for Image:GuatemalaScouts Baden Powell de Guatemalaindependientes.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:GuatemalaScouts Baden Powell de Guatemalaindependientes.jpg.

If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:53, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion tagging

For future reference, please look at the article history before tagging an article for speedy deletion. In the case of Escort (cigarette), you added a speedy deletion tag because it appeared to be a nonsensical article. I checked the article history, and apparently, someone had vandalized the article and added a whole bunch of nonsense. It's a reasonable mistake, but not every admin checks the article history to verify the tagger's rationale, so that's why I'm letting you know. Bennett Elementary article...

I am surprised and disappointed that the article on Bennett Elementary School, in Fargo, ND, was deleted from the Wikipedia. It was written to hew as closely as possible to the Wikischools initiative guidelines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Schools). In fact, it was written using a template from that project, and marked as being part of the project as best I could.

I should also mention that the article itself was created as part of a months-long class project by a group of talented third graders at Bennett (details here: http://fargoing.blogspot.com/2007/06/leaving-our-mark.html). The project not only added to the knowledgebase of the Wikipedia, it also demonstrated Wikipedia's power to a group of future editors. I fear that unless this decision is reversed, it will teach them that their efforts are better spent elsewhere.

The Wikischools initiative aims to "write quality articles about schools around the world," and the Bennett article was the result of many hours of work to do just that. The Bennett Elementary article was the only entry for an elementary school anywhere in North Dakota. If the standards for Wikipedia are so high that not a single elementary school in an entire U.S. state is worthy of inclusion, the Wikipedia community might want to reassess its standards.

I know that for me, personally, I'll be damned if I spend one more second editing or improving a Wikipedia article if this is the way quality information is treated by the community (after the article was *solicited* by the community through the Wikischools project). My time is worth more than this. There seems to be almost as great a fervor to remove information from the Wikipedia as there is to add it, and that is sad. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thmoore (talkcontribs) 15:31, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

Improving notability

Given that, please see my new comment at the AfD for Colorado Catholic Academy, I'm surprised the article has been left in that poor shape, considering how you usually jump in for the underdogs. Nobody's touched the thing, though they apparently have unearthed scads of keep material. Chris 01:40, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

  • I always try to leave an article improved for the better before participating in an AfD, and I haven't yet done so for Colorado Catholic Academy. An existing organization is always much easier to work with because there will usually be some claims about the school/company/organization to work with and use as a starting point for research. That makes it harder for a place like CCA. There has to be a better way to foster improvements to articles without using AfD, but until we find it, i wil continue to try to improve articles for the better when they're put up for deletion. Alansohn 02:01, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
I just added info from the description of the ABC story to the article. I looked at Google News Archives, which is a great tool, but didn't find anything (or anything useful, I forget). I think that means the local newspaper there doesn't have its online stories searchable through Google. I certainly see no reason at all to doubt your good faith, and I don't resent good-faith deletion nominations (or nominators!). Cheers, Noroton 02:18, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
