Cut and paste move

[edit]

Please don't move an article to a new title by cutting out the contents and pasting them into another page, as you did with GhKings. Doing so loses the editing history, which must be kept because Wikipedia's copyright terms require the history for attribution purposes. The correct way to change the title of a page is by using the "move" link at the top of the page. Normally any editor can do that, but sometimes the move is prevented by a page that already exists at the title you want to move the page to, in which case you can ask for an administrator to move the page by posting {{db-move|1=PAGE TO BE MOVED HERE|2=REASON FOR MOVE}} on the page to be deleted. @JamesBWatson:Thank you for the notice - as you can see from the GhKings revision history, I didn't make those changes (deletion). It was pure vandalism by user Freshprince09. You can see from the user's contribution, he/she is spamming wiki pages - also adding "Dawn ODG" page/links literally to every Wikipedia. Please block him and protect the GhKings page. Sorry, it seems I didn't make it clear what I was referring to. You are perfectly right about Freshprince09, who made disruptive changes designed to effectively delete the article on 3 August. I know about that, and have posted a warning to him or her about it, as you can see here. I am watching his or her edits, and I will consider blocking that account if there is any more disruption. However, that is not what I was referring to in my message above. I was referring to the fact that on 9 June you copied the contents of Ghkings to GhKings, and turned Ghkings into a redirect to GhKings. I suppose I should have provided more explanation, as you very probably don't remember everything you did almost two months ago. It is now impossible to see that in the publicly visible editing history, as I have history-merged the two articles together, and you didn't provide edit summaries saying what you were doing, but two edits in which you made redirects are still visible to administrators in the deleted editing history of the two pages. (Incidentally, whenever you copy content from one article to another, even if you aren't replacing one of them with a redirect, you should always provide an edit summary saying where you are copying the content from, as that is required by Wikipedia's copyright licensing terms.) • By the way, just to be perfectly sure there's no misunderstanding, I wasn't complaining or blaming you for what you did, I was just letting you know, so that if you ever want to move an article to a new title again you will know the right way to do it. @JamesBWatson: Thanks for the clarification. I will surely do as you've showed me next time - thanks again. Kingsbergdeheddles" (talk) 12:32, 04 August 2016 (GMT)
