Much to my surprise, The KLF article has been listed on FAC. I wasn't sure we were ready yet but apparently some people think so :) It's at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/The KLF if you want to chip in. (Note: Please don't think about supporting as a "favour" to me, as it does nobody any favours to have crap Featured Articles). --kingboyk14:01, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
My RfA
Dear Kingboyk/Archive 9 — Thank you for your support on my recent RfA. It succeeded with a final tally of 72/2/0 and I am now an administrator. I'll be taking things slowly at first and getting used to the new tools, but please let me know if there's any adminnery I can help you with in the future. —Whouk (talk) 00:13, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
KLF Image
Hi,
The image for the KLF page came from http://www.ultra-pop.org/galleri_k.htm and the photo was originally taken by someome called Ronnie Randall. The image and the page it is listed on bear no copyright notices. The image is also to be found at http://www.kompaktkiste.de/cd/_123/_9/9031728972.jpg as the cover of the What Time is Love CD single. If this is the case then the photo was endorsed by the band themselves, who are not noted for being the world's biggest supporters of copyright. Furthermore, as this article is of an educational nature and I believe that there are insufficient alternatives that give a clear shot of both of the band members, this image can qualify as fair use. Good luck with the FA! Martin Hinks08:14, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
I've provided a fair use rationale for the image Image:The KLF.jpg. Please could you check that this seems okay. I had to hybridize the recommended "CD" and "historical" fair use bullet points, because it's not a CD cover but it is a photo from an official KLF release. --Vinoir09:47, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
I don't think it's on, because it's not a scan of the CD cover, it's the actual photo that was used to make the sleeve. Best solicit the advice of an expert on these issues, probably the guy who objected in the first place? Looking at his contribs, images are his 'thing'. --kingboyk09:50, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for uploading Image:2K_-_Wheelchair.gif. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
Yes it looks good. I'd suggest removing the red links though, because I don't think those people are notable enough to get articles. --kingboyk20:31, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
I don't think so, because it's a Various Artists album and Macca didn't organise the concert (unlike George witgh Bangladesh). --kingboyk08:46, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
OK man, in that case why not? :) I've tagged it. Feel free to do the tagging yourself, I suspect you're more of an expert than I am :) --kingboyk09:58, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
Hope I've done this right
Hello Kingboy, thank you for The Beatles thingy/sticker. I'm still pretty new on the site and just getting the hang of things! How do you think I can help you with The Beatles? Oh before I go, there is one thing that I might be able to help with. I as reading the article and there seems to be a dispute about the attendence at Shea Stadium. I've checked and the offical attendence given in The Beatles Off The Record, was 55,600. Vera, Chuck & Dave21:32, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
From User talk:Vera, Chuck & Dave: Hi. I'm a little puzzled by your message on my talk page - have I been impolite?
Anyway... please just help as you see fit. Continue doing what you've been doing already. As you get more involved you might find new things you want to work on, but signing up to the WikiProject doesn't require any increased involvement or commitment.
With regards to Shea Stadium, I'm not familiar with the source you quote. Who was it written by? Can it be considered reliable? We can change the attendance and add a footnote if need be (The Beatles article is sorely in need of references anyway). --kingboyk10:45, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
Yes, with all due respect I feel that you have been impolite. As for "The Beatles Off The Record" I'm astonished that your'e not familiar with this book. It was written six years ago by Keith Bradman and has been described by The Beatles official biographer Hunter Davies as "A revealing portrait of The Beatles - much nearer the truth". Vera, Chuck & Dave11:07, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
Why have I been impolite? Because I didn't answer straight away?? Have you checked my contributions and seen how busy I am here?
I'm afraid I haven't read any new Beatle books for several years (apart from Cynthia's "John", which I got for Christmas, and a book about George after his death) so that one has escaped me. Well, anyway, what I have or haven't read is truly irrelevant. Please alter the statistic and add a footnote. If you need help with the footnote let me know - I'll need the ISBN, page number, name of publisher and city of publication. Cheers. --kingboyk11:14, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
The Beatles Off The Record, By Keith Badman (noted Beatles expert) ISBN 0-7119-7985-5. Omnibus Press London. Official attendence Shea Stadium 55,600. P193. Vera, Chuck & Dave14:10, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
No problem at all. I'm begining to see how this works. Sorry if I seemed impatient, it's just that in my line of work I need very quick answers - I shouldn't have carried that over into this. Vera, Chuck & Dave14:49, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
Hi, kingboyk:
In AMG the album is credited to varius artists but in my copy is a Macca album "with colaborations of...". There's a message from Macca from the Linda's death, but is only a Macca album. Mr. Manu18:32, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Kingboyk/Archive 9, thank you you so much for validatingmy RfA! I am grateful for all the supportive comments, and have taken both the positive and constructive on board. If I can ever make any improvements or help out in any way, please let me know, ditto if you see me stumble! Thanks again for your much appreciated support.
Deiziotalk18:07, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Quick note - I was really hoping to get your support, especially after the "Hugh Deasy" nonsense. I think you've done really well in your first few weeks as an admin and I'm hoping to follow suit. Deiziotalk22:43, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
I am missing something, I think: why have a template saying it was a featured article on a particular date, and also a template saying it was a featured article in the past? Aren't those redundant? - DavidWBrooks13:33, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
As I said in the edit summary, there may be some redundancy there but that's the way it is - a FA should be tagged with {{FA}}. Take it up with the FA people if you think the templates should be combined. Also, if you look closely you'll see that the FA template contains extra information not in the "on this date" template, such as a link to the actual FA debate for that article (Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/The Beatles). --kingboyk13:41, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

Request for Adminship
Thank you for supporting/objecting/tropicanising me in my request for Adminship. Although I wasn't promoted to admin status, with a final vote count of 14/27/12, I am very happy with the response I received from my fellow Wikipedians. I was pleasantly suprised at the support, and was touched by it. I will also work harder on preventing disputes and boosting my edit count (which is on the up), so thank you to all your objectors. Hopefully I will re-apply soon and try again for the mop. Thanks again, HighwayRainbow Sneakers
Paul Rules!
When you reverted Paul McCartney, you missed that bit I think. He does, but still.... sorted now though. Are you ever on IRC? We need to talk about Article Classification. I looked at my code on the plane yesterday and I have no idea what it does any more!!! I wonder if I should run it once more using the latest category dump, put the table it generates in to the page, and merge the ones we did in by hand and call it a day and give up? (can you tell I'm a bit bumming here?) ++Lar: t/c19:57, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I saw the latest revert. Guilty but only in as much as I must have either missed it or inadvertedly restored it :) I replied on your talk page about IRC (no, but I have various messengers). --kingboyk19:58, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
I noticed that you commented on my user page, citing "religious essays" and the use of Islam next to Identity. About the latter, would you prefer that I replaced the Islamic symbol at the top with another symbol? About the former, what do you believe falls under religious essay? I don't believe the mere use of religious symbols really falls under religious essay. Perhaps you disagree. Anyway, your feedback would be appreciated. joturner13:32, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
It's not that you're Islamic I have a problem with, and tbh your "religious essay" (which was fascinating by the way) was really the section you have deleted. However, I still believe you're coming on a bit strong on your user page. If I was you I'd remove "Islam" from the header of your "Identity" section. I imagine there's more to you than your religion - however important it is in your life - and you're running the risk of intolerant editors judging you by this before they'd read anything else. Perhaps you should change the focus of your user page to what you have achieved and want to achieve on Wikipedia, and publish your bio elsewhere? Regardless of all this, I think you will be promoted this time and if it's looking close I'll probably change to support. I don't want to stop you as you seem to be a good editor and a good person. --kingboyk13:45, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
Your first point about removing Islam from the header was exactly what I was talking about in my first comment. I complied, replacing it with another image. To some extent, I am okay with intolerant editors judging me by just a few statements on my page (they are intolerant after all and so I should be willing to ignore some negativity from them). On the other hand, it's decent constructive criticism and feedback, like the kind made by you and several other oppose voters, that will always be met with open arms. I was trying to use the religious symbols from various religions as a method of promoting unification among religions, which are often seen as dividing forces. Unfortunately, it has not come off that way. Nevertheless, once again, thanks for the suggestions. joturner14:17, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
Hmm... I'm not sure now. I personally would suggest removing the mention of religion entirely from the "Identity" header. As currently formatted, it looks like you're a Sikh :) Why not put the Wikipedia article count there? Anyway, I shall change to support. --kingboyk14:32, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
(eh? how did I do that?!)
change: "11:23, 19 May 2006 Kingboyk m" ... maybe you hit rollback by accident? That button scares me, it doesn't ask, it just does it and there you are in the article.... ++Lar: t/c15:55, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
Yep, I did open my user page by accident in a tab, I reckon I must have accidentally hit "rollback" in my hasty effort to close it! --kingboyk15:57, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
Where in the world is Stoke Orchard exactly? The article makes reference to other regions, which seem to suggest it is England (i.e. use of the -shire suffix; however, it is hard to determine where it is located.
Could you please provide additional information about this location? Perhaps you could even move the page to [[Stake Orchard, Superior location]], where "Superior location" indicates the country it is located in?
Additionally, geographical coordinates for the location would be great; links to sites that provide information on tourist, Government, or administrative services for the community would be splendid.
Thanks for the message. It's in England - can't believe I ommited that! I don't have grid refs handy but I can look them up. Moving the page is not necessary I think; my understanding is that it's only done for disambiguation (but I might be wrong). More later! --kingboyk18:20, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
P.S. When you are done, I would appreciate it if you could update the Orchard (disambiguation) page to include this entry.
I don't think that will be necessary, as the purpose of a dab page is to aid navigation, not to list every occurence of a word. I very much doubt anyone would type in "Orchard" when looking for the small village of "Stoke Orchard". What do you think? --kingboyk15:00, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
Bug
I just noticed that the history tool fails if the date format is not like "T:M, MONTH DATE, YEAR", it will fail. Selecting anything other than the "16:12, January 15, 2001" option caused the stats to not show up.Voice-of-AllTalk02:46, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
Aha! That will probably be the cause then mate, as I have it set to British style dates. Thanks! --kingboyk09:55, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:50, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
Diploma mills getting hit by one user
These removals at Glendale University[1] National Distance Learning Accreditation Council[2], list of unaccredited schools[3], and accreditation mills[4], [5] need to be watched. Usually Guy helps out with this stuff, but you mentioned you are willing to help out while he is gone. Arbusto05:38, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
I'll place them on my watchlists. However, these are tricky areas that Guy has some mastery in. If anything flairs up I'd advise posting on WP:ANI where more experienced admins can review it. Cheers. --kingboyk10:45, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
Bomlagadafshipoing
With regards to your inquiry on the Norwegian KLF article Talk page abour a Norwegian radio show purportedly bearing the above name I doubt it could have a genuine origin. The word amounts to gobbledygook, even in Norwegian, and although it is conceivable that some humorist radio show might use such a name (and that would of course be a format in which The KLF would feel at home), I am unaware of it. I will inform you of any more substantial information should it appear. __meco09:53, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
I got an e-mail from NRK today, saying (in my translation):
«Hi, and thanks for contacting us. Yes, it's correct that NRK P2 had a show called Bomlagadafshipoing, unfortunately I can't confirm whether Bill Drummong was interviewed on the show.»
The information on these two, important characters in Lennon's development, very, very weak in the Lennon article. I feel the articles are fine, or at least I'll write them and then you can incorperate the information into the Lennon article.--Crestville14:24, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
If you create a new article you'll have to give it a different name though, because the link you used is already in use. Other than that, do what you see fit and let's see how it looks :) --kingboyk14:32, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
How is everything going, Stevie? I just wanted to drop by and say thanks for your support and your kind words over the little incident I just went through. As I said at my Talk Page, you realy understand what friendship means. And please don't worry, I'm used to this sort of stuff, it's just that I didn't expect it here, so I kinda got caught by surprise. But a single ocasional editor can hardly make any difference in our community. I hope you're doing fine, sweetie, have a good *hug* from me - xxx Phaedriel♥tell me - 23:22, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

I'm sorry to hear you're used to it Sharon, as I thought it was way OTT. I guess I'm quite detached from these issues here in little ole England (although I am familiar with much of the history as I studied it at school). You have no obligation to answer personal attacks nor indeed general content issues on your talk page, and if anything is posted there which is offensive blank it! At the end of the day this is an open-access website, and we're gonna get extremist kooks popping in from time to time so should it ever happen again (and sadly it probably will) just think to yourself "f*ck em" next time and blank it, ok? :)
Well, anyway, I'm glad my words helped. If you ever want to talk off-wiki just send me an email. It's a bit bizarre talking personally in public! :) --kingboyk00:49, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
Emmmmmmmmmm
I have made articles about every single they have released, so don't accuse me of doing nothing. The three pages listed are good sources, not the usual link spam. Do your researches first. I think Dmoz is lousy, but if you feel like it, put it back in. cun18:24, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
No, it's alright. But let's both revert any more link additions unless they are high quality. --kingboyk19:08, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
Okay, sounds fine. I'll see what I can do about improving the article in the future. cun21:24, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
Dad's Army stubs
Hi Steve - it's OK, we know about that one :) It was proposed (I even made the icon for it). The category is still a bit small but it's a new one so hopefully it'll be up to speed fairly soon. As for linking to a WikiProject in the template, several of them do - it's not generally approved of, but it's not a big thing and too much of a hassle to be chased up a lot of the time (WP:WSS has enough to do and gets into enough conflict with other WikiProjects without pissing them off even more!). Thanks for keeping an eye out for odd stub types though! Grutness...wha?12:33, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
PS - if anyone from the project complains about you removing the WikiProject link, tell them it's generally better to put the link in the category rather than on the template - it doesn't get mirrored by other sites, and it's a handy central place for the link. Grutness...wha?12:37, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
Being a new user, I am not familiar with the WP chain of command or process of appeal. I believe you are a higher up administrator. If you are not, then please put me in contact with someone who is.
This is not a matter of taking sides but for the good of the WP community. The following comment gives you the flavor of what is going on in a nutshell.
"Stub it and then block the stub. The damage is a continuing damage as new readers come to the site. In fact each day the damage progresses. It's just a matter of time until a national or international media picks up the news. Like they did the Cuba article. I can see the bylline. "NeoKon Likudniks hijack Juan Cole WP article and get it locked against balancing edits. Tar him as anti-semite b/c of his forceful and effective criticism of repressive Israeli occupation of Palestinians and American heavy handed Iraq occupation. They are also concerned about his moderating stance toward the Iran war stampede." Take Care!--Will314159 16:32, 23 May 2006 (UTC)"
The problem is the article is locked in a prejudical mode, no consensus can be achieved, yet the administrator in charge, who won't identify himself, won't STUB a protected article but leaves the offending article up. Take Care!
Hi Will. I'm just a regular admin, no special powers, certainly no special ability! The page was protected by User:Mysekurity, so they should be your first port of call. I see you've also interracted with User:SlimVirgin, who is a very experienced admin. In general, incidents get reported to WP:ANI but I suggest you try and work this one out on Talk:Juan Cole. It's the best forum. Note also that protection should only ever be temporary so normal editing priveledges should resume at some point. --kingboyk08:29, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
Re : Wikipedia:Redirects for deletion
I don't watch to keep my sanity in check, but I did noticed the RfD. Anyway, I don't mind since it's probably a moot point by now, and to pursue any further would only serve to worsen my Wikistress if I did. - Mailer Diablo19:39, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
OK mate, thanks. Nothing personal about it I assure you, so apologies for it causing you stress. (Indeed, if it was personal I would have speedied it :)) --kingboyk19:41, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your assurance, and well hopefully my stress will go down somewhat after my exams. ;) - Best regards, Mailer Diablo05:15, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
Ah I see. Well, let me explain: I respect you very much as a fine admin. I don't think this particular policy is sound, but I understand and appreciate the motivation behind it. The redirect nomination, though, was purely routine - it's an invalid redirect as far as I'm concerned :) I could have speedy deleted, but because I respect you and didn't want to cause offence I nominated it instead. So, rather than being an attack please consider the listing an act of deference! Hope that clears it up. --kingboyk11:01, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
I appreciate that you did clear this up (twice!), I'm glad that you did, and thank you for doing so. I thought I just wanted to let you know a bit of the circumstances I'm under (which perhaps I should have just kept to myself, apologies for that) :) - Cheers, Mailer Diablo11:13, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
Mailer Diablo has smiled at you! Smiles promote WikiLove and hopefully this one has made your day better. Spread the WikiLove by smiling to someone else, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past or a good friend. Smile to others by adding {{subst:smile}}, {{subst:smile2}} or {{subst:smile3}} to their talk pages. Happy editing!
Yes, if that's the same guy it would be a better article name for sure! In which case we'll need to make a redirect or fix the incoming links. Again, let me know if you need any help on the matter. --kingboyk20:11, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
Welcome to the Queen WikiProject
Welcome to the Queen WikiProject
The Queen WikiProject aims to improve the coverage of Queen on Wikipedia.
I have incurred the wrath of more than just Darren Hayday in my time here at Wikipedia: I created most of the Buckinghamshire place articles and continue to watch them, and to revert vandalism applied to them. Of all the vandalism to my userspace over the years I would not be surprised if most of it originated in Bucks because of this. Because Buckinghamshire County Council is the biggest institution in Bucks with several public portals a checkuser on an IP registered to them is likely to prove very little. -- Francs200011:11, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
The F1 portal (in which I assume you have some degree of interest, as your name is listed on Wikipedia:WikiProject_Formula_One) is intended to have a regular rotation of a 'featured article'. I've swapped a few in and out over the last couple of months, but I think it would be better if there were more of a community attempt at deciding this, proposals, votes, that kind of thing. So - why not pop over to Portal_talk:Formula_One#Suggestions_for_Featured_Article: and make a suggestion. Ta. 4u1e00:28, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
Wow you were busy
I see you renamed TheBeatlesArticle... wonder why you didn't do the ratings at the same time? No worries though! ++Lar: t/c12:19, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
I did! I've added the extra params as you requested, and I'm in the process of tagging the articles we've already rated as part of my AWB run. New ratings will have to wait, I'm not Superman you know! :P
I was thinkin'... if Oleg agrees to implement some sort of template or meta-text functionality for grabbing assessment comments from talk pages, one of us can do an AWB run on all articles in Category:The Beatles song stubs, with a comment along the lines of "DEFAULT ASSESSMENT OF STUB. Article needs to be checked, and destubbed/reclassified if it is no longer a stub". I won't do it yet though since Oleg hasn't replied yet. --kingboyk12:23, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
Scratch that idea, as a lot of em would be merge candidates. We'll have to do it manually. I got a reply at Wikipedia_talk:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team/Index_of_subjects#WikiProject_The_Beatles, I don't think he's too interested in expanding the bot to cover our "requirements" which is fair enough. We could stick with what MathBot provides for now, and erase out tables... and look at bringing back the extra functionality with our own bot later on? Anyway, let's see, he hasn't said no yet but he doesn't seem very impressed by my ideas :) --kingboyk 14:11, 26 May 2006 (UTC) Get a grip Kingboyk! That was mr Krill from Military History, not Mr Mathbot. Watching for a reply continues! :) --kingboyk14:21, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
Not really too interested in debating it any further, as it comes down to whether he's notable or not. I've made it clear that I think he isn't. I'm willing to let it lie, but if you wish to take it AFD for an airing I'd support that too. Thanks for the headsup. --kingboyk14:26, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
Hi kingboyk, Can I change the Paul McCartney Template, adding The Family Way, A Garland for Linda, Wings Over America, etc..???. Other question: I'm working now in The Paul McCartney Collection, but this week i don't have time to keep writing the article, can you give me a little help, please???
Thanks & Chao--Mr. Manu18:40, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
While i agree that she is undisputably welsh there is something of a constant edit war between those who feel it is more appropriate to describe her as "British" and those who prefer "welsh". i added the source, to show her descirbing herself as Welsh. If anyone changes it back to "BRitish", I'm afraid i'll be inclined to restore the source. Amo23:41, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
OK. I think they're warring over the word rather than disputing she's from Wales. I moved it to external links; I daresay that if the article moves to the <ref> citations system it can be put back, but it looked "wrong" to me as it was. The article's not on my watchlist so if you feel the need to put it back I probably won't interfere :) Thanks for the message. --kingboyk08:04, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

I saw a question you left on another user's talk page about how to use Lupin's popups to do one-click disambiguation, and I didn't see whether you ever got an answer. It's one of my favorite tools, so I thought I'd poke my nose in: it's just an option you can enable by adding the text
Sure -- any time you hover over a link that goes to a disambiguation page (one tagged with a {{disambig}} template), you will see a list of potential disambiguation targets at the bottom of the preview box, in green. Click on one of those green links, and the tool will automatically edit the link to point at the correct target, rather than the disambiguation page. Try hovering over John Taylor, for example (he contains multitudes). Does that help? — Catherine\talk08:52, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
Ah yes... thank you! Silly me, should have realised it needed to be in preview mode. Trying it here it doesn't work (tries to open "Editing User talk:Kingboyk" rather than "User talk:Kingboyk" but I'll test it in mainspace next time I need to dab before complaining! :) Thanks again for your help, very kind of you. --kingboyk08:59, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, I didn't mean the "preview" page, I meant the bottom of the popup. On any page, in regular viewing mode or in preview mode, when you hover over any link that goes to a dab page will have an extra section at the bottom of the popup box, full of green article titles, which says "Click to disambiguate this link to: A.J.P. Taylor, Jack Taylor (baseball player), Jock Taylor, John Albert Taylor, John B. Taylor, John Budd Taylor, John Edward Taylor, John G. Taylor, John Henry Taylor, John I. Taylor, John J Taylor, John James Taylor, John Lampkin Taylor, John Mark Taylor, John May Taylor, John P. Taylor..." (in my John Taylor example). :) — Catherine\talk18:59, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
Hi Steve, and thank you for your thoughtful and supportive comments in my request for adminship! With a final tally of (109/5/1), I have been entrusted with adminship. It's been several weeks since the conclusion of the process, so hopefully you've had a chancetoseemeinaction. Please let me know what you think! Thanks again, and you don't need me to tell you that it's a blast working with you closely as we have, but I will anyway...!!! ++Lar: t/c03:25, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
Hello Kingboyk. Thank you for your support at request for adminship and your gracious statement in my Editor review, which was also highly influential, as it was quoted by many RfA participants and strongly contributed to the overwhelming and flattering result of (160/1/0), and leaves me in a position of having to live up to a high standard of community expectation. Of course, your encouragement to run was reassuring, and if I make any procedural mistakes, feel free to point them out. Of course, I look forward to working with you in the future. Deleted article?
Hi. Please see my request on Deletion Review to see the contents of Disenfranchised Grief moved to my User or Talk page (whichever is appropriate). I think it may well have been incorrectly deleted (only 1 vote each way) and could well be worthy of an article or at least some work - but I can't tell without seeing it. Thanks in advance. Bastun23:55, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
Thanks - have saved the article off Wikipedia and deleted it from my userpage. I think that properly referenced and verified it has the basis for a decent article. Am I right in thinking that rather than just recreating the article page, it does need to go to DRV? Bastun09:36, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
It goes to DRV if you want to challenge the decision. You're allowed to start a new article but if it's a straightforward recreation, it'll probably be speedy deleted. If it's just similar, expect to have problems too. Maybe you could make a new version in your user space, then at DRV say you want to replace it with that one. --kingboyk 09:42, 30 May 2006 (UTC) P.S. I thought from your request that it was already on DRV. It would seem not. Why don't you make an article in your user space, e.g. at User:Bastun/Sandbox and let me have a look at it? Then we can discuss how to proceed. --kingboyk09:42, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
I thought about DRV initially and while I think the deletion decision was erroneous (1 vote to keep, 1 to delete), the article itself is not really up to scratch as it stands, so that'd be a bit pointless. I'll proceed as you suggest. Cheers. Bastun09:53, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
No L
Cheers mate, and I didn't even have to ask! Too long for GA status, right, point taken. I will try to consolodate the sources when I get a chance but I'm swamped right now. I already got a peer review but noone commented on it.--Crestville20:22, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
Since it was closed early, I don't know if it was patent nonsense, but please don't close things via WP:SNOW. It's not policy and only angers people, especially when other avenues may be available. Thanks. --badlydrawnjeff (WP:MEMES?) 22:04, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
The article was crap, not quite patent nonsense but almost. I was cleaning the category where articles tagged with {{importance}} live, and camr across it. Wikipedia gains nothing from it staying. --kingboyk08:40, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
The Beatles project newsletter, Issue 002, June 2006
Apple Corps v. Apple Computer. A case brought by Apple Corps against Apple Computer, regarding possible infringement of a previous agreement between the two parties in respect of distribution of music, was heard in a London High Court. The story made Wikipedia's front page due to a nomination by our own Kingboyk. The story had an amusing second wave in the news and on Wikipedia; be sure to read the article on Guy Goma if you missed it!
Project News
The Beatles article has been approved for inclusion in Wikipedia Version 0.5, making it one of the first 20 articles to be selected and the first in the Music category.
Eleven new articles have been listed in the Project Log since 1 May.
The hottest Project page this month has been Policy Talk, where some lively discussion has taken place regarding the (perennial) question of the capitalisation of the letter T in "The Beatles". After seeking the comments of Wikipedian third parties unrelated to the project, the proponents and opponents concluded that the current naming policy was correct. The discussion had the added bonus of bringing in some new members.
Project member (and "co-instigator" of The Beatles Project) Lar was made an Administrator. Project member Kingboyk (the other guilty party) has been awarded a Music Barnstar for his contributions, including his work within The Beatles Project, and has also stewarded the KLF article to Featured Article status this month. Sometimes-contributor ZincOrbie has also been awarded a Barnstar for his work on the Badfinger article. Congratulations to all!
The Beatles have been in the real world news recently, but work on The Beatles Project continues as before. This newsletter keeps you up-to-date with what has been happening with the project and, perhaps more importantly, what needs to be done (see the "Issue of the Month" above and the "To Do List" below-left).
If you've just joined, add your name to the Participants section of Wikipedia:WikiProject The Beatles. You'll get a mention in the next issue of the Newsletter and get it delivered as desired. Also, please include your own promotions and awards in future issues. Don't be shy!
Lastly, this is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue (Issue 003 – July 2006). All and any contributions are welcome. Just let yourself be known to any of the undersigned, or start editing!
As the project is currently just starting, our more experienced editors are working on the project infrastructure, classifying articles, and listing/assessing red links. Your assistance is welcome. If you would prefer to just edit - and why wouldn't you? - we have a choice selection of red links to turn blue and articles to clean! Now let's get busy.
Project: Add {{WPBeatles}} to the talk pages of all Beatles-related articles. Send a newsletter to members, canvas for new members, and coordinate tasks. Enter articles classed as stubs into this list (under To Expand) and also list articles needing cleaning and other work here.
If you complete one of these tasks, please remove it from the list and add your achievement to the project log.
Beatles Discography | US Singles
Hiya... I'm working on correcting/improving the Discography bit by bit, starting first with the US Singles. I have a mockup in my sandbox (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Brian.D/Sandbox). Also, I note that the page for the flip-side of Let It Be, You Know My Name (Look Up My Number), has it as "Up The Number" throughout. I know how to correct the page(s), but not how to rename the incorrect page to the proper title (and, I should imagine I am not permitted to do so!). If you could correct the page name, I'd be most appreciative. -- Brian.D01:58, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
I appreciate your comments on my talk page -- I've left a reply for you there. In addition, I've been working on the formatting, etc of the US Singles in my sandbox -- I'd appreciate your comments, suggestions, review, whatever on the proposed change (and, yes, I do plan on making the same changes to the UK Singles section for continuity -- Brian.D02:21, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
I'm in the lets-make-this-encyclopedia-better mood so I am working on adding articles in the GA page thus making them once reviewed before they go on to V0.5 ... V1.0. The only thing I cannot do is to fact-check every information even when people have given citations. Lincher15:03, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
My RfA
Kingboyk/Archive 9, thank you for participating in my RfA. Unfortunately, a great number of oppose voters felt that I lacked experience, and a consensus was not reached (the final tally was 30/28/10). Perhaps I will try again in another few months when I have a few more edits under my belt. If I do, I hope I can count on your support. Thanks again!

Heads will roll
You're an Admin, right? This user has vandelised my talk page. Can you do something about it please? Go on! Enjoy yourself! Roll his head! Cheers.--Crestville13:32, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
I've given them a "blatant vandal" warning. We block to prevent damage rather than punish, in particular where an IP address is concerned. As that IP has only ever edited your user page it's probably somebody you've ruffled getting their own back in a cowardly fashion... so, if it happens again and you notice while the vandalism is still fresh, report it at WP:AIV. --kingboyk14:11, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
Alright mate? Sorry to keep coming to you with these things, but you're the only admin I know who's never tried to block me. I was hoping you could have a looks at this user - User:Feline1. He really is a nasty peice of work (look at some of the stuff on the Revolver (album) talk page and directed at User:Brian G. Wilson. I realise some of my comments towards him could be construed as personal attacks, and while I was antagonised, I understand if I get blocked or whatever, but he needs something doing about his general bad attitude. In fact, it's not even his personal attacks which I find most distasteful. It's his sumgness, the way he reacts to well-intentioned users by insulting them, branding them "morons" for simple mistakes. There is a line common to this in failed musicians. Knock him down a peg would you please?--Crestville14:57, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
Any feedback? I find it odd that you would be dismissive of a user who is clearly so acidic and difficult to work with. No offence, like. Still, he;s no lumberjack and that ain't cricket.--Crestville 20:25, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
Oh, sorry, missed this. Been busy with articles lately and neglected the talk page. Hmm... well... looks like you 2 are getting along alright now. Dispute resolution really isn't my thing: deleting stuff, blocking obvious vandals, protecting pages, these things I can do. WP:ANI or mediation is a better place to go. I'm not wanting to be unhelpful, it's simply not an area I excel in. --kingboyk09:28, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
Because it was a red link, and because you've been adding nonsense. If the link is now blue and the article is sensible by all means readd it to the template. --kingboyk18:28, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
library submission
I got your humungous email thanks, don't know when I'll have time to deal with it! your work on the KLF wiki articles has been amazing! cheers Drstuey10:49, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
G'day, Kinhboyk, not that any of my comments were there but was there a reason you deleted
a stack of stuff on the Revolver talk page recently? I'm assuming finger trouble... Cheers, Ian Rose09:13, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
No, it's happened on one or two pages and I can only assume it's a Mediawiki problem. Evidently the edit box wasn't getting filled with the entire contents of the article, but nonetheless the save button was appearing. I would have thought that if it were a connection issue I wouldn't get the save button as that appears in the HTML after the edit box! As I was tagging a lot of talk pages a few of these errors might have slipped through (I hope not many!). I'll attend to that one now. Cheers. --kingboyk09:17, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
