User talk:King of Scorpions/Mentorship
Beginning of mentorship
[edit]@TheAwesomeHwyh: What's the first subject you would want to mentor me in? King of Scorpions 19:05, 30 January 2020 (UTC)
- I've been thinking about that for a little while and I think the best thing in the start is to give you a simple task, see how you do and tell you how you can improve after you finished it. As a start, try editing Parrot OS to tone down its promotional tone so it follows WP:NPOV. TheAwesomeHwyh 16:31, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Let me re-read WP:NPOV, and then I'll go do it. King of Scorpions 16:33, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- You were right-Parrot OS had some serious problems. I fixed what I could, rewording salvageable sentences, deleting the ones that were 100% advertisement... what did you think? Sorry about the edit conflict, by the way. King of Scorpions 16:53, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- There is still some promotional text ("without a hassle", "so secure and so simple to use"). TheAwesomeHwyh 16:58, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Looks like you already fixed the latter issue. TheAwesomeHwyh 16:59, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- There is still some promotional text ("without a hassle", "so secure and so simple to use"). TheAwesomeHwyh 16:58, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Is Wikipedia always like this? You think you've "fixed" an article, but more issues pop up. I've never been more grateful for the thousands of editors that make Wikipedia work... King of Scorpions 17:02, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- It can feel like it sometimes! But, I think its worth it because you just made that article a little more helpful to readers. I'm going to find something a little more complex for you to do, since you did such a good job with that task. TheAwesomeHwyh 17:04, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Should I be nervous? King of Scorpions 17:05, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Hah! Not at all. What area of editing are you most interested in? For instance, I do a lot of work with video games and anti-vandalism. TheAwesomeHwyh 17:07, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Anti-vandalism? could you elaborate more on what that means? How do you anti-vandalize? Also, about Parrot OS... do you really think I did a good job on it, or were you just being nice? I can handle the truth:) King of Scorpions 17:13, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- I mean the removal of vandalism. And yes, you did do a great job! TheAwesomeHwyh 17:15, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- I vandalized once as an IP, not knowing any better, but I didn't realize other people did it too. Could you show me how to identify and remove vandalism? That seems like something noble for me to assist in... [Also, I think by now it's official that our discussions are on my talk page...] King of Scorpions 17:17, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
The anti-vandalism path
[edit]Of course, but anti-vandalism is one of the most complex tasks on the encyclopedia. One wrong revert and you can potentially scare away a user forever. One second, I think I have an idea on how to teach you, though it will probably be a long process (but a rewarding one!), and it is difficult to begin doing it, as much of the more powerful anti-vandalism tools aren't available to new users, only people who, almost paradoxically, already have a history of anti-vandalism. TheAwesomeHwyh 17:23, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- What was that thing you did to reset the indenting? Also, I'd be willing to learn about anti-vandalism... King of Scorpions 17:24, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Ok, I'm about to make a few anti-vandalism edits. Observe what I do closely. And that was Template:Outdent. TheAwesomeHwyh 17:25, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Ok, I made a few. What did you observe about them? TheAwesomeHwyh 17:30, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- I observed that you found the edits that had problems [still not sure how you found them, though], undid them, and left a warning message on the talk page of the person who did the edits? With the warning different, depending on the edit? Let me know if I'm missing anything, King of Scorpions 17:32, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- I found them through WP:Huggle, one of the more advanced tools I mentioned earlier. Only trusted users can use it since it is extremely powerful, and allows you to revert and warn a user in under a second. Some users got higher level warnings because they had been warned more times in the past month. If a user was warned three times, then you give them a level four the next. Past that, you usually report a user to the administrators at WP:AIV. TheAwesomeHwyh 17:36, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Is there any way to find and undo vandalism without WP:Huggle, then? King of Scorpions 17:38, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, but I find it more difficult. You would use a combination of Special:RecentChanges and WP:Twinkle. You would look through recent changes for edits that look suspicious, and check if they are vandalism. If they are, you revert it with Twinkle. However, I wouldn't recommend you do this quite yet. I have an idea for an exercise to help you identify vandalism. I will make some edits to my sandbox, and you will identify if they are vandalism or not. If they are, revert me using Twinkle. If they seem like a good faith edit, then use the "thank" button. Tell me once you have Twinkle installed. TheAwesomeHwyh 17:43, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Okay, I'm ready. King of Scorpions 17:46, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Oh wait, duh. You aren't WP:Autoconfirmed yet, so you can't actually use Twinkle. Whoops. You'll have to wait until you are in order to do that. Sorry. We can do something else, though. TheAwesomeHwyh 17:47, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- I am autoconfirmed, actually. I joined on 1/24 and have around 100 edits. I thought autoconfirmed was 4 days/10 edits? King of Scorpions 17:49, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
Want me to prove it by welcoming you on your sandbox's talk page using Twinkle? King of Scorpions 17:51, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Oh your right. I must be tired, haha. Alright, well I realized that doing it in my sandbox is a bad idea since I'm planning to publish that as an article eventually, and we don't need that in the edit history! I'm going to think of something better, but it might take a while. I'll try to come up with something by the end of the day. TheAwesomeHwyh 17:53, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- That's fine, maybe I'll just try to neutrally word biased articles, like how we cleaned up Parrot OS? That sounds like a good idea... [sudden thought] Maybe you could create a second sandbox for our testing, and not use your main one? Let me know what you think... King of Scorpions 17:58, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- @TheAwesomeHwyh:Could you point me to where I can find those articles that need reworded that I mentioned in the previous message? King of Scorpions 17:59, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- You can find more at Category:Articles with a promotional tone. TheAwesomeHwyh 18:00, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks! Will check it out. King of Scorpions 18:02, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
Just had idea
[edit]I think I'll go to Recent Changes and perform one act of anti-vandalism. Please let me know if I do anything wrong, or if I did a good job. Thanks, King of Scorpions 19:34, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- I assume you mean this edit? There was nothing wrong with the reversion itself, but you probably shouldn't have tagged that as a test edit. It looks like vandalism to me, not a test. TheAwesomeHwyh 22:20, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Did you find somewhere that I can carry out the idea you had earlier? While I waited, I did some major NPOV work on Chinese Garden, Singapore. Could you compare the revisions and tell mw how I did? (I did several revisions.) I also did some spelling and grammar work, and some NPOV work on other articles... King of Scorpions 22:24, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- What idea do you mean? And also your edits looked fine. TheAwesomeHwyh 22:30, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks! The idea I'm referring to is the proposed plan where I either thanked or reverted your edits, based on whether they were good-faith or vandalism. The one that you were going to look for somewhere else to try because your sandbox wouldn't work. Does that help? King of Scorpions 22:33, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Actually, I was trying to find a better way to teach you about the complexities of anti-vandalism. I've thought about it some more, and I think this is so advanced that we ought to work on simpler things first. How does working on referencing sound? Also, try to ping me. I don't usually check my watchlist. TheAwesomeHwyh 22:40, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- @TheAwesomeHwyh: Working on referencing sounds good. Should we start now? I'll be available for a few more hours... King of Scorpions 22:42, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- @King of Scorpions:Alright. Find an article at "Category:Articles lacking sources" and find a reliable source that verifies something unsourced in the article, and add it. I recommend reading both of the links I gave you in full. TheAwesomeHwyh 22:46, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- @TheAwesomeHwyh: Check Twilight Cinema (album). I put a reference referring to the album's funding campaign... King of Scorpions 23:03, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- That is not a complete reference- compare the refrence you made there to the references on Go Vacation, an article I've made hundreds of edits to. I would also use a CS1 template (but only if you're the first author and if CS1 is already used in the article) instead of pure wikitext. I would also recomend using the WP:VisualEditor's automatic referencing button... thing. TheAwesomeHwyh 23:08, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Visual editor really does help. I'd use it for everything if it wasn't so laggy on my laptop... let me know what you think now... King of Scorpions 23:14, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Perfect! Though, you have a space between the reference and the full stop, there shouldn't be one. Also, you should get rid of the template saying that the article has no references, as that isn't true anymore. TheAwesomeHwyh 23:18, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Fixed it. Thanks for the help! King of Scorpions 23:29, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- You're welcome! Also, it's incredible how quickly you learn- keep at it! Also, I know that sometimes Wikipedia can seem like a strange game; the only winning move is not to play, but if you keep at it, it's incredibly rewarding. TheAwesomeHwyh 23:33, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- I've always been a quick learner:) I also like the feeling of improving something. I wish vandals would realize how satisfying contributing is... King of Scorpions 23:34, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- I think we're done for today. Continue on the 3rd? TheAwesomeHwyh 23:55, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Sure! King of Scorpions 23:59, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

Twinkle
[edit] Sorry to pester you, but is there anywhere that I can test out Twinkle's features? Thanks, King of Scorpions 18:17, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
- Never mind, I guess the sandbox would work... King of Scorpions 19:27, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
New day of mentorship
[edit]@TheAwesomeHwyh:What do you want to teach me today? King of Scorpions 16:24, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- Howdy! Is there anything you want to write about in particular? Something we haven't done before. TheAwesomeHwyh 16:34, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- I don't really understand what WP:Ignore all rules means... that seems like it could be interpreted the wrong way... just for clarification, what does it mean, in your own words? The page didn't say much:) King of Scorpions 16:39, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- I think thats one of the most complicated rules on Wikipedia, despite having one of the shortest pages. I think it's best not to worry about that one at the moment. On another note: have you thought about setting up a bot to archive your talkpage? It's getting kinda hard to navigate. TheAwesomeHwyh 16:41, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- @TheAwesomeHwyh:I would have no idea how to even do that. Could you teach me? And what do you mean by a "bot"? Thanks, King of Scorpions 16:44, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- A robot- an automated computer program. There are two that I know of which archive talk pages, (See: Help:Archiving a talk page) Cluebot III and Lowercase sigmabot III. I use Cluebot, but both work. I also have it set to archive after only one month, instead of two. Both of them will automatically move sections that haven't been replied to for a set amount of time to a archive it will create. TheAwesomeHwyh 16:49, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- Of course, it's all completely optional. TheAwesomeHwyh 16:52, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- I do agree that my page is hard to navigate, though. Took me a while, but I set it to archive discussions older than two weeks. [Oh wait, that removes exactly nothing.] Gonna go set it to one week now... King of Scorpions 16:56, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- I would make the hour count larger than a week, and increase it to a month; people sometimes still reply after only 7 days. Also, you should add a maximum size to the archive (I use 75000), or else the bot will never make a new archive past 1 (I think). TheAwesomeHwyh 16:58, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- Also, it's not immediate- it can take a while. TheAwesomeHwyh 17:03, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- We may have gotten off track a little with the whole "archive" thing. What do you think I should do today? I could do more NPOV stuff or something like that... King of Scorpions 17:06, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- Sure, but it does look like you're having some trouble. You can just copy and paste it from my talk page and adjust it to your needs. TheAwesomeHwyh 17:07, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- But sure, why not try out WP:Speedy deletion? Promotion is a huge problem here and we (Wikipedia) could use all the help we can get! TheAwesomeHwyh 17:08, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- I just undid your last change to the archive- I'm not sure how but it seems to have made this page the archive. TheAwesomeHwyh 17:12, 3 February 2020 (UTC)

Ok, I have everything ready to work on speedy deletion, if you want. TheAwesomeHwyh 17:16, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- @TheAwesomeHwyh:Sure! Also, sorry about breaking the page;) King of Scorpions 17:18, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- Haha, its fine, (I've done it many times) have you read the speedy deletion criteria? TheAwesomeHwyh 17:19, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- @TheAwesomeHwyh:Yes, and it also tells you what each one means within Twinkle, also. King of Scorpions 17:21, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- Ok, I have a custom search to find promotion set up here be careful to only tag promotional stuff. TheAwesomeHwyh 17:24, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- Oh, and make sure to press "500" at the bottom. TheAwesomeHwyh 17:24, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- Why did you tag User:Spinecraft for deletion??? How is that promotional? TheAwesomeHwyh 17:28, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- It appeared to be promoting his music. I thought you weren't supposed to promote yourself on Wikipedia? I'm really sorry if I messed up... King of Scorpions 17:30, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- That was just that user talking about who they are... promotion is more like "King of Scorpions is the premier in scorpion technology, combining the latest in pineapples and water to create a whole new type of scorpion". TheAwesomeHwyh 17:33, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- Why not try again, there's plenty of promotional stuff in that search. TheAwesomeHwyh 17:35, 3 February 2020 (UTC)

- Are you still here? Please don't be discouraged. TheAwesomeHwyh 17:47, 3 February 2020 (UTC)

- Oh! Haha, I thought that you were like, super upset that you couldn't tag it or something, I didn't even consider edit conflicts! There's a lot of stuff, hold on while I get some ideas. TheAwesomeHwyh 17:55, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- How much do you know about astrophysics? TheAwesomeHwyh 17:57, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- Pretty much nothing. Sorry! King of Scorpions 17:59, 3 February 2020 (UTC)

I only know a few video games, mainly Bloons Tower Defense and Clicker Heroes [see my draft on its developer], and I dabble in Hill Climb Racing... do you know any of these games? King of Scorpions 18:06, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- It may be a bit dificult to improve a lot of these, just because I've noticed that a lot of mobile games don't have much written on them. Also, it feels like all of the great games have already had decent articles written on them. Like, my favorite game of all time, Ōkami is already a WP:Featured Article! There is plenty to work on in the mobile games space, I think. Why not work on some of those games? TheAwesomeHwyh 18:11, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- Sure! King of Scorpions 18:13, 3 February 2020 (UTC)

- @TheAwesomeHwyh: So, I found out a little bit about WikiProjects. What are those, exactly? King of Scorpions 20:19, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- The best way to describe them is, I think, a loose collective of people who all work on the same articles. They're useful since they help collaboration. TheAwesomeHwyh 22:16, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- It sounds interesting. Also, I figured out how to add an archive header that didn't break the page... see the top of my talk. King of Scorpions 22:18, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
- I noticed! I think it will work. TheAwesomeHwyh 22:21, 3 February 2020 (UTC)

[edit]@TheAwesomeHwyh:Did you come up with something to teach me today? King of Scorpions 16:13, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, sorry it took me so long to reply. The first thing I was wondering was, how well do you understand the difference between all the ways an article can be deleted? Can you explain them to me? TheAwesomeHwyh 01:33, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
- In your own words, of course. (It can be kind of confusing, the difference!) TheAwesomeHwyh 01:34, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
- Well, one way is the Articles for Deletion process, where you can nominate an article for deletion, and then it is discussed for a week on whether it should be deleted, kept, or merged [I think]. The second way is speedy deletion, which has certain requirements for it to be tagged for that. Once it's tagged, it can be deleted if it meets the criteria. Am I correct? I know there's a third way, I just forgot what it is:) King of Scorpions 16:03, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
- I actually was asking about how an article could be deleted yesterday, in the Teahouse. Long story short, I was doing my Category:Articles with a promotional tone sweep and came across an unreferenced, biasedly written article about something that I've never heard of, and I wanted to know how to delete it. (You were there temporarily, remember?) King of Scorpions 16:09, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
- I probably won't be able to edit tomorrow, just so you know. King of Scorpions 23:11, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
- You are correct about deletion, but you forgot WP:Proposed deletion. TheAwesomeHwyh 02:12, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
- So, my understanding of proposed deletion is: You can tag the article for proposed deletion, if it doesn't exactly meet the speedy deletion criteria. Then the tag stays on for a week, and if anybody objects, it can never be PRODed again? Am I missing something? Let me know if I missed anything, King of Scorpions 15:56, 7 February 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Anything to teach me today? King of Scorpions 18:34, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
- How about working on WP:Alt text? I think I'm one of only a few editors working in that space. TheAwesomeHwyh 18:35, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
- Why not? It sounds interesting. Where would I go to work on that? Thanks, King of Scorpions 18:39, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
- I'm not aware of any categories for articles missing alt text. I just go through the encyclopedia until I find some images that need it. TheAwesomeHwyh 18:41, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
- Instar is missing alt text, though most of the images there don't need it. Can you identify the one that does and add alt text to it? TheAwesomeHwyh 18:46, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
- Nevermind, I'm actually not sure if any of those images need alt text, just better captions. TheAwesomeHwyh 18:48, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
- What I would do there is work on better captions. TheAwesomeHwyh 18:50, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
- To be honest, I'm not seeing the problem with the current captions. They seem to be accurately describing the images... is there something I'm missing? Any help appreciated, King of Scorpions 18:55, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
- Eh, it wasn't the best example, but one of the images is literally just one word "larva". Seems too short but eh. I've just removed it as it seems too similar to the image next to it. TheAwesomeHwyh 19:01, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
- Maybe you could find me a different article to do the alt text thing on? King of Scorpions 19:04, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
- Some of the images on Palmanova don't have captions or alt text. I would add alt text to those ones. TheAwesomeHwyh 19:07, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
- Good job adding alt text to those images, but you missed the ones that are missing captions. TheAwesomeHwyh 19:13, 10 February 2020 (UTC)

[edit]@TheAwesomeHwyh: Are you available to mentor me today? King of Scorpions (my talk) 17:03, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- Yes. Sorry for not responding as much as usual lately. TheAwesomeHwyh 17:18, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- You want to learn about anti-vandalism? TheAwesomeHwyh 17:24, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- Yes. I have more experience than I did before, so it might be worth another try... King of Scorpions (my talk) 17:25, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- Ok. Are you able to read Special:Recentchanges? TheAwesomeHwyh 17:26, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- Yes. I just have to keep the number of changes below 250, or my computer starts getting laggy... King of Scorpions (my talk) 17:28, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- That's fine. Have you been watching my anti-vandalism work? TheAwesomeHwyh 17:29, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- I have. King of Scorpions (my talk) 17:30, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- Ok. I think if you were any other new user I would have a lot more preparation than this, but seeing how fast you've been able to learn I have my confidence that you wont make (too many) mistakes. Why not look for vandalism in Special:Recentchanges? I will try to help you if you make any mistakes. TheAwesomeHwyh 17:34, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- (And also considering we already went over some of the basics earlier). TheAwesomeHwyh 17:38, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- Great job fixing this. TheAwesomeHwyh 17:40, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- I would've also added a warning here. TheAwesomeHwyh 17:45, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- I try to strike a balance between coming down on them too strong and being too lenient... it's a hard balance to get exactly right... King of Scorpions (my talk) 17:47, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- That's good, but you also want to include a warning because people are usually only reported or banned after their final (4th) warning. The level 1 warnings aren't too harsh, I think. TheAwesomeHwyh 17:50, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- Er, blocked. TheAwesomeHwyh 17:50, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- I'm not really sure if the edit here was vandalism, but it could've been. Personally, I wouldn't have reverted it. TheAwesomeHwyh 17:58, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- Oops... King of Scorpions (my talk) 17:59, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- This is the filter I use in Recent Changes to find the vandalism... King of Scorpions (my talk) 18:04, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- That's a pretty good filter. TheAwesomeHwyh 18:15, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- It looks like when I used to use recent changes to find vandalism, I used "likely bad faith" instead. I think it picks up more false positives but also catches more vandalism that your settings don't. TheAwesomeHwyh 18:17, 12 February 2020 (UTC)

- Oh, haha I don't think I need help on any of them. I think that there was only one study done on that shark, anyways. I'm pretty much done with The Haunted Island, and The Case of the Invisible Wizard doesn't have much I haven't included either. TheAwesomeHwyh 18:50, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- Well, The Case of the Invisible Wizard may have more, but It's probably more mundane stuff like review quotes and such. TheAwesomeHwyh 18:53, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- I think it's probably more important to bring stub articles up to start-class than to try to get a decent article (c-class maybe?) to a GA.... King of Scorpions (my talk) 18:55, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- I think improving start class is just as important. Look at what the massive difference was made from me bringing Go Vacation from start to GA. TheAwesomeHwyh 18:58, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- That is a huge difference... on another note, how do you give someone a barnstar? I learned about them recently and want to give one to Serols for his anti-vandal work (Serols almost always beats me to the reverting)... King of Scorpions (my talk) 19:02, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- So, I just learned about Rollback and it sounds pretty cool... how do you get rollback? King of Scorpions (my talk) 20:22, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- See WP:Barnstars and WP:Rollback. I don't see why you'd need rollback at this point though, you can already revert edits using WP:Twinkle. TheAwesomeHwyh 20:57, 12 February 2020 (UTC)

(2/24/20)
[edit]- @TheAwesomeHwyh:I wasn't on Wikipedia that day, but I am available for almost the rest of the week. Are you available today? Thanks, King of Scorpions 16:00, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, I am. TheAwesomeHwyh 20:37, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- Do you have anything to teach me today, then? I can't think of any questions for you... King of Scorpions 20:39, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- I noticed you've been giving articles project ratings, good job on that. Have you thought about doing a more major expansion of an article? TheAwesomeHwyh 20:42, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- For a second I was confused why we were both editing the same articles at around the same time... then I realized I was looking at my own contributions. Whoops. TheAwesomeHwyh 20:45, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- Quite honestly, I don't feel up to such a task quite yet. Sorry... Maybe in a couple of days? Do you think you will be available for the 26th? King of Scorpions 20:46, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- Of course. But with something like that you can always start with smaller improvements to the article such as grammar or sourcing. TheAwesomeHwyh 20:50, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- Oh. I thought I would have to, like, triple the size of the article and add thirty sources. Maybe I will work on improving some articles. Where do I start? King of Scorpions 20:51, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- Well, first find an article; something that needs a lot of work and is something your interested in. I'd also make sure it was something that you could find a lot of sources for. TheAwesomeHwyh 20:53, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- I have a question for you. Do you ever intend to run for adminship? King of Scorpions 21:03, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- I've thought about it. TheAwesomeHwyh 21:06, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- Judging by your stats (articles created, etc.) and contributions, I think you could probably pass. What would you do as an admin if you passed? King of Scorpions 21:19, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- That's something I'd have to think about. TheAwesomeHwyh 21:21, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- Also, I think there's a lot more to being an admin than just your stats and contributions. TheAwesomeHwyh 21:24, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- That is true. However, you do have a good track record of article creation (especially since you got a DYK for both Frog Detective games) and article improvement (Go Vacation)... King of Scorpions 21:26, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- On a different note- have you thought about what article you'd be interested in expanding? TheAwesomeHwyh 21:28, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- I actually did some major cleanup work to Suraiya (film)... King of Scorpions 21:30, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- Can you read Bengali? TheAwesomeHwyh 21:31, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- No, but I did do some copyediting where the grammar was atrocious. I also used the Visual editor's reference formatter to complete the refs... King of Scorpions 21:33, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- It might be very difficult to expand that article, considering the ref's are in a language you don't speak. (Though it certainly wouldn't be impossible!) TheAwesomeHwyh 21:34, 24 February 2020 (UTC)

- That is true. However, you do have a good track record of article creation (especially since you got a DYK for both Frog Detective games) and article improvement (Go Vacation)... King of Scorpions 21:26, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- Also, I think there's a lot more to being an admin than just your stats and contributions. TheAwesomeHwyh 21:24, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- That's something I'd have to think about. TheAwesomeHwyh 21:21, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- Judging by your stats (articles created, etc.) and contributions, I think you could probably pass. What would you do as an admin if you passed? King of Scorpions 21:19, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- I've thought about it. TheAwesomeHwyh 21:06, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- I have a question for you. Do you ever intend to run for adminship? King of Scorpions 21:03, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- Well, first find an article; something that needs a lot of work and is something your interested in. I'd also make sure it was something that you could find a lot of sources for. TheAwesomeHwyh 20:53, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- Oh. I thought I would have to, like, triple the size of the article and add thirty sources. Maybe I will work on improving some articles. Where do I start? King of Scorpions 20:51, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- Of course. But with something like that you can always start with smaller improvements to the article such as grammar or sourcing. TheAwesomeHwyh 20:50, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- Quite honestly, I don't feel up to such a task quite yet. Sorry... Maybe in a couple of days? Do you think you will be available for the 26th? King of Scorpions 20:46, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- For a second I was confused why we were both editing the same articles at around the same time... then I realized I was looking at my own contributions. Whoops. TheAwesomeHwyh 20:45, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- I noticed you've been giving articles project ratings, good job on that. Have you thought about doing a more major expansion of an article? TheAwesomeHwyh 20:42, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- Do you have anything to teach me today, then? I can't think of any questions for you... King of Scorpions 20:39, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, I am. TheAwesomeHwyh 20:37, 24 February 2020 (UTC)

[edit]@TheAwesomeHwyh: Are you available to mentor me today? King of Scorpions 17:51, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, soon. I just got in a new book that I want to use as a reference for Far Beyond the Stars, so I'm trying to read through the relevant information and add it. TheAwesomeHwyh 19:08, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
- It looks good! King of Scorpions 22:15, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
(2/26/20)
[edit]Thanks! The work I'm doing there is actually the sort of expansion I was talking about earlier. The most major expansion to the article I've done so far only took a day., so I have no doubt that with the proper references, you could do the same sort of expansion. (Though, not everyone has access to a 700+ page book dedicated to the series they're writing about!) TheAwesomeHwyh 17:25, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
- I'm working on gathering refs for my articles... King of Scorpions 18:04, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
- Good. Make sure to check if there are any books or scientific studies on the topic. TheAwesomeHwyh 20:29, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
- Er, academic papers. TheAwesomeHwyh 20:29, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

[edit]@TheAwesomeHwyh: Are you available today? Did you have anything you wanted to mentor me in? Thanks, King of Scorpions 17:50, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
- One thing I've noticed about Wikipedia is the sheer scope of the project-I did a Google search of "Playsaurus" for refs, and the Wikipedia page I created was the third Google hit, behind Playsaurus's website and YouTube account. That's just crazy... King of Scorpions 17:57, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
- Sorry, I've been busy all day. TheAwesomeHwyh 01:02, 28 February 2020 (UTC)
- It's fine. Just curious, what time zone are you in (either in hours off of UTC or by what time your clock says, I can do the math either way)? Also, I think it's crazy how adaptable Wikipedia is-a new user with 1,000 edits can create an article that's in the top 3 Google search results on that topic... King of Scorpions 01:14, 28 February 2020 (UTC)
- I don't even know at the moment, haha. Traveling. TheAwesomeHwyh 02:06, 28 February 2020 (UTC)
Mentorship (March 2020)
[edit](3/1/20)
[edit]Do you have any questions for me today? TheAwesomeHwyh 20:43, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
- I turns out that I was traveling as well! I was visiting relatives, so I wasn't on Wikipedia. I should be more available from now on... King of Scorpions 01:04, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
- Is there anything you wanted to work on today? TheAwesomeHwyh 22:13, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

[edit]I've removed the logo of Cloudstone from the Playsaurus article. I don't think it was necessary to be there. TheAwesomeHwyh 22:15, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
- @TheAwesomeHwyh:So, I noticed in your contributions that you posted on something called WP:ANI. What exactly is that? King of Scorpions 22:27, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
- To quote the top of the page "this page is for discussion of urgent incidents and chronic, intractable behavioral problems." TheAwesomeHwyh 22:30, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
- Are there any policies or such that you want to teach me about? King of Scorpions 22:34, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
- Have you read most of them? TheAwesomeHwyh 22:35, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
- I've read some, I don't know if it could be considered "most" of them. I've read WP:NPOV, WP:Consensus, WP:Civility... basically the major ones. King of Scorpions 22:38, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
- What about WP:V? TheAwesomeHwyh 22:39, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
- I haven't read the whole thing, but I know that's why Wikipedia articles need sources... King of Scorpions 22:41, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
- I would read that through, and then read WP:MOS. TheAwesomeHwyh 23:00, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

[edit]- @King of Scorpions: I'm not sure your response to this Teahouse question about infoboxes was the best. You didn't answer that question at all... and keep in mind that the person who reads the question isn't the only one who reads it- some people may end up with the same question in the future and end up at that answer. TheAwesomeHwyh 19:42, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
- @TheAwesomeHwyh: That's good to know. You do have a point... did you have anything you wanted to teach me today? King of Scorpions 19:44, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
- Not really- just let me know if you have any questions. TheAwesomeHwyh 19:45, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
- @King of Scorpions: Actually, you've been great in terms of anti-vandalism. Have you thought about using some semi-automated tools to help with that, like Huggle? TheAwesomeHwyh
- @TheAwesomeHwyh: Actually, my Windows 10 laptop won't let me run it. I think it thinks that Huggle's a virus... King of Scorpions 19:58, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
- @King of Scorpions: It shows that for everyone. Underneath it there should be a button that says "show more" or something to that effect, if you click that then the option to run it appears. TheAwesomeHwyh 20:01, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
- @King of Scorpions: Is this what you see? TheAwesomeHwyh 20:08, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
- Yes. However, after that, it said that I needed a system administrator to run the program, and I don't know my computer's administrator password. Oh well-I can revert fine with rollback and Twinkle. Those work great-I really don't need more than that for counter-vandalism... King of Scorpions 20:12, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
- I also don't want to clog up my computer with 100 MB of Huggle... King of Scorpions 20:13, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
- 100 MB is tiny though- there's a thousand of those in a gigabyte and most computers nowadays have like, 200 to 1024 gigabytes. I don't know about your computer though, but that seems like a tiny amount to me... TheAwesomeHwyh 20:16, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
- But anyways, have you read the MOS yet? TheAwesomeHwyh 20:17, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
- I did, although I didn't quite understand all of it. King of Scorpions 20:19, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
- That's good. TheAwesomeHwyh 20:22, 10 March 2020 (UTC)

Not really. Pretty much all of it is just stylistic. TheAwesomeHwyh 22:18, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
- Also, this userbox is pretty much unreadable. Maybe use a lighter black or grey? And you're going to have to remove that fair use image, you can't use those in infoboxes. TheAwesomeHwyh 22:21, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
- There are alternate photos of tanks you could use though, I like the one I've added to the side because of how clear it is at smaller sizes and since it has minimal dust blocking the image, but there are tons of others you could use. TheAwesomeHwyh 22:31, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
- Er, no dust, sorry. TheAwesomeHwyh 22:31, 10 March 2020 (UTC)

- Cool. I just have a question for you: is there a way to tell whether vandalism warrants a higher warning than level 1 for a first offense? I'm asking since you are an experienced anti-vandal. King of Scorpions 18:37, 13 March 2020 (UTC)
- I rarely do that unless its something super serious, but use I WP:Huggle most of the time and I haven't actually figured out how to make it give a higher warning than normal. TheAwesomeHwyh 18:43, 13 March 2020 (UTC)
