Recent software changes

  • The latest version of MediaWiki (1.24wmf3) was added to test wikis and MediaWiki.org on May 1. It will be added to non-Wikipedia wikis on May 6, and all Wikipedias on May 8 (calendar).
  • The Compact Personal Bar was added as a beta feature to test wikis and MediaWiki.org on May 1. It will be added as a beta feature to non-Wikipedia wikis on May 6, and to all Wikipedias on May 8. To test it, you can enable it now in your preferences on MediaWiki.org. [1]
  • It is now easier to disable the CodeEditor tool. [2]

VisualEditor news

  • External links in VisualEditor are now in the same light blue color as in MediaWiki. [3]
  • The template tool now tells you if a parameter is obsolete. [4]
  • You can now add "suggested" parameters in TemplateData; VisualEditor will add them like required ones. [5]
  • There is a new type for TemplateData parameters: wiki-file-name for file names. [6][7]
  • Editing formulae in VisualEditor will soon be enabled for all users. [8] [9]
  • You will soon be able to try a new beta feature to edit text in another language. [10] [11]

Future software changes

  • MediaViewer will be enabled for all users on the Japanese (ja), Portuguese (pt), Spanish (es), Swedish (sv) and Telugu (te) Wikipedias on May 8. Feedback is welcome. [12]
  • You can help translate about 100 new language names that have been added to our data source. They are used, for example, as hover text for interwiki links. Send an e-mail to Nemo if you want to help.
  • If you click on a redirect page in your watchlist, you will soon access the redirect itself. [13] [14]

Problems

  • For about 40 minutes around 00:20 UTC on April 29, there were problems with page loading due to high server load.

The article originally contained the word "rape," and the added lines still contain the word. The filter used to exempt cases where the article already had a match, but zzuuzz removed the exemption with the reason that the articles are likely to contain existing problems, and since the filter is not set to disallow, it is more important to catch BLP violations (i.e. prevent false negatives). -- King of ♥ ♦ ♣ ♠ 21:38, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Decision requires revision

Good evening. There is the article about one person. None of the administrators does not want to understand it. It's obvious that the article was created on commercial basis. There is no useful information in the article except insults and black PR. References, such as 3, 4 and 6, do not contain any information about Sergei Vasiliev. Have you read the sources? They are not authoritative. Freelancer wrote an article and we should believe him (reference 9)? Since when, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia for a lie?

Recent software changes

  • The latest version of MediaWiki (1.24wmf4) was added to test wikis and MediaWiki.org on May 8. It will be added to non-Wikipedia wikis on May 13, and all Wikipedias on May 15 (calendar).

VisualEditor news

  • A new citation system in VisualEditor was enabled on the English Wikipedia. It will soon be enabled on more wikis. [16]
  • Templates that were previously broken in VisualEditor should now appear correctly. [17]

Future software changes

  • It will soon be possible to move category description pages. Pages in changed categories will still have to be moved independently. [18] [19]
  • You will soon be able to clear your watchlist with one click or through the API. [20] [21] [22] [23]
  • You will soon be able to link to Flow posts and workflows with Special:Flow. [24] [25]

Recent software changes

  • VisualEditor tabs will no longer appear in namespaces where VisualEditor is disabled. [60] [61]

  • VisualEditor will no longer convert spaces to underscores inside links to pages in namespaces that include spaces in their names. [63]

  • Wikimedia Labs will stop working for about 10 minutes around 18:00 UTC on May 30 due to a server upgrade. [64]

Unilateral unblock

I'm a bit irritated you unblocked Momanogilgiti (talk · contribs) without consultation. I obviously don't know what the CU found or didn't find, but my block was based on behavioral criteria, which I still think were more than obvious. Momanogilgilti's edits had several quite evident and apparently independent intersections with those of Jackolanternstrikes (talk · contribs), who I had blocked just hours earlier, and other earlier socks (both were editing Total Siyapaa, both were harassing User:Darkness Shines, both were not only campaigning for an unblock of ZORDANLIGHTER but claiming themselves to be that user (Jackolanternstrikes by listing his own account on the SPI page, Momanogilgiti by shouting "UNBLOCK ME" on that page), and Momanogilgiti was also inserting himself into the discussion at Talk:2002 Gujarat riots, which had been another of ZORDANLIGHTER's points of interest. How much more obvious does it get? I don't care if checkuser can confirm they actually are that Zordan sockmaster; if they aren't, they are just an obvious troll. Hello! The discussion continues too long. There is a consensus for deletion of the article. Another user, who had not previously participated in the discussion, spoke in favor of delete. And those users, who had offered to keep the article, still did not respond to my and others counter arguments more than a week! You closed Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Paleolibrairan after having warned the user about editing while logged out. If you have a look at the history of David I Orenstein and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/David I Orenstein, you'll note that the user has not taken heed of your warning and continues to edit from IP addresses, in a likely attempt to avoid detection of his self-promotion. Reference desk trolling

Hi KoH,

These all came to my attention by hits on edit filter 527 -- in each, there is a group of 4-6 accounts created within minutes, each of which then proceeds to post one stupid refdesk question. There are a bunch more new ones this morning. When blocked, they all show on the block log as autoblocking the same IP. And I seem to remember that there was a "reference desk troll" vandal earlier.
