File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:RUTT.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. — neuro(talk) 02:03, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

request for help

[edit]

I'm happy to help. What do you need? --Rrburke(talk) 20:32, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK I've edited the page. As for deleting the image RUTT.jpg, I'll tag it for deletion. --Rrburke(talk) 20:52, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There's a problem, though, with the image File:Tlgbrooklyn.jpg. It appears to be from a magazine, and judging from the notice on the image itself, it is copyrighted. This means it'll be deleted shortly, unless:
  • You are the copyright holder and:
  • You can prove it -- and:
  • You're prepared to release the image under the terms of the GFDL
--Rrburke(talk) 20:59, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately the permission of the copyright-holder isn't enough. He or she must agree to let it be published under a free license. Have a look here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:First_steps/License_selection
The file may be deleted for now, but if the copyright-holder agrees to let it be published under a free license, you can upload it again once the permission to publish it has been established. --Rrburke(talk) 21:09, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That's right: it'll still get deleted. You have to bear in mind that anyone could just claim to have the permission of the copyright-holder: so all such claims have to be verified. If the copyright-holder gave you permission to use the image on Wikipedia, you can forward that email to permissions@wikimedia.org with an explanation, but the copyright-holder has to specify the license under which he or she agrees to publish the image. Have a look at this page for more info on licensing: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Licensing

Here's the link to the Wikimedia Commons page on the procedure for verifying permission: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:OTRS

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 20:54, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Tlgrocknrollband.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Tlgrocknrollband.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — neuro(talk) 01:53, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again... You'll also need a non-free use rationale for this file in addition to the license tag, or the file will probably get deleted. Consider using the template {{Template:DVD rationale}} instead of {{Non-free video cover}}, remembering to fill in the appropriate fields (the template documentation contains instructions on how to do that). Once you've added the rationale, you can remove the deletion tag that reads {{di-no fair use rationale|date=6 March 2009}}. Cheers. --Rrburke(talk) 03:28, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think there'll be a problem, but consider adding the page to your watchlist so you'll know if anyone requests clarification or tags the image for deletion. --Rrburke(talk) 20:09, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
