Phillies assessments
Hey KV5, I don't think there is anything that needs to be done in order to update the assessments for the new C-Class. A bot has added the new Category:C-Class Philadelphia Phillies articles so once an article class parameter is updated to C, this will populate. Currently the bot (a different one) that runs the updates seems to be running slow. So I think that is wait & see. Is this isn't what you were asking please let me know? Mitico (talk) 16:45, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
- Alright, I think I have list & FL's working. Once the bot runs the statistics, logs and index should update as expected. Learn something new everyday! Mitico (talk) 17:25, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
- While doing this I found this list: List of Philadelphia Phillies broadcasters. If you're looking for an article to improve, this could be one. Mike Schmidt in 1990 doesn't sound right - but I could be wrong? Mitico (talk) 17:39, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Baseball Newsletter
The Baseball WikiProject Newsletter Issue I – July 2008 | |
This month's newsletter was designed and written by Wizardman, jj137, and Blackngold29. If you would like to contribute to future newsletters, please contact the Baseball WP outreach dept. |
Baseball has a history unlike any other sport. It has been played in countless countries throughout the decades, and it will undoubtedly continue play for many more. On this eve, some the finest players the sport has to offer will take the field at the Yankee Stadium. Four popes spoke there, Pelé scored goals there, "The Greatest [football] Game Ever Played" was battled out there, John Philip Sousa lead a band there, George Costanza worked there; but what do all these events have in common? They fail to reach the level of greatness that the baseball that was played there did. In 1923, a man named Babe Ruth decided to build a new house, and over the years, that house was a home to some of the greatest baseball ever played. If I were to list out all of these great moments, it would be longer than the bill for the New Yankee Stadium. So I'll sum it up by saying that we can remember these great moments by adding them to this place we've gathered at for future generations to read about, to learn about, to dream about; but more importantly we can watch tonight and we can remember how baseball is unlike anything else that we will encounter in our lives. — Blackngold29 |

Re: Newsletter
Yeah that sounds cool. I am hoping that the first one would just be the start and it will grow in the future. That one was made in about a week, so I was hoping that we would get some feedback and then start on next month's earlier. Let me know if you've got anymore ideas! Blackngold29 04:19, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- I originally had intended for a "News around the league" section, but it got removed due to the AS game. So that'll probably be there next time too. Blackngold29 04:25, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

- Any true baseball fan should be up! heh. I get to sleep in, so I'm up most nights. Good to see they might break that 11 year losing streak. Blackngold29 04:34, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- D'oh! That's a good chance blown for each team! Blackngold29 04:37, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- If they blow another chance, wow! Uggla's not doing so hot, I think they're aiming for him. (or they should be) Blackngold29 04:41, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- I missed most of the beginning, but I heard the guys talking on ESPN earlier and they said that the coaches should play the best players rather than worry about hurting people's feelings. That's how they did it back in the day, anyway. Blackngold29 04:45, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- And that is why I love baseball... Two feet from a home run and... nothing. I love it! Blackngold29 04:46, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Just put {{ }} around the title of the page the newsletter is on. So the baseball one above would be: {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Baseball/Outreach/newsletterjuly08}} Hope that helps. Blackngold29 18:46, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
- Surprisingly, it's just that easy. That'll actually work with any page that you want. Blackngold29 18:56, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
- I would recomend renaming the "Features" as "Featured content", that's what most project use. Other than that looks fine to me, I like the "Newsroom" feature. Blackngold29 19:07, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

Like the Blue Jays list above, there appears to be some inconsistencies between Baseball Reference and philadelphia.phillies.mlb.com Specifically, with Myatt, Mauch, Cohen, Smith, Chapman (that's as far back as I went). Cooke is also off but that is probably a typo at Baseball Reference. --maclean 02:56, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
Template
Sure, I can probably help. Basically, you need another level added for minor league players on the 40-man rosters (I think)? I can probably work around with it, but this is a big coding mess... jj137 (talk) 04:40, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
- I can't get it to work correctly. Do you see anything wrong here (with what I implemented)? jj137 (talk) 15:43, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- I'm just not sure. I got the level of the template itself implemented, but the #ifexist (which should only make the added level appear on MiLB players) isn't working correctly. Do you think maybe it would be easier to make a new template specifically for MiLB players on the 40-man roster? jj137 (talk) 15:59, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- True, but we would have to change it anyway if they were promoted. Perhaps it could be identical to the current one as much as possible, so that all we would have to do is change the template name? jj137 (talk) 19:36, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- Exactly. Any ideas as far as what the new template name would be? I can't think of any way to describe the player "situations" in only a few words... jj137 (talk) 00:01, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Re: Phillies
Cool, thanks! I agree with you that sometimes the lists are like "robot" designs. And once the precedent is set it is automatically elected as the only way to do it. When I said your list should be used as a model, I did that because I felt it is currently the best design out of the FLs and FLCs. And hopefully, if we don't get bogged down in cookie-cutter lists, we'll be able to improve on it further someday. Blackngold29 20:31, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, the list should obviously be as close to perfect as possible, but you have to give it some room to breathe. I wrote and nominated Dream Theater's band members for a FL and had I not wrote a ginormous explination about the changing of one little aspect which was dubbed as "the way to do it" after being included in one FL, I don't think it would've done as well as it is. Blackngold29 20:39, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
- Heh, 1000 word minimum please. Blackngold29 20:48, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
Phillies FLC
Hi KV5 - I wanted to take a moment to personally tell you why I've archived your nomination - it was turning into a massive peer review and what I've found lately is that you end up in a situation where supports won't be forthcoming due to TLDR. So, my advice would be to ensure you've finished off all the comments and renominate as soon as you can, that way you'll hopefully end up with only a few minor comments and plenty of support. All the best, The Rambling Man (talk) 11:17, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
Phillies grammar
What you just wrote on my talk page is correct, but it doesn't apply to the sentence you wrote in the Phillies page. Saying "Of those 51 managers, 15 have been "player-managers" is like me saying now "A sandwich today, I ate". It just breaks up a sentence and doesn't make any sense.--Crzycheetah 18:26, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

About G4
In regards to your tagging of K59, he speedy deletion criteria of G4 (reposted deleted material) only applies to material that was deleted after a community discussion, not to material that was speedily deleted. Often recreated material that was speedied can be speedied again for the same reason (as in this case), but it's recreation is a reason in itself to delete. In fact we encourage user to address the problem which lead to the speedy deletion and recreate the article. Jon513 (talk) 15:40, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, to repeat what my fellow admin above said, G4 only applies to material recreated and largely unchanged following a deletion discussion, such as WP:AFD. While the speedy reason for an article being deleted may be the same (i.e. copyright vio), material that has not been deleted as part of a deletion discussion is not eligble for G4. Thanks. WilliamH (talk) 15:50, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
- Also, can I ask you to please reconsider your understanding of G1. Lucas Cruishank might not have satisfied the notability criteria, but it was certainly not "unsalvageably incoherent". Cheers. WilliamH (talk) 19:47, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
- Actually it got deleted because I deleted it. I only contact you because I do not believe you would wish a mistake (however good faith) to inadvertently put off new/inexperienced users. Thanks. WilliamH (talk) 20:01, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion
What criteria would qualify as 'notable' or 'significant' in terms of a musical group? I believe you are the one who wishes to delete the 'Ground:Xero' article. If it's an issue of disk space, I understand. We will re-visit a posting of said article at a later time. There are however those who would argue that we are 'musically' significant. If you would prefer, we will let them speak for us. If this is in fact an open forum, I should think that future articles concerning Ground:Xero will be allowed.

Hello. Please make sure to not bite the newbies. There may or may not be a place for Kevin Rudolf on Wikipedia but if you request its deletion 30 seconds after it was created by someone with no experience of Wikipedia whatsoever, it will just be misconstrued as hostility. Suggestion
I saw the List of Philadelphia Phillies team records up for peer review, I think you're breaking some new ground there, I don't think I've seen any team record FLs before. It's a good list but reading the "Over their 124 completed seasons (through 2007)..." got me thinking that maybe waiting until the end of the regular season (there's only about 10 games left) would make the wording less awkward for the FLC. I'm sure it's nothing major, but you know how picky some of those reviewers can get.
With all the FLs you're working on I think the Phills are well on their way to becoming one of the best covered sports franchises on WP. Over the past few months I've done most of the stadiums that the Pirates have played in; PNC Park should be up for FAC soon. If you ever get to Citizens Bank Park, or any other stadium, I'd be glad to help with anything. The only thing is that I don't any random books about the Phillies laying around like I found good info in for the Bucs' homes; but then again the newer stadiums should have quite a bit on the internet. Blackngold29 03:25, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- I assume you will try to get 2008 Philadelphia Phillies season up to a GA upon their completion of play, do you want me to take a look at it for grammar and stuff? I was thinking of different ways to make the Pirates' article for next season better, since I didn't have the time I thought I would to work on this year's, and then I clicked on the Philly's one and it's pretty much exactly what I had in mind, lol, not that that's a surprise knowing your work. Anyway, it looks good, but an outside view couldn't hurt. Blackngold29 20:56, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
