[edit]Hello, Kevm17 and welcome to Wikipedia! It appears you are participating in a class project. If you haven't done so already, we encourage you to go through our training for students.
If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}}

Before you create an article, make sure you understand what kind of articles are accepted here. Remember: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and while many topics are encyclopedic, some things are not.
Your instructor or professor may wish to set up a course page, and if your class doesn't already have one please tell your instructor about that. It is highly recommended that you place this text: {{Educational assignment}}
on the talk page of any articles you are working on as part of your Wikipedia-related course assignment. This will let other editors know this article is a subject of an educational assignment and aid your communication with them.
We hope you like it here and encourage you to stay even after your assignment is finished! ~ Ase1estecharge-paritytime 12:37, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
Please don’t bite me, I’m a newbie!
I’m a university student in a Wikipedia Education class, and I’m currently learning how to contribute to Wikipedia.
I am approaching my subject in good faith.
If you have any concerns or questions, my tutor’s name is sun_jess (talk · contribs). Thanks!
Articles about species
[edit]Hi Kevin,
Welcome to Wikipedia!
A few hints on writing Wikipedia articles on species.
1. The definitive article is not used in front of a binomial, so not “the Passer domesticus feeds on ....” but Passer domesticus feeds on”.
2. Binomials and generic, i.e. genus names, should be italicised.
3. You go not have to use American spellings, if you are Australian use Australian English unless you are writing about a North American person or company.
4. Once you have named the species in a section you may use an abbreviated version of the genus name; e.g. “the house sparrow (Passer domesticus) is generally replaced by the Eurasian tree sparrow (P. montanus) as the urban sparrow in much of eastern Asia”. You can also use pronouns to vary the prose.
I have edited the pufferfish article, I hope it makes it flow better.
