[edit]Hey, Evan!
I think your sections are great! They are informative, easy to read, and I think all important information has been covered. I just made a couple edits, mostly regarding grammar. Here are a few suggestions:
Intervention section:
- Link speech-language pathologist to the speech-language pathology page
- Maybe mention a couple compensatory behaviours which may manifest in response to VFP
Voice Therapy section:
- Maybe quickly explain what forced adduction is so that it is easier to understand how this results in additional stress on the VF
Hard Glottal Attacks section:
- Link falsetto to the Falsetto page
Abdominal Breathing section:
- Maybe quickly explain what abdominal breathing or abdominal placement of breath means
- Create a link to the Diaphragmatic breathing page
Lip and Tongue Trills section:
- Maybe explain subglottal pressure
- Create a link to Subglottis page
- Also, in this section you refer to “subglottal pressure”, while in the Hard Glottal Attacks section you refer to “air pressure”, which I think refers to subglottal pressure as well? Maybe just make this a bit more clear
Surgical Intervention section:
- Link larynx to the Larynx page
GREAT work! :) LisaMart86 (talk) 19:52, 29 October 2016 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Evan,
You did a really great job! Your section is rich in information and well structured. You incorporated your resources well into the article and all the information is pertinent as you focused on the main points. I also like how you gave a concise description of each surgical procedure and explained the effects of the interventions. My main recommendation would be to be careful in using technical terms that might be hard to understand to someone who isn't familiar with voice terminology (eg., glottis, subglottal pressure, falsetto). This could be done by simplifying the vocabulary into layman terms, or adding links to other Wikipedia pages for reference. Otherwise, here are a few suggestions for minor changes:
- Consider adding one or two examples of what you mean by compensatory behaviours (in the first paragraph).
- Under Half-Swallow Boom, I think you could remove the "also" to make the sentence simpler.
- Under abdominal breathing, consider rephrasing the (very well-constructed!) phrase "An abdominal placement of the breath aids in efficient vocal function..." to make the meaning more transparent for a lay person (e.g., "Abdominal (belly) breathing aids...")
- Under lip/tongue trills, consider adding a short description of what trills are. Also, I believe you meant to say "generating" rather than "generation" or maybe "result IN the generation OF...".
- A few comments about the use of conjunctions. Under surgical intervention, I would rephrase the sentence "This allows the paralyzed vocal fold to make contact with the alternate fold and more efficiently produce phonation" to make it clear that the better phonation is a direct result of the vocal folds coming in contact with each other (so not using solely "and" between the two pieces of information). As well, I think the use of "but" in the following sentence could benefit from being explained to give the context/reason for its use: "Results prove to be both safe and effective, but may last anywhere from 2 to 12 months". So you might want to rephrase the sentence to emphasize the variability of the effect in terms of time, its short/long duration, or its impredictability... whichever aspect is behind the use of a "but".
Overall, your section is excellent! Don't hesitate to ask questions if my comments are not clear enough. Way to go! Mimidescolibris (talk) 01:44, 1 November 2016 (UTC)
