[edit]Hello, I'm Tow. I wanted to let you know that I undid one of your recent contributions, such as the one you made with this edit to Edinburgh International College, because it didn’t appear constructive to me. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. TOW talk 07:10, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, I'm Materialscientist. I noticed that you made a change to an article, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Materialscientist (talk) 13:18, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Mining accident may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.
- List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
- es|"Estamos bien en el refugio, los 33"}}'' (English: ''"We are well in the shelter, the 33"''))|the note sent by the Chilean miners in 2010: ''"We are well in the shelter, the 33"'')]]

Sandbox/Formatting
[edit]Hi, I've done a quick fix. Have a look at it, I'll finish off and give some decent feedback here during my lunchtime (12:00 BST). Regards, Martin of Sheffield (talk) 09:34, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
- Right, I've made a few changes! Please do not be alarmed, in part this reflects my experience and opinion, this is your sandbox so feel free to revert or delete anything you don't like. Quite seriously, I will not be upset, sandboxes are for experimentation. Before I get stuck into a description of the changes there are a couple of minor points to mention. Please use four tildes to sign and do not simply copy a signature over. It's not being picky, the tilde system puts hyperlinks in place, copying doesn't. The other request is to leave categories commented out whilst in the sandbox. If you don't they your sandbox will be added to the pages!
- I've moved the See Also and External Links below References, this seems to be common.
- I found the formatting for making notes, citations and bibliography as subsections of References on a page another editor built. I liked it and have adopted it. See History of Rochester, Kent for an alternative.
- Editors differ over specific cite templates. Personally I use the common citation template, other editors prefer cite XXX. I've left things as you did it. If you do use the cite XXX templates you ought to include a line "| ref = harv" to force Harvard citations to be used. template:citation does this automatically for you.
- All of the citations will extract a year from a date, but it can help in understanding the references if the year is explicit, so I've added them.
- Always supply an author= or last= line. For people I prefer last= and first=, but for bodies corporate you can use the simple author. This field is used to link the citations to the bibliography and so is important.
- I personally find it easier to find and maintain a seperate bibliography. Other editors prefer in-line. If you are using Harvard citations they need to be seperate as here.
- The sfn template does a lot for you. As well as formatting the citation it collects identical citations together without the need to mess about with ref names. Have a look at Richard Watts where all those Hinkley citations needed a different name and compare it to Felling mine disaster where the Hodgson citations were handled automatically.
- I've added a silly efn (Extended Foot Note) note to show the syntax. Again, use of the efn template does a lot for you, including sending it to the right list.
- Think carefully about the Bloomberg citations. The information has already moved off the page, generally rapidly updating pages such as these make poor citations for an encyclopedia. Someone may be reading your work ten years from now and want to check the option details.
- I'm concious that this is now longer than the article, but I hope it helps. I'll watch you user page, so ask any further questions here. Once again, please feel free to do as you wish in your sandbox, including changing anything I did. Regards, Martin of Sheffield (talk) 12:05, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
Block appeal
[edit]Kayeane (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
I appeal to unblocked my page for the reason that I didn't use multiple accounts. I just made legitimate contributions in different articles. I am not a sock puppet
Decline reason:
Checkuser block on a banned user. Please email Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee to make further appeals. If there are any more unblock requests here, this page may be locked to prevent further editing. Jehochman Talk 23:10, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
