Thanks for your note
[edit]You have no idea how perfectly timed your note was—I had worked on providing feedback to three different articles over the weekend, and hadn't heard a peep from a single editor. That was, I confess, a bit discouraging. Your note perked me up. There is no deadline, so no need to rush, feel free to get to it when you get to it, but I'm happy to hear it you plan to continue. As you can see I started converting some of your refs, but did not do all of them. It may be obvious to you what neds to be done, it may not. Please ask if you aren't sure, and I'll explain exactly how I converted each one.--SPhilbrickT 11:54, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks again and I think I'm done
[edit]I really appreciate all your help. I've now formatted all the references and think I'm done. Just need to figure out how to change the page title and put the page live. I'll read around and try to figure it out, but if you notice that the page is still a working document could you give me some further guidance. Thanks for making this an easy and enjoyable experience! KathleenWL (talk) 08:54, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
Converting publications list into Wikipedia formatted citations
[edit]I thought I'd summarize the steps to improving the publications citations. First, have three tabs (or windows open):
- One with the page for editing
- one with Pubmed
- one with Citation Wizard
- Then copy and paste a publication title (e.g. Rostral optic tectum adopts a caudal phenotype following ectopic Engrailed expression) into the PubMed search box and search.
- Copy the PubMed ID from the search results (e.g 8805331)
- Paste into Citation Wizard, click submit
- Copy the results shown in the box (e.g. {{cite journal |author=Logan ...)
- add an asterisk (to create a bullet) to the article, and paste the citation)
- Preview, then save (preview optional)
- return to step 1
This process doesn't always pick up a doi—I don't know whether that means there is no doi, or it needs to be found elsewhere.
Hope this helps--SPhilbrickT 12:41, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
I've completed the page but still have a question
[edit]Hi again. I've completed the page, but it still needs to be reviewed. I think I've correctly requested this. But one thing I noticed is that if I search for "Andrew Lumsden" in wiki I see only a page about another Andrew Lumsden. How do I ensure that my page gets "found" as well? Thanks again your help! - If you have a question, the best thing to do is place a {{helpme}} tag on your talk page, and then ask your question. This will alert other users and they'll come and help. Anyway, I've reviewed your article, so it doesn't matter now I suppose. Chevymontecarlo 11:03, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
Talkback
[edit]You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
I replied to your request for feedback. I hope the comments/suggestions are useful. If you have a question, comment or query, please send me a message. Thanks! Chevymontecarlo 11:02, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
Hatnotes added
[edit]I see you figured out what to do about the title, so people will find the correct one. When there are two such names, we also use a hatnote. I added a hatnote to each article. If there are three or more, we use a disambiguation page, but we don't need to worry about that now.
Nice job.--SPhilbrickT 19:14, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
Huge thank you
