Speedy deletion nomination of Katherine Lorenz
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Katherine Lorenz requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Re: Katherine Lorenz
[edit]Hi Katebackstage,
It wasn't the link that caused the copyright infringement. The problem was that so much of the text in the article is an exact copy of the LinkedIn paragraph titled "Katherine Lorenz's Summary". The key to writing an article on Wikipedia which will stay is to write in your own words. You cannot copy sentences verbatim. Also be aware of these following rules linked in blue: Wikipedia: Notability, Wikipedia: Reliable sources and Wikipedia:Spam. If you recreate the article in accordance with these rules it shouldn't be deleted again. Regards, GizzaTalk © 03:55, 6 February 2013 (UTC)

Katherine Lorenz (born December 07, 1978) is the president of the Cynthia and George Mitchell Foundation[1], a grantmaking foundation focusing on environmental sustainability in Texas[2]. In late 2012, Forbes Magazine named Katherine "Ones to Watch" as an up-and-coming face in philanthropy, a select group who are using their money for good in distinctive and innovative ways.[3]
Katherine serves on the board of directors of the Environmental Defense Fund[4], the Institute for Philanthropy[5], Puente a la Salud Comunitaria, the Endowment for Regional Sustainability Science, the Association of Small Foundations, and the Amaranth Institute.[6]
Katherine is a member of the Global Philanthropists Circle of the Synergos Institute, and sits on the Council on Foundations Committee on Family Philanthropy. She also serves on the National Academies' Roundtable of Science and Technology for Sustainability.
Career
[edit]Katherine formerly worked as Deputy Director for the Institute for Philanthropy, whose mission is to increase effective philanthropy in the United Kingdom and internationally[7]. Prior to that, Lorenz lived in Oaxaca, Mexico for almost six years where she co-founded Puente a la Salud Comunitaria, a non-profit organization working to advance food sovereignty and eradicate malnutrition in rural Oaxaca through the integration of amaranth into the local diet.[8]
Before founding Puente, she spent two summers living in rural villages in Latin America with the volunteer program Amigos de las Américas and later served on their program committee and as a trustee of the Foundation for Amigos de las Americas.
Education
[edit]Katherine holds a B.A. in Economics with a minor in Spanish from Davidson College.
