Mentorship

[edit]

Hello Kat.pambid, I'm Huon, your Co-op mentor. You said you needed somebody to help you improve the page you're creating. You're right, that page indeed needs improvement. The most immediate issue is whether Jacky Xu is notable enough for an article in the first place. Wikipedia measures notability by the amount of coverage in reliable third-party sources a subject has received, such as articles about him written by newspapers or reputable magazines. A quick Google News search for "Jacky Xu" found a Chinese fashion company CEO of that name, but I don't think that's the Jacky Xu you are writing about.

The article currently only links to three websites of companies Xu is affiliated with. Those are not independent sources on Xu and do not help establish notability; Wikipedia content should be based on what others have reported about him, not on what he (or his employers) has to say about himself. Also, those sources don't even confirm the specific statements they're cited for.

If you cannot provide newspapers or reputable magazines that discuss Xu in some detail, I'm afraid we'll have to conclude he's not notable enough to be the subject of a Wikipedia article. You may want to write about the other Jacky Xu I found instead, who seems to have a somewhat better claim to notability. Huon (talk) 00:01, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! Thanks for contributing your time to learning contributing to Wikipedia through mentorship at The Co-op. The Co-op is actually a very new project on Wikipedia, and you've been a great help in helping us improve it so far. We want to get your feedback on your use of the Co-op in addition to your experience with your mentor and editing Wikipedia generally. When you are able, please take the Qualtrics survey here to give us your feedback. With your help, we can make the Co-op and mentorship helpful for different needs, and expand the space for many editors to use.
