Taxonomic controversy

[edit]

If you want to see real taxonomic controversy see Talk:Bengalia, esp. the history ! It is interesting that scientists often come here only to do the fire fighting rather than avoiding it by educating the public (and professional scientists - who often think they are beyond learning) in the first place ! Shyamal (talk) 03:33, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of H P Gandhi, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://wgbis.ces.iisc.ernet.in/biodiversity/sahyadri_enews/newsletter/issue26/article2/art2.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 07:04, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Creation of an article under this name has been blocked because it had been created, deleted, and twice re-created, each time using the copyrighted text found here (language which was grossly inappropriate anyway). If you feel this person is genuinely notable, I suggest you create a new, non-copyright-violating, non-promotional article under H. P. Gandhi (with the full stops), which would have been the proper name anyway. --Orange Mike | Talk 13:21, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A first sketch of an article has been created at H. P. Gandhi. Please read our guidelines on such topics as neutral point of view, to avoid creating a hagiograpy; and our guidelines on citations, to lead you in adding additional sources to the single weak source currently provided. --Orange Mike | Talk 13:49, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The bibliography was the least important thing you could have added. We need a clear outline of his life: the schools he attended and taught at, etc. (The old article was filled with abbreviations and the like.) We need some evidence (not merely bald assertions) as to the importance of his career, with links to articles about him as opposed to by him, to establish notability. The bibliography needs reformatting, too; journal titles are not italicized, there are no wikilinks to journals which have Wikipedia articles about them, etc. Is there an article about Gandhi in the Gujarati Wikipedia with useful information? --Orange Mike | Talk 18:07, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Ltte soldier killed by cw.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Ltte soldier killed by cw.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 04:28, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Indian rhinoceros

[edit]

Hi. I notice you have included demographic info in the Wikipedia article “Indian Rhinoceros”. The table might need updating. There are changes in all three populations of rhinoceroses in Nepal; severe declines due to poaching have been reported: the Bardia population is down to around 30 individuals; the Chitwan population has fallen to 372 in 2005, and was estimated at 408 in March 2008 – but poaching is continuing again.

Hi. When you recently edited H. P. Gandhi, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Wilson College and Pratapgarh (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hello Karthickbala. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Western Ghats, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Please go through WP:NOTRS and in general, please read WP:V and WP:RS  Abhishek  Talk 16:10, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Abhishek, edits I made in Western Ghats page is neither have distorted view nor a unreliable information. It is just a report of descriptions of new algal species from Western Ghats. It is same as report of new amphibians in fauna section of the same article. Me being the author does not mean that it is distorted. I have made many of these kind of edits in article related to diatoms, new species description and Western Ghats in Tamil and English Wikis. Let me know if you need any more clarifications. Thanks--Karthickbala (talk) 16:19, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You have a conflict of interest with the article and my message above clearly explains why your edit was reverted.  Abhishek  Talk 16:55, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Terribly short notice: Boulder WLM on 15 September

[edit]

Apologies for getting this out so late, but this is all Pharos' fault. Please blame everything on Pharos.

That said, this message is just to let you know that we're having a photo hunt for Wiki Loves Monuments at 11:00 in the morning of Saturday the 15th in Boulder, probably somewhere around CU, though the exact location hasn't yet been decided. Since you have previously attended or expressed interest in other meetups in the area, hopefully you might be able to come.

Please sign up as soon as possible if you're interested; we'd love to have you along to help postpone the squirrel apocalypse. Or at least get some decent images. -— Isarra 05:02, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
