Hello from EddieSegoura (Re: Admin School)

[edit]

Hey Eddie, we're starting up an admin training school at Esperanza soon, and WikiFanatic has made training admin candidates his primary focus on WP if you're not interested in joining us. Just thought you'd like to know! karmafist 07:46, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey karmafist! I'd definitely like to join Admin School. I need to learn the ins and outs before I get nominated again. Please keep Me informed. -- Eddie 12:16, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I put My name on this list. I hope You get back to Me on it, thanks. -- Eddie 12:55, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

[edit]

I didn't catch it before the archive buit... no problem. You didn't do anything wrong with me. :) Sometimes you do need to be away from the more annoying stuff. It's not like you're getting paid :O gren グレン 13:59, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Karmafist, thank you so much for your support for my RfA! You were the first person that got me thinking about giving it a second go...and here we are! I hope your wikibreak refreshes your batteries. You are seriously needed around here! Don't let all the chaos of the recent events lead you to forget that! Thank thanky, Babajobu 21:05, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Barn Award

[edit]

I just came accross your barn award page, and noticed the notice. HOW can you stop giving barns! I will never see the light! And it burns! Ian13ID:540053 22:05, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

zOMG!!! It's a barnstar!!!

A barn for your barnstars

You're gonna need a whole barn to hold all those barnstars. By the way, I wish you luck in the Arbcom elections. I would vote for you, but my account is a few days too young. --TantalumTelluride 04:02, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would also vote too, but I am facing that same issue that you must have a really old account. Ian13ID:540053 17:06, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Affirmative on that

[edit]

Hi, Karmafist! Yes, I'd be very happy to join. Just let me know what's involved first, so I know what I'm getting into! I'm not an expert Wikian, I just started last month, but I catch on quickly. To answer your question, I work for the Weare Free Press [1] and gosh, we're looking for reporters and even someone to sell ads part-time, so if you're interested.... :-) Nhprman 03:14, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your reform proposals

[edit]

I can't see how they could be rehabilitated without being junked entirely. Too much legalism, not enough encyclopedism. Dispute resolution and policymaking needs to be fast and simple, even if it means the occasional mess. Oh, and I'm considering withdrawing the "levelheaded" compliment because of your fair use userbox thingy. :p Johnleemk | Talk 02:44, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Don't take that too seriously, it was just a joke. :p Johnleemk | Talk 08:32, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see. I don't really know, but I don't think staying in the election would hurt (unless you have a very thin skin, but in which case, the damage has probably been done). Johnleemk | Talk 08:45, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Paper Answer

[edit]

To answer your question - it's pretty much part-time...and pays like it! Though my technical title is "editor," it's pretty much me and the publisher with a couple of stringers. Nhprman 15:30, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd be interested in exploring that. It would be strictly commission, and in the four towns. It would be simply touting the paper to businesses, but it could be more involved. Contact me via email through the paper's website and we'll talk further. Nhprman 19:27, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ZOMG!

[edit]

You did it, 1000 welcomes! You are crazy! the wub "?!" RFR - a good idea? 18:08, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi karmafist- Looking at your userpage I suspect that Millwall FC may not be a prime concern of yours (nor is it one of mine...!) but since you are the initiator, I thought you ought to be aware that User : Lion King seems to have been utilising at least one sockpuppet on Requests for comment-Millwall F.Cin a rather unsubtle attempt to manipulate opinion. The evidence for this is, I feel, quite compelling (see previous link and my talk page), although I must stress that it is circumstantial. He has however 'discussed' (!) the issue with me (in his usual robust fashion!), we have come to a resolution of sorts, and I am happy to let the matter drop; I didn't actually intend to make any fuss in the first place, and this appears to be a one-off. Anyway, thought you should be aware of it. Cheers, Badgerpatrol 05:26, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Arbcom candidate userbox

[edit]

Greetings. I've made a new userbox for arbcom candidates to show on their userpages so that visiters will know they're running.

{{User arbcom nom}}

If you'd like to place it on your userpage, feel free. Regards, – Quadell (talk) (bounties) 02:22, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I don't know why you accused me of vandalizing this template. It's difficult to work out what to put in when one removes advocacy of illegal practises from a template, so I exercised my imagination and thought up something inoffensive and legal. Sorry if it wasn't to your taste. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 04:21, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Taste is irrelevant here, censorship of other peoples' views is the issue here. karmafist 05:09, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Undeletion

[edit]

On January 10, User:Tony Sideaway deleted two templates I created, {{User Anti-UN}} and {{User Anti-ACLU}} The text for these were "This user thinks the United Nations stinks" and "This user thinks the ACLU stinks", respectively. Per Tony's explanation at Wikipedia:Deletion_review#Various_attack_templates he felt these were "attacks" on these organizations. While I disagree and believe POV's like this should be allowed on userpages, I contacted Tony on the wikipedia-IRC channel and said I would change the text on these templates to read "This user does not support the United Nations" and "This user does not support the ACLU", thus conforming them to his policy. He did not respond to a direct request to undelete these templates so that I can modify them as described. I am a very weak programmer and it would be much easier for me to modfiy the already existing templates (which took me an embarassingly long amount of time to create) than to create new ones from scratch. Per Wikipedia's Wikipedia:Undeletion policy, I would like to request that you undelete those template pages so that I may modify them. To paraphrase a famous quote: "I know you may not agree with what I say, but I hope you will fight for my right to say it." Thank you. Lawyer2b 05:56, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. For what it's worth, I think you should feel proud for doing that. Also ironically, if fighting for free speech/expression was all the ACLU did, I'd be their biggest supporter. Lawyer2b 12:11, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Karmafist, I've blocked this user indef, Its the "pork vandal". Which has created user names, to vandalize article's with the word pork some how. If you think this is just a coincidence then the subject will be dropped by me right away :-D. If not If you do not object I'm going to unblock and then block the vandal indef again. Thanks KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 02:55, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No worries. I believe we sent each other messages at the same time. I was on my way to unblock when I got your second message. Thanks for answering so quickly happy editing. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 03:01, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AMA vote

[edit]

You have voted Neutral on the vote currently held at WP:AMA. I have voted Oppose, request split of voting. I suggest you do the same (or just Oppose), otherwise, the rules will pass without objection (it's not clear consensus, but first past the post), and all parts that are good from the current proposal can be accepted, and the others wiped out. Thanks — Ian Manka Questions? Talk to me! 04:14, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your message

[edit]

Sorry for not replying earlier, I wasn't really sure what to say in response to your first message, and besides I've had a million and one things to do recently. Anyway there's a lot of things to be positive about, Red is back (even if he has withdrawn from the ArbCom election), Durin looks to still be around to me, Essjay is probably being more sensible than anyone by not getting involved in stuff. Plus Wikipedia passed 900,000 articles recently (not that anyone seemed to notice in all the hubbub), we're still almost as accurate as Brittanica, and whatever the failings of the ArbCom elections, at least they'll make it more democratic than it has been for the past few months. the wub "?!" RFR - a good idea? 13:06, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I think I've come up with a compromise for the userbox conflict, basically to delete all the current userbox templates (bear with me) and replace them with equivalents like on Essjay's page using Template:Userbox and a bot. I think this has a number of advantages, but I'm still thrashing out the details. Just wondering (since I haven't really been following Wikiproject Userboxes that closely, only the conflicts around it) has this been suggested before? And what do you think?

Apology? For what? Anyway I'll get back to you properly later today or tomorrow, when I've had a chance to think about some things. For now I really need to do some work. I'm supposed to be on a Wikibreak here :-) the wub "?!" RFR - a good idea? 14:08, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

hi

[edit]

You don't like me, I don't like you. You went against the whole point of the Antidote RFC, and failed to comment on the extremely unfair block of Poetlister, and just let everything slide. I saw an attempt to strip you of adminship, and I was all prepared to support it.

I wasn't swayed on to your side because you went up against Snowspinner. While he has a bad rap, I've had nothing to do with him, and that didn't convince me one way or the other. But what struck me was your support of Mistress Selina Kyle. She is a good user, indeed an exemplary user who all other users could look up to. A role model if you like. And your support of her, sticking your neck out though it may be, shows you to be an individual, someone who is prepared to think for themselves. And while I might not agree with every individual decision that you make (such as the two above) I can say that you are prepared to think independently. That you won't just write "delete nn per X" in an AFD, and that you'll think for yourself.

I for one think that MSK could learn a lot from you, and, presuming that she gets herself unbanned, I would like to nominate her for adminship. This may seem premature to some, since she hasn't been editing for long, but I think that she has shown all of the traits that would make a great administrator of Wikipedia. She is extraordinarily loyal, committed to accuracy, accountability and transparency. I can't imagine why anyone who is focussed on the good of Wikipedia (as opposed to a few egos) would want to get rid of her. She is unbelievably good for Wikipedia. That she happens to expose a few abusive admins is a good thing. We shouldn't have abusive admins on here, full stop.

I don't expect you to do anything to try to get her unblocked. I think that that has to go through the appropriate channels. In a lot of ways, it would be better if she stayed banned, because it just highlights the corruption. But once she is unbanned, which I think is very likely to happen, I'd like to go through the process towards making her an administrator. It won't happen straight away, but I think that you could make a good tutor for her, and show her the ropes and lead her as a kind of student for her to show her how to do things.

We will have a new arbitration team shortly, and MSK's case will be heard with the new team. Hopefully then they will hear her case.

I also think that there is probably enough evidence now to warrant a request for de-sysop for Kelly Martin, SlimVirgin and Snowspinner. What do you think? Zordrac (talk) Wishy Washy Darwikinian Eventualist 15:12, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Icons

[edit]

Fear not, I think this is just a server issue as I have seen icons sporadically disappearing and later working just fine. Proably work better in the mourning.--God of War 04:28, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
