Re: Recording Sessions for American Gangster
[edit]Yea, I checked other recording session section and they're pretty much just quotes from the artist about how they recorded the album. i looked through old xxl archives and shit but couldn't really find anything.....Bren202 10:07, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
- i just threw this together.....iono if its any good, but yea
Jay-Z originally stated he recorded nine tracks for the album,[1] but the final track listing accumulated fifteen overall cuts (two bonus tracks). Jay-Z would have the film—American Gangster—playing on the monitors above the booth to keep him inspired.[2] In an interview with MTV producer L.V. from The Hitmen said:[3]
Jay would have the beats...He'd do the record, and he'd send it back to us. We'd fill in the blanks as far as making them full records. From having live horns, live strings, live drummers. This percussion dude, he was coming in with bottles, banging on bottles, just sprinkles of sh--. We went all out. We brought in musicians to bring it out. Jay probably just heard a sample and some drums. Once we got the vocals back, we brought in all the extra candy
....i took the first sentence from the background section.....iono if you feel like it would go good on the page post it up... --Bren202 01:16, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
iono i posted it under distribution the first time, but distribution prbly would cover more mso i guess just under iTunes?→Bren202 02:00, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- I read somewhere that they pulled it because the label heads felt like itunes took to much of the money and they refused to give them the rights so they would lose money. i also read that labels are trying to start there own online music store and stop giving itunes the rights to their music. i dont noe if it was true...doesnt really have anything to do with anything i was just saying....i also read that jay was the one who leaked the american gangster screener online because he tried to audition for the role of frank lucas before they signed denzel so he got pissed leaked the movie and made an album to try to take away from the movies sales or sumthin....prbly not true since it was on a blog and i didnt hear nothing after that...but they did say they had a source...once again just saying--Bren202 02:13, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- agreed--Bren202 02:20, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
agreed, i was just looking at curtis and thinking american gangster's page was better--Bren202 02:27, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- i guess....im probably biased since i hate 50 cent and thought that was the worst album since the massacre or maybe t.i. vs t.i.p. either way. i was checking out the documentary page that page really murdered all others....--Bren202 02:34, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

American Gangster GA on hold
[edit]So I've been improving the article to get it to GA (check the American Gangster talk page) and i wrote a second paragraph for the lead section....
Music critics praised American Gangster[4] and noted that Jay-Z was trying more complex lyrics.[5] The album was released to significant commercial success, despite being pulled from the iTunes Store,[6] selling 425,861 copies in it's first week and debuting at number one on the Billboard 200.[7]
I thought it could have been improved with some info about the album re-instating him as an important figure in hip-hop (like how people were saying he fell off after Kingdom Come) but couldnt find anything.....help?
p.s. the refs will work once they are posted to the page--Bren202 (talk) 02:42, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
PASSED! Yup, American Gangster is now a GA article--Bren202 (talk) 07:04, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Yea no problem, I still wanna post that second paragraph to the lead just need like another couple sentences--Bren202 (talk) 07:28, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Yea I noticed, I would expand but i just don't know what to put....whatever--Bren202 (talk) 07:35, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
The Cool
[edit]I was trying to clean-up Lupe Fiasco's The Cool and i was just wondering if you know where i can find the sample info--Rebel Without a Pause (talk) 05:37, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
- yea, there's not a lot of info on the album I don't even know if the producer list is right i just added the names based on the composer credits--Rebel Without a Pause (talk) 05:47, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
- haha, originally I was just going to add the songwriter credits but i ended up re-writing the whole page, I guess if you wanna try for GA, or at least B, I'm down--Rebel Without a Pause (talk) 06:03, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
I wrote something for the page but i don't know where i should put it. I was thinking of adding it to recording sessions or replacing recording sessions with it. Maybe adding it in concept or maybe it's not even needed.
Lupe Fiasco's The Cool has been noted for it's darker feel compared to Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor.[8] During the recording of the album, Lupe Fiasco's father died,[9] his good friend Stack Bundles died, and his business partner and mentor—Charles “Chilly” Patton—was sentenced to 44 years in prison.[10] When asked about the albums dark side, Lupe Fiasco replied:
Oh yeah. A lot of loss. I lost my father, I lost my business partner to prison, and I lost some friends. It was a very dark period. It still is in some aspects, but you know, I’m kind of coming out of it. But especially during the time that the album was being cooked, in my head it was a very dark kind of period.[9]
What do you think?--Rebel Without a Pause (talk) 06:47, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
- added. still don'tknow but ima just leave it--Rebel Without a Pause (talk) 07:04, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I'd just like to start off by saying that I think that you've helped out alot with your contributions towards Hip hop articles and that you seem like a great editor. I'm not sure if your editing anymore, but if you are would you be willing to help me out ? I'm planning to get the Doggystyle article up to at least Good Article status at first, then maybe Featured. I notcied that you had a significant role on getting the American Gangster page to GA class, so I think your help would be invaluable to Doggystyle. I'm not sure if your a big Snoop fan or whatever but I know you must be a big Hip hop fan, so I think you'd be a great help with improving the page, so are you up for it ? - Guerilla In Tha Mist (talk) 14:21, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
- That's cool. If you ever get back into editing and want me to work on some articles with you, just drop me a line. Later. - Guerilla In Tha Mist (talk) 15:47, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Election 2012 discussion
[edit]Hi Karma. You might be interested in commenting in this discussion about how to round percentages in election articles. It started when someone asked whether 47.65 (Romney's percentage) should be rounded down to 47.6 or up to 47.7. (His percentage has changed since then, by the way.) Take care. --76.189.101.221 (talk) 05:10, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
- This editor is just going around to several talk pages and saying "You might be interested in this discussion". He's trying to gather support for his side of the argument, while entirely misrepresenting the issue. The issue is not about rounding 47.65%, as he claims. The raw percentage is 47.647% to three places, which clearly should be rounded to 47.6%, and not rounded twice, as he wishes to do. Just a heads up. KyuubiSeal (talk) 16:12, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
- "going around to several talk pages"? Actually, I initiated one invite. This one. I also made JayJasper aware of the discussion, but that was only in response to a comment he had initially left on my talk page. By the way, as my above comment clearly shows, I in no way attempted to sway Karma's opinion one way or the other. I simply let them know about the discussion. Ironically, as shown above, it is it was Kyuubi who clearly attempted to get Karma to take their side. Anyway, if Kyuubi can show us the "several" they're claiming, I'd be glad to apologize. But I am not aware of any others. In any case... Karma, the discussion has already been closed and it was determined that there was consensus for the currently deployed method. Have a good week. :) --76.189.101.221 (talk) 01:40, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
- Upon checking again, the posts I was thinking of were more about AndyTheGrump than the discussion itself. Sorry for my mistake. Anyway, the users you have contacted are: KarmaLoop, JayJasper Ironholds, Joe Decker, Jayron32, and Seb az86556. As for "I simply let him know about the discussion.", you completely misrepresented the issue. We all know that 46.65% should be rounded to 46.7%, the debate is actually about whether that is the correct method to use for the infobox figure. In your post, you make zero mention of double rounding, the crux of this entire discussion. I'd argue that's biased by omission. And KarmaLoop, could you clarify what happened to the thread? I know it was locked due to some consensus, but I can't tell what the current consensus even is; both sides claim it to be their POV. KyuubiSeal (talk) 02:40, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you for the apology. --76.189.101.221 (talk) 03:04, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
- I honestly have no idea what happened to it. I commented on it twice and saw people felt otherwise about how it should be rounded and I digressed. I haven't checked it since then. —Karma (talk) 03:19, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
- (with respect to your most recent edit) It is very different to seek out editors and try to sway than than to point out that it's happening, along with a very obvious bias of omission. KyuubiSeal (talk) 03:22, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
- Kyuubi, you apologized. I said thank you. And now you come back and start up again. Move on. --76.189.101.221 (talk) 03:35, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
- Note that this IP troll has still refused to provide the slightest evidence for the supposed 'precedent', as repeatedly requested, and seem to be trying to divert attention from this by posting nonsense like this on multiple users' talk pages... AndyTheGrump (talk) 03:37, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
- Alright, I'm sick of your games, I'm cutting to the point. If you look at my post, it contains an apology, but it is not just one. It has a complaint about you misrepresenting the issue, which you don't appear to have even glanced at. You are acting as if my post is merely "Oh, I was wrong about this entire discussion", which it clearly is not. KyuubiSeal (talk) 03:43, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
- Yup - a classic troll technique... AndyTheGrump (talk) 03:49, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
