Welcome to Wikipedia!
[edit]Hello, Karlcremin, and welcome to Wikipedia! Wikipedia is one of the world's fastest growing internet sites. We aim to build the biggest and most comprehensive encyclopaedia in the world! To date we have over four million articles in a host of languages. The English language Wikipedia alone has 1,498,128 articles! But we still need more! Please feel free to contribute your knowledge and expertise to our site.
Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Help pages
- Tutorial (this is really great for getting used to editing Wikipedia)
- How to write a great article
- Manual of Style
Also, don't worry too much about being perfect. Very few of us are! It might be a good idea to read this to see how you can avoid making common mistakes, though.
Just to give you a really basic overview so you don't make any mistakes early:
- Wikipedia keeps a neutral point of view policy, meaning that all contributions must not be biased one way or the other. Even if both biases are presented, it is still not allowed on Wikipedia.
- Only public domain resources can be copied directly to Wikipedia without permission — this does not include most web pages.
- Be bold! In my opinion, this may be Wikipedia's most important policy. Go ahead and edit a page! Don't worry about "ruining" other's work, this is a wiki! (Of course, major changes should probably be proposed on talk pages to achieve consensus, but don't be scared!)
We hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please always sign your name on talk pages (but not articles!) using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the time and date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}}
on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome! —Mets501 (talk) 15:36, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
Swell (band)
[edit]If you would like to recreate the article in a NPOV form, that doesn't sound like promotion for the band, and clearly points out how the band meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines, then feel free to recreate it! Here's the original page content if you'd like to use some data from it in your rewrite.
Swell are an American indie and lo-fi band formed in San Francisco, USA in 1989 by David Freel (guitar/vocals) and drummer Sean Kirkpatrick. Joined by bassist Monte Vallier and second guitarist John Dettman, the band issued their self-titled debut album (1990) and follow-up 'Well..?' (1991) on their own Psycho Specific imprint to positive reviews and college radio airplay. Plaudits from musical luminaries such as British DJ John Peel followed, and in the tailwind of the grunge explosion Swell signed a record deal with Warner Brothers offshoot Def American. Their first major-label album '41' (1994) was released to a warm critical reception, but problems with Def American's finances led to Swell leaving the label with fourth album 'Too Many Days Without Thinking' already partly recorded.
Feel free to contact me with any other questions or problems. —Mets501 (talk) 15:36, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
License tagging for Image:One part lullaby.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:One part lullaby.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.
For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 00:08, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
