Just wondering why you feel the link to the Baum family history should not be included in the page for Valora Noland :) Stonnman (talk) 00:53, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
Stonnman: I am not used to using the Wikipedia pages other than bare minumum, so I hope I am placing this answer in the right spot. You asked why I have deleted the link to Dan Kester's genealogy site for "Baum". It is because I am Valora Noland, and wasn't raised in the Jewish Culture.
I ran across an article in my old c.1970 14th edition Encyclopaedia Britannica under "Jews", and the article begins: "Contrary to popular opinion, there is no Jewish race." It was written by Raphael Patai when he was working for Herzel Institute in NYC during the 1960s. I guess Patai was a Hebrew Scholar. His article mentions blood and other tests, and ends by saying Jewish is 1) Religion 2) Traditions 3) History 4) Country. But no one inherits Judaism through the genes anymore than Catholics or Buddhists are genealogically Christian or Buddhist because a relative once was.
There are many ideas in our society which are very old, but which lack actual or scientific roots. Children are asked to adopt them, and many such ideas become part of one's cherished beliefs. This is termed "Maya" by the Hindus, the unreal aspect of life, because perception is too shallow to penetrate to the truth. I have never been to a service in a Synagogue, had no Jewish cultural input as a child as my parents didn't follow it, have had a few Jewish boyfriends who didn't seem different from the rest of humanity, and all in all, though physical, genealogical relatives may have been members of a Jewish community and annihilated in the Holocaust, I still don't feel this is directly a part of Me. I believe staunchly in reincarnation--believe I am only occupying my body for a time and then will go on to an alternate world. Next time back, I may be born Chinese!
To sum it up, I am not against Judaism, but I am against the idea that there is any genealogical Judaism. Genealogy does not determine religious matters. Don't give me a label where it doesn't apply.
So, does this give you a clear answer? Kamitra1 (talk) 20:55, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
Kamitra1: Thanks for writing back. I added your response on my talk page above to your talk page. I agree with you that religious affiliation is not something that is a genealogical inheritance, but rather a matter of faith and belief. Obviously many people of the world believe in certain tenets and credos due to their upbringing, especially if their parents are heavily involved in religion. My intent in linking the Kester page had more to do with my interest in family history, whether Jewish or otherwise. I will respect your wishes on the matter and will not link the Kester page in any future edit.
I was born into a household where religious observance and Sunday church attendance did not occur, so I don't feel any special devotion to any religion, or consider myself a Christian, or member of any sect or denomination.
Sometimes I think reincarnation may be the universe's system of right and wrong -- perhaps we all face ultimate justice in whatever lies beyond death by going through another human lifetime to face the consequences of choices made in this life. The idea that humanity will ultimately evolve to a higher race certainly seems appealing too. Stonnman (talk) 21:57, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
Stoneman: Please tell me about the correct way to communicate in the Wikipedia. Am I doing it the right way to put my words here, or should I be writing back to you from my own talk page, continuing under your reply? (I've just copy/pasted to your talk page.)
I love John Donne's famous "No Man Is An Island" message. With a few slight alterations of his 1500AD English terminology, here it is:
No man is an island entire unto himself. Every man is a part of the continent, a piece of the main. If a clod should fall off into the sea, this country is the less, as well as if a section of headlands had, as well as if a large house of your friend or family had. Any man's death diminishes me, for I am involved in mankind. Therefore, never send to ask for whom the bell tolls. It tolls for thee.
A few years ago I checked twelve Holocaust documentaries and films out of the library, and watched them all within two weeks. It was a powerful dose of education on the subject. My heart and the hearts of all decent people are shocked and saddened by that black event, and when I hear of the latest suicide attack in the Middle East, I feel the same way. Physical relatives or not makes no difference, for the whole of humanity is my relative. Our "circles" must someday become this large, to embrace the world.
Reincarnation is yin/yang on a wider scale than the day night cycle.
Thanks for unlinking me.

Kamitra1: Additions to talk pages are done by editing the page itself, much like editing a wikipedia page for a certain topic. To edit your talk page, I click on the "Edit" button toward the top of the screen. This Edit button is the second from the left, and the buttons at the top look like this:
Read Edit New Section View History
At the end of the edit, you can place four tilde marks on the very last line as a "signature". These tilde marks are found at the upper left of the keyboard, just above the "Tab" button.
The tilde looks like this:

When it comes to the holocaust, I am drawn to the story of Anne Frank, and what John F. Kennedy had to say about her in a speech in 1961: "Of all the multitudes who throughout history have spoken for human dignity in times of great suffering and loss, no voice is more compelling than that of Anne Frank." Soviet writer Ilya Ehrenburg wrote of Anne Frank also, saying "One voice speaks for six million; the voice not of a sage or a poet but of an ordinary little girl."

Creating article
Hi, I have seen your edit at the Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions and at User talk:TeaLover1996 and I thought I could help even more.
On wikipedia there is a namespace called "Draft" that is used for drafts for new articles (articles in progress of being created). On a draft you can work at an article and make sure it is finished and ready before it is moved to mainspace, and in that way you can work with it without risking it being deleted, it will only be deleted if it is pure vandalism or has not been worked on for 6 months. When a draft is ready, you can ask someone to look at it and move it to the real article-space.
To create the draft I suggest you go to Wikipedia:Article wizard and read through the steps and when you have reaached the end you create the draft by writing "Barney Brown (actor)" or "Barney Brown (producer)" or what you find most suitable and then click on "create draft". Then you can work on that draft until you feel finished and ready to for the article to be reviewed.
You may also want to read Wikipedia:Your first article
If you have any more questions or need more help, just let me know and I will try and help you. Qed237 (talk) 14:28, 23 May 2015 (UTC)
- Okay no problem, I will try and help you as much as I can. I think, since you are not that experienced, a draft is the best idea. I have tried starting the process for you. You can press here to create the article draft. Just enter your text and sources there in the editbox and then press "save page". After that you can edit Draft:Barney Brown (actor) as much as you want and when you are done, let me know and we can put it up for reviewing. If you need more help, dont hesitate to ask. Qed237 (talk) 16:28, 23 May 2015 (UTC)
- Hi again, you answered on the right place, it is good that you continue on the same thread at my talkpage. If you want I can ask for someone to review the article, but I can say right now that it probably will not pass inspection. This because the reference is not good enough you have to source the content properly. Please read Wikipedia:Citing sources. You can look at other article to see how they look and how they are sourced. It is up to you what the next step is, fix sources or say "it is ready" and ask for a review. Qed237 (talk) 18:37, 23 May 2015 (UTC)
- Okay I have now put your Draft at review as requested, now all you have to do is monitor it for any response (may take 2-3 weeks). You can still edit the draft if you want to. Qed237 (talk) 00:45, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
- As you can see on the draft and on my talkpage the article was immediately denied as poorly sourced. Qed237 (talk) 01:11, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
The review notification accidentally went to the wrong page. Apologies. TKK! bark with me! 01:09, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
What Tikuko ment was that the notice of the draft being denied was sent to my talkpage as I submitted it on your request. You should have been given the rejection on your talkpage. It is definately your draft that has been rejected (you can always look at it). It is no way near as sourced as it has to be. Qed237 (talk) 20:31, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
- Not sure what you are trying to say in your last edit at my talkpage. The content is poorly sourced, and if you say websources exists then add them to the draft. Qed237 (talk) 14:53, 25 May 2015 (UTC)
You can still work on Draft:Barney Brown (actor). When the draft was reviewed and denied, you were given the reason (badly sourced, which you can see at the draft) and then you have the chance to improve and fix the problems and then submit it for a review again. Adding a source is most easily dont by adding the URL between two ref tags like this <ref>YOUR URL HERE</ref> that says reference/source is starting, then it is the url, and finally it says end of reference/source. This should be done after every statement that need source but at least for every section.
For example I just updated a soccer/football content
The code
[[West Ham United F.C.|West Ham United]] was given the fair play berth.<ref>http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/32889068</ref>
That results in
- West Ham United was given the fair play berth.[1]
After that they need to be fixed but that can be done later. Qed237 (talk) 15:52, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
References
No problem, I am happy to help as much as I can. Changing name of the article is easier to do when article has been approved, it is a simple page move then, that I can do myself. About the italics, I tried and read MOS:ITALICS and it does not seem like we should italics places. Qed237 (talk) 20:14, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
What we need is sources for Barney Brown and not really for the places. Qed237 (talk) 20:15, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
Okay. If you think it is ready to be submitted, click on the blue button "Resubmit" in the pink box on top of the article. Qed237 (talk) 19:34, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
