Checking In
[edit]Hello Kaliek. I just wanted to pop in and see how the assignment is going for you? I see that you caught up on many of the trainings today and have selected an article Hellenism (modern religion). Is there a specific section of this article that you hope to work on? I did notice that there is a lot of discussion on the Talk page for revising the article and that it's a very active group of editors. The article is already a Featured Article which means it may be more difficult to find room for improvement. Have you identified any potential sources yet to bring some new information or to cite some currently unattributed statements? Let me know if you're struggling and I can seek out some sources for you. Your WRTG 111 Instructor aka Shackpoet Shackpoet (talk) 00:51, 7 October 2021 (UTC)
- I was not aware that it was a featured article. when i looked at this afternoon it said that it was a stub or start article. I looked on the Egan Library website and found a source i was going to look into more this week to see what i can add or whatnot. thank you for bringing this to my attention.Kaliek. Kaliek. I'm glad you found a different article to work on that has some personal significance for you. I did notice there are two articles related to King Island, King Island (Alaska) and King Island Native Community. I reassigned King Island (Alaska) to you but let me know if that's not the article you had in mind. I know you mentioned some local sources for new information to add but I also want to call attention to several areas of the article in need of improvement that could be pretty simple edits to begin with. The end of the Population Relocation section has a note that the years since relocation need to be updated. Also the Historical Population table could be updated with recent census data. - Thank you so much! I will get on that ASAP!Kaliek. (talk) 05:56, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
→ Kaliek. I'll bring a copy of Joan Kane's Hyperboreal to class today but also found this source the Alaska Native Studies Blog, linked from the King Island Native Community article that includes some great additional resources. I suggest you read a few of those articles and then write a few sentences summarizing any new information that could be added to the article. Also, I found two University of Alaska Fairbanks Masters/PhD thesis that look promising, Returning: Twentieth century performances of the King Island Wolf Dance, Leaving King Island: The Closure Of A Bureau Of Indian Affairs School And Its Consequences and may help add some information to the Culture, Decline or Outside Influence sections.
