Happy New Year 2017!

Happy New Year! To you and yours! May you have a happy, prosperous and joyous one! God bless!  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 12:43, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

Wish you the same Ssven. Kailash29792 (talk) 12:46, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

NFA?

I don't quite understand what you mean by this? Vensatry (talk) 19:16, 31 December 2016 (UTC)

Since the critical/commercial response to all his other films was mentioned, I thought I'd do the same for Kadhal Kottai, a milestone in his career. Kailash29792 (talk) 02:06, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
Ajith was neither the producer nor director. I don't see how the fact is relevant in his filmography page. Vensatry (talk) 04:36, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
There's no need to include the archived urls in refs. They are needed only if the link becomes dead. Vensatry (talk) 13:16, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
IMO, if a link is dead but it has an archive, the original link is retained but an extra field is added to the citation: deadurl=unfit. Otherwise we'd go with deadurl=no. Kailash29792 (talk) 13:45, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
I currently see archived urls for almost all links (no matter whether the original links are dead or not). Talking about this. It will only clutter the edit space. Vensatry (talk) 14:53, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

Scroll's article vandalised

Scroll's Wikipedia page has been vandalised. Vicious personal attacks like calling editor Naresh Fernandes a "well known Twitter troll" and Scroll a biased opinion using weasel words like "leftist propaganda blog". Kindly take note and correct. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alberun (talkcontribs) 05:25, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

Another upload?

Thanks for the edit in the Loev, could you upload an image of Shiv Pandit, as well? One without a watermark, I got blocked for uploading images for cropping already existing images, and the pleading process is tiresome and unnecessary IMO. Thanks again! NumerounovedantTalk 14:43, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

See what you want to upload, but please do it via Commons. Kailash29792 (talk) 14:51, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, that is where I was blocked, they seem to hold me credible for the cropped images non-free uploads. You may upload any form the first two albums, from events relating 7 Hours To Go, if at all. NumerounovedantTalk 15:05, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
Are you aware of the Crop Tool there? It is very useful and simple. Once you finish cropping, click "upload as new file", not "overwrite". Kailash29792 (talk) 15:23, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
Yes that's the tool I use generally and did today to crop an image of Pandit that was already at the commons. I suppose it was already in violation, but the admin seems to have blocked me from merely cropping, if you could upload any one from BH, it world be a great help. Hi there, you might find this discussion of interest. If it's too long to read, the short version is that I'm giving instructions to Padmalakshmisx about the standard offer. The socking has gone on too long. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:50, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

I'm surprised to see that Padma is finally beginning to co-operate and play by the book. Let's hope for the best. Kailash29792 (talk) 17:22, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi! Am not sure if you have notice it or not, but the annual editing competition Wikipedia:WikiCup has started and the signup is open till 5 February 2017. The cup encourages content improvement and tries to make editing on Wikipedia more fun; and it did that for me last year. I have hence decided to drop this friendly note hoping that you would take part. Although the signup ends on 5th Feb, the earlier you sign in the earlier you start scoring. Happy New Year and Happy Editing! §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 04:53, 6 January 2017 (UTC)

The sports articles about Indian athletes are in a appalling state. Do you have any interest in working on it, maybe a specific sport? Let me know, Thanks. NumerounovedantTalk 08:12, 7 January 2017 (UTC)

Shriya Saran filmography reverted edits

Hi, Kailash29792! Your edit to Shriya Saran filmography was reverted, because it did not have an edit summary and was considered blanking by me. I am sorry. Please consider adding edit summary next time. - FriyMan (talk) 08:02, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

Your comments

I saw your recent comments on the FAC and I was surprised. FYI, I had asked Vedant if he could put some more ideas on expanding the production by two or three lines, even after I had resolved his comments. He did that but the sources he provided were the sources which were already in the article. Do you think taking an article from a stub to GA was so easy? I had searched everywhere and had seen those sources. And, his comments made you to strike your comments? I wish you had looked at his points and his claim that those sources gave information about "filming"....Did you even check before putting that? By the way, I replied to his "points" and he is okay with it.Krish | Talk 09:13, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

I never meant to oppose the FAC. I still don't, I just thought that with several new comments added by Vedant, the article could become better. I decided that after Vedant's comments were resolved, I'd go through the article again and give support again if it looked FA-worthy. Kailash29792 (talk) 09:31, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
FYI, all of his comments were resolved and he also gave his no more concerns comment on the FAC. I don't know what made you do what you did. Take a look again if you can. Thanks. Krish | Talk 18:10, 13 January 2017 (UTC)

Disambiguation page

Can you please create a disambiguation page for Rajakumari. There are Rajakumari, Rajakumari (TV series), Rajakumari (film), Raja Kumari and Rajakumaari. The last one is not showing in the suggestions when searching for Rajakumari. I think it should be moved to Rajakumari (1947) without redirect. --UKSharma3 02:30, 16 January 2017 (UTC)

Sir, you mean you want "Rajakumari" to be a disambiguation page where the remaining four are listed? Yeah, I'll do that, please wait. Kailash29792 (talk) 02:52, 16 January 2017 (UTC)

Bairavaa

This might be a better poster. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 15:01, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

Done added the portrait poster. On an unrelated note, Vijay's pose in both the posters may give the impression that Bairavaa may be a sports film. You feel the same? Kailash29792 (talk) 16:11, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) The sports poster is just a backdrop for a fight scene. Its Tamil cinema's routine mindless masala entertainer again, but then again, his "fans" will make sure it shatters records. After all, Vijay, as of late, only seems to be making films for his fans, not for the sake of cinema itself. God, I miss the Vijay before Thirumalai. He really did look like Tamil cinema's answer to Hugh Grant and Richard Gere back then. You think his filmography has FL potential? Yes, but other IP editors and fans who operate here won't make it easy.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 08:11, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
I prefer Surya over Vijay because of the variety of roles he acts in, and the fact that he doesn't let himself be typecast. I also think he tried (and succeeded) in finding success on his own terms, rather than let nepotism smother him. As for Vijay's filmography, an obstacle to bringing it to FL is that his awards are also listed, but without many sources. Since award winners in Tamil cinema are hard to research as even reliable sources make mistakes in listing winners and primary sources die out soon, we must try splitting the list. Kailash29792 (talk) 08:30, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
Exactly. I was earlier thinking that it can pan out like Arshad Warsi's list but, as you mentioned, the awards don't have many sources. So, splitting them along with the songs he sang and placing them in a separate or in the main article is better. We can use Youtube refs like the ones in Rajini's filmography. Shouldn't be a problem. I have started expanding the filmography here.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 09:50, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
Ssven2, i think we can discount Thuppakki among Vijay's recent releases. Bairavaa looks like a poorer cousin of Sivaji, not just because of that coin trick. I remember Baradwaj Rangan saying once that films with social themes offer simple solutions for serious problems a la Aspirin for Cancer. I laughed at it, but it did make sense. Having said that, i am no Gautaman Bhaskaran to rip off every film that comes my way and display too peculiar tastes. Is this guy famous for providing negative reviews for almost every film? Pavanjandhyala (talk) 15:46, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
I once hated Barry (as he often calls himself) as he was critical of even nationally acclaimed films like Karnan and Vazhakku Enn 18/9, but he didn't win the National Award for nothing did he? Kailash29792 (talk) 15:50, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
Barry? Verrryyy similar to Bosskey. The level of undercurrent sarcasm he shows in every piece of writing; i wonder how stars and filmmakers manage to keep a straight face while talking to him. Is he like that with his students too? Pavanjandhyala (talk) 15:57, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

Rangan tries to take after Ebert in terms of analysing the films he reviews. As for Bhaskaran, he gave more positive reviews for Kaaka Muttai, Papanasam and Thoonga Vanam.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 16:14, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

That is what i am trying to say, Ssven2. Bhaskaran's tastes are too weird at times: Visaranai, Dharma Durai, Thoonga Vanam etc. I never saw this fellow writing something proper about films which are lighthearted in nature. Criticising is fine, but this man makes it feel like a critic's sole job. Rangan is far better than this oldie. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 16:33, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Lovely ... lovely discussion. Kailash, winning a National Award has got nothing to do with praise/criticism. In the past, a lot of mainstream craps were awarded with the same. Agree, he was very harsh on Vazhaakku Enn (which is an excellent film, IMO). But then, he has criticised almost every film of Balaji Sakthivel's. From my observation, his reviews analyse films based on their 'form', not necessarily 'content'. Btw, did he review the re-released version of Karnan? Vensatry (talk) 17:23, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
Yes, he reviewed the re-release of Karnan, both from the old and new perspectives. I earlier meant to ask that would he have been awarded one of Indian cinema's highest awards if he was so misfit/biased at reviewing? Kailash29792 (talk) 01:36, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Again, don't you see the irony? :P I do think he is heavily biased when he reviews Kamal/MR films. Vensatry (talk) 03:01, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
I was outraged on seeing how positive Rangan was when reviewing Kadal; I'm certain there was a conflict of interest. But sometimes I think even the NFAs are incompetent/biased. MGR receiving a National Award for Rickshawkaran may have been due to his political influence, Baahubali (although one of my favourites of 2015) looked too commercial to win Best Feature Film, and the NFA awarding Danny for Pride made me think they did not even read his book fully or do fact-checking. Meanwhile in Bangladesh, Brihonnola's three National Awards were revoked after plagiarism allegations against it were proven true. Kailash29792 (talk) 10:44, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
I read the "piece", Kailash. I am feeling sad because i hoped for a review, not for a "coastal analysis". Especially from a film that is shallow unlike the depth its title possesses. :( Pavanjandhyala (talk) 17:14, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
Kailash29792, Ha ha. He once compared Kadal with Papanasam and said he was inclined to the former because it was "cinema", while the latter wasn't (which is true). As I said earlier, he assesses a film based on the director's vision. Btw, you watch Bangla films? Vensatry (talk) 17:38, 16 January 2017 (UTC)

DYK for Alibabavum 40 Thirudargalum (1956 film)

On 17 January 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Alibabavum 40 Thirudargalum (1956 film), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Alibabavum 40 Thirudargalum (1956) was the first full-length colour film in Tamil cinema? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Alibabavum 40 Thirudargalum (1956 film). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Alibabavum 40 Thirudargalum (1956 film)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Anegan

IIRC, Dhanush played three roles in the film and not four. Who are Ilamaran and Shenbagavalli? Vensatry (talk) 06:36, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

I didn't add that. It was already there. All I did was add the footnote, "Dhanush plays the same character who is reincarnated multiple times". Besides, is it one of your potential FLCs? Kailash29792 (talk) 06:41, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
I'm not questioning you. I saw the film when it was released, but my memory of the film is rather hazy. And, yes I'm planning to take it to FLC. Vensatry (talk) 07:02, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
Gautaman Bhaskaran's review mentions him playing only three characters, and I've already added that. I'll add more sources to the table, so does that make me eligible as co-nominator? Kailash29792 (talk) 07:04, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
There's still a lot of work that needs to be done. Nobody can stop 'top contributors' from co-nominating the article. Vensatry (talk) 07:18, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
Never meant to sound rude. We shall nominate the article together as the prose still needs some work. Cheers Vensatry (talk) 09:41, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
Good. As co-nominator, I'll address comments if you are not available. But before a FLC is opened, we could take to the GOCE (could you please list it there, since a user cannot put more than two requests? I'm planning on listing something else there). Track listing of Kyon Ki (2005) movie

I doubt the track listing of Kyon Ki (2005) movie. Is there is any trustable source to get the right track listing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Harshrathod50 (talkcontribs) 10:39, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

Harshrathod50, typically we use Raaga.com, Saavn, MusicIndiaOnline, Gaana.com and iTunes as sources for songs. Did you try them? Otherwise you could photograph a physical copy of the album at a shop. Kailash29792 (talk) 13:35, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

Thanks! Now I had arranged all the songs properly taking gaana.com as a reference. But even there the names of the tracks were messed up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Harshrathod50 (talkcontribs) 16:54, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

Clarification

I am going to add that on the award section. After a few background check, I realised that some ip users have been editing Jyotika's and her related article to a fan point of view. As far the film;s article I'm doing my best in reverting them. However, a recent visit to Jyotika wiki article; I found out that many of the reference was fake and the unnecessary Telugu section was created. Please do something on her article, as of Mozhi, I am going to mention the national award 2 times - one at the Introduction and one at the award section. Cheers! Thuppakki box office

I saw that you removed the box office and budget numbers from the Thuppakki page. We routinely have those in other film wikipedia entries. You said you were removing them because you disagreed with us being "a log for BO statistics" but that's a type of information we've standardized on including... I restored the data, feel free to start a discussion on the article talk page if you feel strongly about it, but it does seem to be standard. Thank you. Georgewilliamherbert (talk) 12:32, 2 February 2017 (UTC)

Please see my last edit summary. Kailash29792 (talk) 12:34, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
There is an extensive "Box Office" section below near the bottom of the article with dozens of references. I didn't spot a single total revenue number easily in that nor where the budget came from, but if you are going to assert there's no source for box office available I think you need to review that section and explain why it's not valid. Georgewilliamherbert (talk) 12:47, 2 February 2017 (UTC)

Ajith Kumar filmography

Do we really need to bombard the page with those defunct awards, especially when no credible sources are available? Vensatry (talk) 11:39, 2 February 2017 (UTC)

Ask Ssven because he's the one "bombarding" the page with awards, not me. I just asked the reviewers if only his major awards could be mentioned, and while Aoba47 initially disagreed, he later agreed after Ssven's intervention. If it had ended with both Mymis and Aoba47 disagreeing and us three (the nominators) complying, the awards would not have been included. Kailash29792 (talk) 11:51, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
I'm not complaining about anybody. But this painstaking research is only going to complicate the process. Honestly, I'm not interested in the article anymore. Good luck! Vensatry (talk) 12:02, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
Never mind, but as long as all the Filmfare nominations are mentioned, I'm okay with that and not gonna add anymore of his awards. I think the list should pass FLC after the next reviewer does a thorough source review to ensure accuracy. Kailash29792 (talk) 12:09, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
@Vensatry: I've removed the mention of the State Film Award from the list altogeher and kept just the filmfare awards. I figured since Rajinikanth filmography (which was taken to FL by your good self and Kailash) listed the awards, why not follow the same here. I'm really sorry if I'm the cause of this.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 12:10, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
Not sure his Billa nomination can be sourced. And, Orkut discussions don't qualify WP:RS. Vensatry (talk) 12:11, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
Ssven2, I'm not against adding awards but the problem lies with the thing that we're unable to source the nominated films. Vensatry (talk) 12:13, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
@Vensatry: C'est la vie, Vensatry. The orkut link is originally from TOI. The original link is dead and this is its substitute. Look underneath, it says - SOURCE: TIMES OF INDIA -CHENNAI TIMES.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 12:16, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
Wish the post had mentioned the exact title of the article and date. I also wish there was a time machine that would help us find the answers without chaotic side-effects. Kailash29792 (talk) 12:20, 2 February 2017 (UTC)

Okay, but this should really be cited as an offline source (of course, TOI must be the publisher). Vensatry (talk) 12:26, 2 February 2017 (UTC)

Nice one, Vensatry.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 12:41, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
Kailash, can you get the information out of this source as you probably have access to TOI's epaper.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 12:41, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
The TOI epaper has it's limitations, and one of them is that we can't view full pages of issues older than a week. Are we now clear with all the awards-on-the-filmography-page issues? Kailash29792 (talk) 12:50, 2 February 2017 (UTC)

Kamal filmography?

Are you planning to take this to FL? Finding sources for his 70s films (especially Malayalam) is going to be tough. Vensatry (talk) 11:56, 31 January 2017 (UTC)

Actually yes. If there are no external text sources for his character names, can we cite the films themselves (of course from verified YouTube channels)? Because lack of sources for character names is a rampant problem related to Tamil cinema articles. On an unrelated note, since I have added new material at Thala's filmography at your suggestion, can you please do some proofreading? Or convince Cowlibob/Ssven? Details about many of those films are not available on the internet leave alone YT. :( Vensatry (talk) 18:06, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
As for Ajith's filmography, I'm okay with the changes made so far. Vensatry (talk) 18:07, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Haasan's list will be a big undertaking. More so since he doesn't have a Naman Ramachandran or Barry to have his own biography. You can try to search in google malayalam and maybe get some there/ask fellow malayalam editors here (Joseph might be able to lend you a hand).  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 11:56, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
Actually, there are at least two biography books on him, one of which has yet to release. I'm not sure if the other one is still in print. Kailash29792 (talk) 12:04, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
I'm willing to be of any help possible. Just say it. Has been missing from the action for quite a long time. — JosephJames 12:59, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
Josephjames.me, the best you could do is help find reliable sources about Kamal's Malayalam films. Ssven2, I think Kamal Haasan discography should be created to avoid overstuffing the filmography article. What do you think? Kailash29792 (talk) 13:16, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
No need to ask. You proceed with the creation of a discography list.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 13:18, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
Is this website good enough? — JosephJames 07:35, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
I hope so. At best it helps us identify films, then find other sources for them. Kailash29792 (talk) 07:53, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
At best? That's troubling. — JosephJames 07:59, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
Oops sorry, I mean at least. Seeing that it isn't an IMDb-like user-generated site (but an organised one), it could be useful. Kailash29792 (talk) 08:02, 4 February 2017 (UTC)

Um, Kailash, I understand you're disappointed with the two move proposals failing, but trying to override the discussions unilaterally isn't the right thing to do. I'm advising you as a friend to step back and say WP:FUCK for a significant amount of time, because very soon people, possibly including unamused administrators, are going to accuse you of beating a WP:DEADHORSE. Ribbet32 (talk) 21:29, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

Ribbet32, thank you for the advice. One day I'm certainly gonna develop the article further, and use evidence that helped Thillu Mullu and Nenjathai Killathe's move discussions end victoriously, over here as well. But it is not this day. Kailash29792 (talk) 15:47, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, moving pages against consensus using misleading edit summaries and adding unsourced stuff are "constructive" things. Vensatry (talk) 15:49, 7 February 2017 (UTC)
