Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello KKDT! Your additions to Charlemont High School, Jamaica have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. Tacyarg (talk) 05:47, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
- Hi... Good day once again. Im currently Producing this song officially and it will be out soon. I don't know why you might think it should not be posted but it is actually the school song for real, See a link to prove it here... https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=390243964519254 it will be out on all platforms because it was re-recorded Professionally in studio so I guess that will help with the copyright of everything pertaining to the song and the Lyrics... it was written from 1980, but has never been out on the internet so we are working on that well i tried to with, Im disappointed that its been removed and it was there for years on Wiki and as I try to edit it you decided to move it. is it possible to make a page for the song completely? just like we are the world and other songs? or should I wait until it's distributed publicly ? I Need advice on this Matter. KKDT (talk) 16:44, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
- If you can prove that the song is notable, then yes. Since you are financially connected to the song, you must declare your conflict of interest per the paid editing policy.
- Make sure you read and understand WP:NSONG, based on what you describe the song is probably not notable. Sungodtemple (talk • contribs) 16:50, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
- Please do not add the school song. See wp:WPSCH/AG#WNTI. Tacyarg (talk) 06:24, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

[edit]You cannot upload a photo that you did not take claiming to be the copyright holder and claiming the photo you did not take as your "Own work". Both claims appear to be false. I have removed the photo. Do not add that photo again until the copyright holder releases it under a free license, in a legally acceptable written form. Cullen328 (talk) 23:09, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
- The Photo is ok. its a simple Drone shot of the school. The Person who took the photo is ok with us using the photo the school administration knows about the photos. Graphics and Banners have been printed with that photo. that photographer is not joining wikipedia as a user to just. declare that information KKDT (talk) 00:16, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
- The photo is not OK. You do not hold the copyright. The photographer does. You are not the author as you falsely claimed on Commons. That photo is not your "own work". When you add that photo, you are breaking the law. If you attempt to improperly add that photo again, after being informed that you have no legal right to add it, then you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. I hope that is clear.
