Shaker Heights

[edit]

Through a public records request, I found out that the RTA is repainting stop shelters on the Blue and Green Lines in shaker heights. Next time you're down there can you update the pictures for the stations affected so far? Cards84664 (talk) 14:30, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Cards84664:I will do that next time I get the chance, though that may not be for a few weeks because school is unpredictable. Do you know the timeframe in which this is happening?Jvvg-jacob-x (talk) 18:00, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No clue on a timeframe, but I received this summary: "RTA’s light rail system (the Blue and Green lines) date back to the 1920’s when the City of Shaker Heights was designed around this system to provide transit access to all residents within a 1⁄2 mile of their Shaker home. The lines have been maintained and with the exception of a few stations, little has been changed since the lines were reconstructed in the early 1980’s. This project funds the replacement of 42 shelters along both the light rail system. These shelters serve as the stations in this system. The replacement costs include solar lighting and high end finishes. The estimate is based upon a range of shelters that RTA has had experience with. The project would include pads and other repairs if necessary. RTA would also provide new station signage and graphics to complement the replacement program. Ridership in 2018 on the blue and green lines was 1.6M. This project would create a more attractive waiting environment for passengers with new lighting, signage, and graphics providing a whole new look to the stations. In RTA’s experience, ridership generally increases when capital improvements are made to a station and or line. The Healthline saw a 70% increase in ridership and the Clifton BRT’s ridership increased 30%. The W. 25th Street MetroHealth line saw steady ridership amid service restructuring and a national decline in ridership. RTA would anticipate a 10% increase in ridership on the light rail blue and green lines after these improvements. With the addition of the Van Aken District, and the new E. 116th station, ridership could go up as much as 25%."
I don't recall which one it was, but either Ashby or Avalon has the new design already. Cards84664 (talk) 18:10, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
