Welcome to Wikipedia. Regarding your edit to James Randi, please see WP:LEAD and WP:OPENPARAGRAPH. The Lead is a summary of the most salient information in an article, in particular the reasons why the subject is notable. As it states at the latter page:
- Ethnicity or sexuality should not generally be emphasized in the opening unless it is relevant to the subject's notability.
