Species article formatting
[edit]Hi, some notes on the species articles you have been creating, like Amydrium hainanense:
- The Speciesbox template must include
|taxon=
with the scientific name of the species. Among other issues, if you omit this, the page title won't be italicized as it should be. - The name of the species should be in bold and italics at first mention, i.e. five 's either side.
- The genus name should be in italics, i.e. two 's on either side of the wikilink.
- The species name should be italicized in the PoWO reference.
- Expand "S.", "N.", etc. to "south" or "southern", etc.
- You should be adding categories as per the advice at Wikipedia:WikiProject Plants#Categorization of Articles.
- There should also be a taxonbar; see e.g. the one added at Monstera guzmanjacobiae.
Thanks! Peter coxhead (talk) 09:20, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
- Please fix Amydrium hainanense and Amydrium humile as per above before you create any more articles. Thanks. Peter coxhead (talk) 09:25, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
Understood, will fix. by the way, does this mean that every mention of the genus should be in italics? Bright (talk) 09:27, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, in the English Wikipedia, we always italicize scientific names at the rank of genus and below. Peter coxhead (talk) 17:13, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
- Understood, i thank you alot for this clarification Bright (talk) 19:48, 18 March 2022 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of You're guilty
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on You're guilty requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Fram (talk) 15:34, 6 April 2022 (UTC)
- Just to let you know that if you want to make sure someone sees a comment on this page, you should start it with a link to their user name, eg Jimfbleak and sign it in the same edit. That will send an alert Jimfbleak - talk to me? 15:55, 6 April 2022 (UTC)
- FramIm sorry, this was a major oversight from me and i fully understand why it is not acceptable content. i wil try to avoid another incident in future Bright (talk) 15:58, 6 April 2022 (UTC)
Great work!
[edit]Hey just wanted to say good job adding so many new plant species articles. I also wanted to point you toward a couple good sources, especially JSTOR and The Wikipedia Library. You can sign up to read 100 free articles a month at Jstor with just your Gmail or library login, and it has papers like https://www.jstor.org/stable/41764722 that are useful. Steven Walling • talk 23:11, 25 July 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot, these will certainly help, although i don't currently meet the edit requirements for the Library Bright (talk) 11:46, 27 July 2022 (UTC)
