Question about Hi-Rez Curiosity Rover images

[edit]

Hello Julian Herzog - Seems there's two "high-resolution" images of the Curiosity Rover on Wikipedia: image-1 and image-2 - Question (since you may know the answer and I'm still learning): both images seem to be JPG; both seem to be from the same source; both seem to have the same noted resolution (ie -> 5,463 × 7,595 pixels) - but the one I uploaded earlier has the same image-size as noted by the source at "3.65 mb"; whereas your image-size is much larger, at "19.48 mb" instead? - would you happen to know why this might be? - just curious - in any case - Enjoy! :) Drbogdan (talk) 21:19, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, sorry for the confusion. The image I uploaded has the same resolution, but it is rendered by me from the original, uncompressed Tiff-File that NASA published, with some grading that gives it a slightly higher contrast (if you compare them side by side, you will notice). That gives my version both a higher image quality due to less compression and it looks slightly better (in my opinion) as - while the low contrast of NASA's rendering might be scientifically accurate - we are used to higher contrast in images and it shows the colours and details more clearly. It also increases the size of the file, but for the downsized versions in articles, that doesn't matter. I think both versions have their right to exist, a choice should be made for every use individually.
I hope that explains it. --Julian H. (talk) 21:56, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you *very* much for your explanation - it's *greatly* appreciated - I tried the images side-by-side as suggested and yes, I entirely agree, your image looks better - interesting - Thanks again for your explanation - and - Enjoy! :) Drbogdan (talk) 23:41, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm glad I could clarify this, and thanks to you for the amazing work on the articles related to MSL. To further improve the image, I corrected some of its distortion now, too. --Julian H. (talk) 10:20, 4 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your latest efforts on removing some of the image distortion - and for updating the image on the various related articles - the image looks Excellent imo - Thanks again - and - Enjoy! :) Drbogdan (talk) 13:46, 4 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dispute Resolution - Eurofighter Maximum Speed

[edit]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurofighter_Typhoon - McSly is edit warring this. At present the speed of Mach 2.35 is based on '2495kph at 10,975m' and a simple calculation agreed with yourself and Bushranger https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Eurofighter_Typhoon#Typhoon_max_speed. The German wiki has reached the same consensus independently ('3O') https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurofighter_Typhoon. Please could you protect the page assuming you have the power.Z07x10 (talk) 20:04, 22 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Eurofighter RCS

[edit]

Hi Julian, I'm currently in a dispute regarding paragraph two in this content:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurofighter_Typhoon#Radar_signature_reduction_features. The other side has lost an accusation of synthesis, however they're now making an argument about source reliability. IPCS.org and globalsecurity.org are already used hundreds of times in wikipedia and have good credentials:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search?search=globalsecurity.org&go=Go
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search?search=ipcs.org&go=Go
http://www.globalsecurity.org/org/overview/praise.htm
http://www.ipcs.org/about-us/

Then they make a case about 'not liking the comparative language, which has nothing to do with wiki policy. I'm getting the usual cliche mentality with Mztourist&family simply because he doesn't like the edit, could you and as many people as you can source help me make the case here:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_mediation/Eurofighter_Typhoon#Issues_to_be_mediatedZ07x10 (talk) 17:21, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest that you ignore this blatant attempt at canvassing, and make your own mind up as to whether the consensus of multiple contributors (including people not previously involved in the dispute, such as myself) indicates a 'cliche mentality' (whatever that is supposed to mean), or a legitimate interpretation of Wikipedia policies and guidelines. Schloss Favorite, Ludwigsburg

Schloss Favorite is a maison de plaisance and hunting lodge built in the Baroque style in Ludwigsburg, Germany. It is located on a rise, directly north of Ludwigsburg Palace and connected via an avenue to it. This panorama of Schloss Favorite, taken in January 2017, was stitched from eight separate photographs captured from the avenue linking it to the palace. The building is shown in a snow-covered clearing in the woods, framed by bare trees lining the avenue.
