License tagging for File:UDOO-Quad-250px.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:UDOO-Quad-250px.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.
To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 13:05, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

Arduino
[edit]You have edited several pages to remove the claim that Arduino is open-source hardware. You have provided no sources for this, I can't find any sources for it either, and there are several sources that state the opposite. As such, I have reverted these edits. Please do not reinstate them without citing a reliable source that backs them up. (Note that the source itself must draw the conclusion that Arduino isn't open-source hardware; if it didn't, using it in this way would violate WP:SYNTH. Jackmcbarn (talk) 01:56, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
(@Jackmcbarn:) According to the definition given on Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open-source_hardware) "The term usually means that information about the hardware is easily discerned so that others can make it - coupling it closely to the maker movement.[1]"
This is just not true for Arduino.
In fact, Arduino doesn't release the whole amount of information needed to allow you to build an Arduino by yourself.
You can do it only through reverse engineering and guessing.
For example, on the Arduino forum you can find multiple users complaining for the lack of actual info or for the staff just ignoring the problem. Eagle files are "incomplete". The staff just released "most of the necessary part numbers" - in other words, some of the NECESSARY part numbers are not publicly released. Even Arduino staff declares "We don't provide the BOM but you can easily generate it" which is false, since the generated BOM is incomplete. Also, Arduino Yun is closed source: BOM and eagle files are not provided. Even Hackaday realized that two years ago. Even on the Arduino forum that is a public information you can double check.
A few links of the abovementioned stuff
-https://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=457210.0 -https://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=70258.0 -https://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=457210.0 -https://github.com/arduino/Arduino/issues/1852 -https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/ArduinoBoardYun -http://hackaday.com/2015/02/24/is-the-arduino-yun-open-hardware/ -https://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=368537.0 -http://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=216056.0 -https://forums.adafruit.com/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=23872
Now, consider that, according to Makezine, which is basically the bible of the open-source hardware movement, "A company also cannot be partially open source. " (http://makezine.com/2012/09/19/is-one-of-our-open-source-heroes-going-closed-source/).
Conclusions:
1)Arduino does not release BOM and Eagle files of Arduino 2)Arduino releases incomplete information, keeping other people from actually making the boards. 3)Arduino repeatedly and methodically refuses to release complete BOM and Eagle files of Arduino despite many other users asking for them. 4)Arduino is in contrast with the definition of open source hardware. 5)Arduino is closed source.
Can we now proceed to edit Arduino as a closed source company that builds closed source hardware?
- Okay, I looked over all of the links you provided, and I see two different issues that I'll address separately.
- The Yún
- The concerns about this board are that parts of it are under NDA, and that its published schematic, layout, and Gerber files are incomplete/inaccurate. Given this, I think it would be good to mention that the Yún in particular isn't open-source hardware, citing https://hackaday.com/2015/02/24/is-the-arduino-yun-open-hardware/ as a source.
- Bills of material
- The concerns here are that Arduino doesn't release a bill of material for any of their boards, and the information in what they do release isn't sufficient to generate a complete one. However, while this isn't ideal, I can't find anyone (except for a few random forum users, not WP:RS's by a long shot) who say that it makes the boards not open-source hardware. Given this, and that many sources do call Arduino open-source, I don't think we should say that Arduino as a whole isn't.
- The Yún
- In addition, keep in mind that putting together the sourced statements
"A company also cannot be partially open source."
and"The Yún isn't open-source"
(or using similar logic) to say that Arduino the company isn't open-source would go against WP:SYNTH. Let me know whether you agree with this, or if you want anything else clarified. Jackmcbarn (talk) 04:35, 27 May 2017 (UTC)
An article you recently created, UDOO NEO, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
