WP:MESO
[edit]Hi Jshouse23, the above is just a standard welcome-to-wiki template containing links to general info & wikipedia editing guides that you may find useful. And welcome also to WikiProject Mesoamerica (WP:MESO), I see you're one of Prof. Hoopes' KU anthro students. As well as whatever instructions and guides you may have been given for your course & activities here, pls feel welcome to ask questions of, or make any comments to, those of us in WP:MESO and we'll do our best to help out. Either at the WP:MESO discussion board, one of our user talkpages, or at the talk page of the relevant article. All the best, and cheers --cjllw ʘ TALK 03:36, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
You can use space on this talk page to create or post a draft of a new entry on which you're working. If you would like for me to give you comments on an existing entry, please add a pointer to it on this page. Happy editing! Hoopes (talk) 17:08, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
Food for thought
[edit]Don't forget to cite your article by Carrie Anne Berryman and that of Demarest et al. You cite them in your text but they are not noted in your references list. Also, keep in mind that in that article Berryman compares the site of Teotihuacan to the Maya. Take a look at page 378 again, where the paragraph starts off with "Elsewhere in the world...." and if you are coming up short on resources to write more, look at Berryman's bibliography and find book/articles from there. 66.45.134.37 (talk) 06:28, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of Sacrifice and Human Trophy Taking in the Ancient Maya
[edit]A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Sacrifice and Human Trophy Taking in the Ancietn Maya, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Proposed Deletion Issue
[edit]It's too bad that the individual who tagged this didn't have any constructive criticism. However, you should fix the obvious typo in the title of the entry and then look through it carefully for other issues that need addressing. I would recommend that you work on the draft entry here on your user page before making any changes in the main entry. Please note that Teotihuacan is not a Maya site (although it probably did have a barrio or neighborhood of Maya residents), even though it did have some profound effects on Maya civilization. There are lots of other good examples of sacrifice and human trophy taking in Maya culture. You could have found more of these in other chapters in the Chacon & Dye book. (See, in particular, the bibliography of the chapter by Demarest.) Hoopes (talk) 20:55, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
- Hi there Jshouse, don't worry about the PROD tag, I've removed it. Just to note I've retitled your article to Human trophy taking in Mesoamerica, just so the title is a little more in-line with our naming conventions we tend to use on wiki. Also, since the article draft currently reflects more than just Maya practices, I used 'Mesoamerica' rather than 'Maya' in the title. You can still of course concentrate on putting Maya-related info in the article, ie the article rename is not to suggest that you'd need to supply details for a pan-Mesoamerican context if that's beyond what your assignment guidelines provide. Explained a little more at the article's talk page, Talk:Human trophy taking in Mesoamerica. CHeers, --cjllw ʘ TALK 09:39, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
- Please refer to my comments in the talk page of the renamed entry. Hoopes (talk) 22:23, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
