Talk:Euglena
[edit]Good to see another editor on the Protist pages! Although you deleted your comment on Talk:Euglena, I wanted to let you know that I have been bothered by that line too, and will probably change it. The phrase was in the original Euglena article, which I rewrote last year. I left it in because it was not exactly wrong: Euglenophyta is, indeed, often used as a synonym for Euglenozoa. However, while Euglenozoa is an accepted phylum name, Euglenophyta is only sporadically recognized as a formal taxon. It does not appear in the ISOP taxonomy (where we have the phylum Euglenozoa, over class Euglenoidea, etc.). Nor does it appear in the databases of ITIS, Catalogue of Life, WORMS, Bio*Pedia or EOL. (To complicate things, some systems make space for the class Euglenophyceae, and others do not). A genus page is not the place to untangle the nomenclature of high level taxa, so I think I'll edit that line out. Since Wikipedia already redirects searches on "Euglenophyta" to Euglenozoa, it's unlikely to introduce confusion. Cheers, and thanks for the input (or, rather, input!)
