Chanelle Hayes

Hello John, this is in relation to the Chanelle Hayes entry on the List of Big Brother 2007 contestants page. Her VH1 UK show has been renamed "Wannabe with Chanelle" according to published listings like the Sky Electronic Programme Guide. I added the original entry and reference myself, I'm unregistered, and the page is semi-protected, would you mind making the slight change of title from "Wannabe" to "Wannabe with Chanelle" for me ? Also why are Channel 4 references not suitable as sources please, (not that I have used any myself) ? Finally would you change "rumours of violence" to "allegations of violence" which I feel more accurately describes the real situation and is more in keeping with Wikipedia guidelines.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.16.28.236 (talk) 23:59, 1 December, 2007 (UTC)

Fernando Torres

Hi. I made a minor correction to the Fernando Torres article, edited it in a couple of places, etc and you've messaged me to let me know that I've added content without citing a reliable source. Which of the edits that I made (there were a few, not all done in one go) were you referring to?

If I don't know what you would like me to provide references for then it's hard for me to cite the relevant sources!

(For the most part, I felt that the edits that I made were already adequately cited and/or just simple rewording of the existing content.)

John, thanks for your reply on my user talk page. However I should point out that the the claim about Crouch saying that Torres is the fastest player at Liverpool was already there before my edit: I didn't add it, I merely rewrote a paragraph or two in that area of the page and moved it a bit in the process.

I do take your point that facts must be cited, though. I've made additional changes to the page, mostly concerned with Torres's AM career, with some information from his own site that I've cited, etc.

No disrespect intended but I'd like to raise two points with you.

1. The text "Known for his quick pace and excellent dribbling, he is considered one of the best young strikers in the world." isn't mine, it's been on the page for ages, but it's hardly NPOV: FIFA have shortlisted FT as their World Player of the Year (a citation that I dug out and had added later on in the article.

At worst, surely it just needed a citation, much like similar remarks on Jamie Carragher's page?

2. 'Earnt' is a word, just as 'slept', 'crept', 'spelt', etc are words. And in this context, 'earnt' is more grammatically correct than 'earned'. Have a look at the Wiktionary discussion on 'earnt' vs 'earned': 'earned' is considered to be more American English, while 'earnt' is the more 'British English'. The reason why most online dictionaries prefer 'earned' is simple: they're invariably American English dictionaries.

If there is a Wikipedia preference to use American English over British English then I understand why 'earnt' should be replaced with 'earned', but otherwise I can't say that I do. If there's no preference then, as the overwhelming majority of people reading FT's page will be British rather than American, wouldn't using the British spelling make more sense?

Again, I'm not trying to step on any toes here, only to help make this article as good (in both content and readability terms) as it can be.
