A tag has been placed on Kenneth J. Kremer, RN, CCRN requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Porturology (talk) 02:51, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notability on Wikipedia

[edit]

Hi Joules 360 and thanks for the message. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia governed by the 5 pillars included in the welcome I inserted on this page. Guidelines on the approriateness of articles and notability of subjects have developed over the years. These are only guidelines but the Wikipedia community has several opportunities to comment on articles:

1. Speedy delete - if an editor feels that an article makes no claim of notability within the guidelines, this tab can be placed on the article. Through the articles talk page and the {{hang on}} process, members of the community may then give arguments for and against. A wikipedia administrator can then decide to delete the article, keep it or place tags suggesting improvement on it.

2. Prod - an editor may place this tag on an article if he believes it is inappropriate. If it remains unchanged on the article for 5 days the article will be deleted

3. Article for deletion debate - this is a more formal process, each day several hundred articles are listed for a five day debate on whether they should be deleted. The articles' fate is decided by an administrator on a consensus rather than a majority basis

This may sound all very formal but if you look at the number and quality of articles that are created each day, - these can be seen by using the recent changes link on the main page then new articles- without the rules Wikipedia would quickly stop being an encyclopedia and become a social space ( It appears every 12 year old boy with a guitar and garage band believes they should have an encyclopedia article). Quite a few editors act on new page patrol to act as gatekeepers to the encyclopedia using the guidelines.

Particular problems with your article Kenneth J. Kremer, RN, CCRN The problem I had with this page is its variance from the 5 pillars;

1. Verifiable accuracy - any statement on Wikipedia must be verifiable with multiple, independent, non-trivial references. This, for example, would include articles in major national newspapers but not mentions in congressmen's newsletters or local papers. Often verifiability is achieved through a google search for the subject matter - you will see in deletion debates the mention of how many Ghits a subject has. Before nominting this article I spent some time searching Google with various combinations of "Kenneth J Kremer". I found practically nothing let alone evidence that "The person has made a widely recognized contribution that is part of the enduring historical record in his or her specific field". I also searched for the Star of Life Award and did not find a great deal - surprisingly it does not have an article on Wikipaedia. I noted that it was one of a range of awards that American ambulance services give. I think it would be of less significance than Australian Bravery Awards and winners of these would certainly not be notable enough for an article for this achievement alone.

2. Neutral point of view, for a biography to be truly objective the article should not be written by someone who personally knows the subject. With the lack of a verifiable web presence I believe you must personally know Kenneth J Kremer particularly as I suspect your nom de plume is a reference to a defibrillator charge. If Mr Kremer is notable someone who does not personally know him will write the article. It should be noted that wikipedia should also not be used for the pushing of personal viewpoints. I agree that male nurses should be given more notice but Wikipedia, as a journal of fact, is not the place

I hope this explains the process. I think an article on the Star of Life award would be notable and Mr Kremer's name would probably be included as a recipient (that's up to the community not me). Cheers Porturology (talk) 03:19, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
