Thank you! Actually, it's only my user name which is new. As User:Jeppi, my now discontinued former SUL account, I have made (mostly smaller) edits here since 2006. --Jossi 13:01, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
A regular then! Well, welcome back maybe? Ha ha. You might want to redirect your old username/talk to these to prevent silly sock-puppetry allegations. Have a good one! Cheers, Stalwart111 13:10, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Was bored so I did it for you - templates added to both User:Jeppi and User talk:Jeppi. Stalwart111 13:20, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's what I call excellent service! Thank you so much! Frankly, this user name business got a bit too much for me lately. I chose my old user name "Jossi" in 2004 in de:WP, long before any thoughts of SUL or global accounts had emerged. When I started to edit in en:WP, finding out that "Jossi" was already in use there, I sidestepped to "Jeppi", not wanting to give up my well-introduced nick in de:WP, and Jeppi became also my global account. So I was quite happy with my double identity until SUL finalization came along and things started to get a bit complicated... Cheers --Jossi 14:06, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
Ha ha. What a mess! Well, hopefully it hasn't disheartened you. Keep up the good work! Stalwart111 14:32, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Rockefeller Geneology

[edit]

Hello - I am wondering what your source is for disputing and editing the inclusion of information regarding the Rockefeller family's origins in France. I cited the family's very own genealogy as provided in their Rockefeller Family Association publishing, dated 1910. There are also contemporary sources, including a New York Times article, that indicates a possible connection of the Rockefellers to France and the Roquefeuille noble house.

You indicated that "the claim of the family's French origins is a long-disproved legend from the beginning of the 20th century; see talk page for further information".

I am interested to see what documentation/sources you have to back your assertion. Saying that this is some "long-disproved legend" is an appeal to ignorance. Are you saying that the Rockefeller's own family genealogy as documented in their own Association's publication is a fabrication? 170.202.222.126 (talk) 16:31, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Did you read the sections Name - french origin? and name on the Rockefeller family talk page? The claim of an alleged French origin has repeatedly been disputed there and the paragraph in question was removed for the first time in 2008.
The claims to French roots given in the Transactions of the Rockefeller Family Association, Knickerbocker, New York 1910, are an address given by Henry Oscar Rockefeller in 1905 (p. 29-30) and a 1907 address by the New York genealogist Aaron R. Lewis, who was employed and paid by the Rockefeller family to travel to Europe and research their ancestry, on p. 65-67. Both texts are completely unsubstantiated and based exclusively on the similarity of the names. They do not show any documented connection between the French nobles named there and the Rockefeller family. The fact alone that the authors try to trace the family back to the years 900 and 949 respectively is a sign that this cannot be taken seriously. The same book says at the beginning of the family genealogy on p. 148: "SECTION I. THE FRENCH GENEALOGY. The genealogy of this branch of the family has not been sufficiently completed to have it appear in this volume. It is expected that it will be published at some future time." This never happened, as there is no proven French ancestry of the family.
The well-documented German family tree of the Rockefellers goes back to direct ancestors living in the Neuwied area in the beginning of the 17th century. This clearly disproves the legend that the Rockefellers were originally French huguenots expulsed by Louis XIV as these expulsions began not earlier than 1685.
We might possibly include that there has been a claim to French origins but we cannot state this as a proven fact. --Jossi (talk) 18:05, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
