Erawig's copyvio machine

Morning Joseph. Is it the stuff in red that is the actual violating text then? Cheers. Hope you're well. Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi 05:17, 8 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi @Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi:, sorry for the late reply. Yes the text highlighted in red is what the tool thinks is copied. Joseph2302 (talk) 17:25, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

Hey Joseph. Just a note that I've undeleted the above article upon a request at WP:REFUND. Since prods are deletions based on one user's nomination on the basis that the deletion is uncontroversial, we also consider them uncontroversial to undelete, just as if someone had removed the prod while it was live. Sometimes, though, users may wish to follow up with some type of deletion discussion, so I try to always inform users when I undelete these. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 00:41, 10 September 2015 (UTC)

However, now that I've looked at the article subject in google news and books, and the basis for the prod, I don't think this was a good one. Sorry. The reason is that you appear to have addressed the sources in the article, rather than the existence of sources for the topic, when stating it should be deleted as non-notable. Notability is about existence of sources, so a prod on the basis that something is non-notable is ipso facto a statement that you don't believe the sources exist out in the world, and not that the sources currently cited present don't demonstrate it. Just so you understand, I am telling you the current state of policy and guideline, not what I believe we should be doing. Were it up to me we would be deleting a few hundred thousand unsourced articles under a pragmatic verifiability enforcement policy.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 00:50, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
I understand the reasoning, although I don't agree, and I'm not sure you actually agree with undeleting this (your post makes it seem like "the rules say I must undelete it, so I did, even though I think it's a bad article"). Joseph2302 (talk) 20:28, 11 September 2015 (UTC)

Draft Krov Menuhin

Comment: Not notable and probably never will be. Joseph2302 (talk) 10:48, 30 August 2015 (UTC) Could you tell me how many citations you have checked and why you have made the comments you have, please? There are many references to Krov Menuhin's films and work, including the honour of being chosen twice to sit on the Rolex jury awards, plus a documentary film made about his life and work by TF1, the French state owned TV station and being personally chosen by Hans Hass to take over the Hans Hass award. There are numerous and varied articles in magazines, books and journals about his life time work plus 40 odd years working and making wildlife films, many of which are on youtube, but also are in the BBC, Channel 4 and TF1 archives. I will send you the latest magazine article from Scuba Diver Ocean Planet (Asian Geographic) to give you an update of how notable he is in his field of work. If you take the time just to read a few of the Rolex award jury members you will find they are made up of global illuminaries, who are each one, internationally recognised leaders in their own fields.204.236.116.217 (talk) 15:21, 15 September 2015 (UTC) KarenMenuhin (talk) 15:33, 15 September 2015 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) You should definitely familiarise yourself with the 'conflict of interest' policy first. Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi 15:41, 15 September 2015 (UTC)
I agree with the comments on conflict of interest above. And I don't see evidence of significant coverage in independent reliable sources, as required by WP:GNG. Note that notability cannot be inherited from working for notable organisations. Joseph2302 (talk) 17:52, 15 September 2015 (UTC)
Why do say 'working for' notable organisations? Upon reading the article you will find that he either worked with or was specifically invited by these notable organisations because of his expertise and reputation within his field of film and underwater work. Are the BBC, Channel 4, Rolex, TF1, Radio Times, National Archives (US), People magazine, Asian Geographic, China Daily, Blancpain, Hans Hass, Toucan, Nicolas Hulot, not considered to be independent, reliable sources?

In an attempt to assuage your concerns, I offer a brief biography; From 1969 until 1983 Menuhin conceived, led, directed and filmed marine documentary expeditions to Patagonia, Cape Horn, Belize, Guatemala, Baja California, The Red Sea, Australia, Vanuatu, The Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, and Alaska. In order to finance these expeditions co-productions were established with the following television companies: BBC, Channel 4 UK, ABC –Australian Television-, TF1 France, Antenne 2 France. As a result of the 15 years experience of leading documentary filming expeditions, combined with his professional military and professional aviation experience Krov Menuhin was invited by TF 1 France’s Ushuaia program to direct and film expeditions all over the world. His direct involvement with the Ushuaia television program of TF1 France is credited with making the program one of the most popular on French television. (25 years of Ushuaia/Nos Annees Ushuaia - editionsdutoucan) When you are selected to address the Golden Circle of the IBM Corporation, become a member of the International Jury of the Rolex Awards for Enterprise, direct the 26 million dollar ‘Unknown Oceans’ project and address the French Senate - it is largely because you have achieved considerable respect and notability. These acheivements amongst others are why he was chosen personally by Hans Hass to take his award and continue the work after his retirement and demise. Not unnaturally you need to see supporting evidence for these statements and I am doing my best to provide them, however not everything is easy to find with a quick sweep of the internet, some films are now on the net, but most are in the archives of the organisations with whom they were released. So are many other such acheivements, because much of the activity was pre internet. Finding old copies of, for instance, the Radio Times is not an easy undertaking, although the BBC through its genome project has started to digitalise its archives. (talk page watcher) H'mm seems like User:KarenMenuhin is WP:SOCKING with an IP now. Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi 13:39, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
the IP address was an error and I went back and signed it having realised what I had done, as you can see from the times and date ie 15.21 then 15.33 on the same day. The reason being, was because I had not realised I was not logged in and then went back and did so. I have only one account. A more positive approach would be to remark on the points made and help give some direction.204.236.116.217 (talk) 14:07, 17 September 2015 (UTC)KarenMenuhin (talk) 14:10, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
The problem is to some extent that your "wall of text" approach does not encourage such as you desire. Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi 14:14, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
yes you are correct and another editor hs suggested means by which I need to alter the article. I am almost going back to the drawing board with this now. Please forgive me if it takes some time to redo the draft and resubmit. I do hope to eventually get this right as I would really like to learn to write articles properly on other subjects in the future. Thanks for your feed back and time.KarenMenuhin (talk) 14:37, 17 September 2015 (UTC)

Odysseas Papadimitriou Draft

Hey Joseph - You left a note on the talk page for this draft (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Odysseas_Papadimitriou) a while back and I kept forgetting to respond! I really appreciate your feedback and it's very helpful. I'm just trying to wrap my head around this, but can you help clarify why someone who is is in the news a lot wouldn't be notable just because the content isn't necessarily about him or her personally? By that rationale, why would these people have entries:

Heather Armstrong (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heather_Armstrong) Brian Krebs (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Krebs) S.E. Cupp (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S._E._Cupp)

Surfjk (talk) 02:03, 17 September 2015 (UTC)

Surfjk Well, good solid sources that actually mention the subject make for a good article and less chances of someone questioning its notability or separate article notability (if subject isn't notable enough, they can be mentioned at a related article). Help us improve wikimeets by filling in the UK Wikimeet survey!

Hello!
