Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially-designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Information icon Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit(s) you made to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. ––FormalDude (talk) 05:04, 18 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Jordanbakernyc. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Robert F. Kennedy Jr., you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. ––FormalDude (talk) 05:07, 18 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Declaring paid editing

[edit]

Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Jordanbakernyc, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your recent contributions.

I noticed that you have disclosed a conflict of interest and would like to thank you for being forthcoming about that. To keep Wikipedia neutral, you are strongly discouraged from directly editing any existing articles you have a conflict of interest with. Proposed edits can be suggested on the talk pages of such articles, and it is strongly suggested that new articles in such an area be created through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

You are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. If you have not done so already, you can post the mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Jordanbakernyc. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Jordanbakernyc|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date.
