Question

[edit]

What political party are you affiliated with? Republican? Deomcrat? Independent? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mwhorn (talkcontribs) 03:35, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jonathunder, king of Minnesotans

[edit]

Jonathunder, I promise to remain ever picky over grammatical issues, but always willing to listen and compromise on such matters as well! Thank you for your support of my RfA, if there is any way I can be of service, just shout! Thanky thanky, Babajobu 00:24, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations!

[edit]

Congratulations! It's my pleasure to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. You might find the new administrators' how-to guide helpful. Cheers! -- Cecropia 01:11, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'll add mine here as well, of course. BD2412 T 02:11, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Congratulations! This is long overdue and I must thank BD2412 as well for nominating you. You'll make a great administrator! — Knowledge Seeker 02:30, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Indeed! Well deserved congratulations! But, opposite to Knowledge Seeker I say damn you for nominating him BD2412! He was MY nomination! Darn it! :) Just kidding. I don't care who nominates anyone, so long as good editors well suited to adminship become admins. You, Jonathunder, are very well suited. Bravo on the adminship! Keep up the great work! --Durin 03:05, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you all ever so much! All four of you, Cecropia, BD2412, Knowledge Seeker, and Durin are administrators I hope to emulate. Jonathunder 17:40, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations. I know'll do well, and do good too. Cheers, -Will Beback 05:19, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Inquiry

[edit]

In your vote opposing my candidacy for ArbCom, you referred to my "continued failure to appreciate constructive criticism of how recent actions were done". Could you please elaborate on that? What makes you think that I have failed to appreciate criticism (constructive or otherwise)? Kelly Martin (talk) 20:05, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lake Louise State Park

[edit]

Hey, Jonathunder, I really like a lot of your images and articles about Minnesota/Southern Minnesota. Cool stuff. I've been expanding pages relating to Mower County, Minnesota lately and I hope to add a bunch of pics after I take them this summer when I go there. It seems like a lot of your stuff relates to Olmsted County, Minnesota. Are you working on anything specific right now?--Hraefen 00:32, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA

[edit]

I have decided to withdraw my nomination, due to growing oppose votes due to my lack of experence (and because of userboxes?). I will now aim to continue, and broadern my scope from userboxes. I will accept a nomination, should one be made, in 1-2 months. Ian13ID:540053 18:24, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

List of German concentration camps

[edit]

Hi, I just wanted to leave you a note that the rules of the vote at Talk:List of German concentration camps have slightly changed since you've voted there and it's likely that you might want to reconsider your vote. --Lysytalk 20:31, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA

[edit]

I don't have a fancy layout like other new admins, but I just want to thank you for your support at my RfA. It passed 47/3/1, so I have officially been promoted. I hope I won't let you down. If I'm not doing something properly, please tell me. Aecis Mr. Mojo risin' 21:30, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the nice welcome post

Thanks for posting in my talk page! It's encoraging to se ones work noticed. Abouth your question, rakfisk tastes like trout, whit a distinct sour flavor cind of like matured cheese, it is by all means an aquired taste! I like it, I actually have some in my fridge right now, and will take a picture as soon as I get around to eating it..--Njård 00:52, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was surprised to read your oppose vote. I am wondering if you'd be willing to clarify for me what issues you have? And let me know if there's anything I could do to help answer them?

Is your concern entirely that you believe WP:AUTO should be policy rather than only a guideline? I admit (and explain somewhat in my RfA) that I feel that this is overused even as a guideline. Still, as a reason to oppose, this would have you vote against adminship for Jimbo Wales, Angela Beesley, Larry Sanger or Alan Cox on the same basis. Actually, while Category:Wikipedian autobiography is very incomplete, I doubt that nearly any active Wikipedian who is also notable in the "outside world" would pass by such a standard. Ruling out anyone who is worth having an article on from adminship is, I guess, something I would oppose pretty strongly—so I guess one thing I cannot do to reassure you is promise not to edit the article on me, since I just don't endorse that principle. I can certainly promise not to violate WP:NOR or WP:NPOV should I make such edits (which I may or may not; I'm not planning on editing the page on me, per se), but then I guess I would promise that for any article I might work on.

FWIW, if you read the edit history, you'll see that my edits to David Mertz are pretty insubstantial (there are pretty many rather minor ones; not quite "minor edit" in the sense of typo-only, but not the substance); it may appear that the initial thing was written by me, but the talk page indicates the actual source (in retrospect, I should have had some other editor copy over that, but I had just started editing, and had never noticed WP:AUTO at that point). Lulu of the Lotus-Eaters 15:48, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was nuetral before you answered the question on WP:AUTO, with the comment that I would weigh your answer. It is not because you edited the article on yourself or even because you created it that I voted oppose. (Though the number of edits you have made are more than the others you cited made to theirs, I think.) But the reason I oppose is your overall attitude toward this guideline, reflected in calling it "only" a guideline on this page, and calling it a "really bad rule" on another. I think it is a well-written guideline, carefully balanced, and motivated by important concerns shared by much of the community. Jonathunder 05:18, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Your comment on Chairboy's RfA

You said, "chair, boy, mop, give". I didn't know you were Tarzan. Do you block people the same way? "You vandal. Me block. Ungh!" :) Just thought it was funny :) --Durin 13:23, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a native Rocester person, currently in school in Chicago. What is the restaurant with the sourdough pancakes which you photographed and have linked in your user page? Bobryuu 22:43, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, I've not been there; though I shall attempt to when I go on spring break. Bobryuu 23:27, 25 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Talk:Río de la Plata

[edit]

I don't know whether or not you've been following things on Talk:Río de la Plata lately, but I noticed that you voted in the first round, but not yet in the second. Since violetriga has said s/he plans to campaign for "River Plate", I thought it prudent to encourage you to revisit the page, if for no other reason, to cast your vote again for the correct (:-p) name. See Talk:Río de la Plata#Final naming poll. Cheers, Tomertalk 00:33, 25 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

25 December edits

[edit]

Originally the date of birth for Jesus of Nazareth was 1 (sometimes 1 AD/AD 1), then it was 1 BC, then vandalized to 1 "BCE" by an anonymous or infrequent user, reverted to BC, then vandalised back to "BCE" by you. Thus your edits are undiscussed removal of original texts. Darwiner111 03:42, 27 January 2006 (UTC).[reply]

I hope you don't mind; I extended your block of him. I've already blocked him twice before for making inappropriate era changes, and intend to use increasingly longer blocks if he does not cease edit warring in this fashion. — Knowledge Seeker 06:22, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV

[edit]

Thank you for your comment on the proposed requested move. You are right to say that NPOV and POV are very much part of Wikipedia language and evoke specific things - my concern (as shared by a few others on the mailing list) is that these are negative terms. Far better to stress the positive "let's aim for a neutral viewpoint" rather than the negative "stop POV warring". Also, they are quite unnecessary terms. In real life we use the word "opinion" rather than "POV". Is there any real benefit in using the term "POV" in Wikipedia rather than "opinion" or is the term really to the detriment of harmony? If you have the time, I'd be grateful for a response, jguk 08:07, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Succesful RfA!

[edit]
Thank you for your support during my RfA! The community has decided to make me an administrator, and there's work to be done. I look forward to seeing you around the project in the future, and if you see me do anything dumb, let me know right away! Regards, CHAIRBOY () 23:40, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Move from Laozi to Lao-Tsu

[edit]
  1. There was no consensus for that move. Thirteen editors wanted to move, while seven opposed. And in any case, voting is not the way Wikipedia works. Read WP:NOT#Wikipedia_is_not_a_democracy ≈ jossi ≈ t@ 05:07, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've moved it back, and corrected all the resulting double redirects. If it's again moved without consensus, I shall take steps to have the article protected, and raise the matter at W:AN/I. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 11:48, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough — but I really don't see that there are grounds for claiming consensus. Another page-move proposal might clear the air. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 23:24, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Río de la Plata (Puerto Rico)

[edit]

Would you be horribly opposed to naming the article with the accent? I see that all the other articles in Category:Geography of Puerto Rico are named using accents and tildes as appropriate. Tomertalk 22:21, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I named it exactly like it is in the reference I wrote it from, which is a publication of a U.S. gov't agency. I would note almost all of the pre-existing links pointed to that spelling, too. Unless you find references showing that isn't the most common English name, I don't think it should move. Jonathunder 22:32, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My RFA

[edit]

Hi Jonathunder/archive5, thanks for participating in my RfA discussion. Unfortunately, my fellow Wikipedians have decided at this time that I am not suitable to take on this additional responsibility, as the RfA failed with a result of 66/27/5 (71.0% support). If you voted in support of my request, thank you! If you decided to oppose me at this time, then I hope that if I do choose to reapply in the future, the effort I will make in the meantime to improve and expand my contributions to Wikipedia may persuade you to reconsider your position. All the best, Proto t c 10:40, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Being bewildered...

[edit]

What's been going on at Macedonia (Greece) and why has only User:Makedonas been 3RR blocked. The other user, User:Macedonian876 reverted 4 times to his yesterday version (that's not counting the sockpuppets) within a few hours and vandalised User:Makedonas's userpage after having being informed of the 3RR yesterday by me. --Latinus (talk (el:)) 22:08, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Macedonian876 has been cautioned about the 3RR (including by me) and if he exceeded it after being warned I would block him, too. I don't see that he has, yet. If you are certain he is using sockpuppets to break the 3RR you can report that. Which other accounts do you believe he is using? Jonathunder 22:22, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
User:Latinus warned User:Macedonian876 once [1] and I warned the user a second time [2] at User talk:Macedonian876. I also warned all parties at Talk:Macedonia (Greece). I too am a little confused why only one party was blocked. Jkelly 22:25, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you find more than three clear reverts in more than 24 hours I can block him too. I didn't see that he did but I could look at the history again. Jonathunder 22:33, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) Hi again, check WP:AN3 I have reported him there. The sockpuppets (anon IPs) are not important - he did violate the rule and according to WP:3RR all sides should be treated equally and Macedonian876 did know about the rule, as I told him yesterday (check his talk page). Thanks. --Latinus (talk (el:)) 22:27, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Even if one doesn't count the logged-out edits there are still four. Jkelly 22:35, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
After reviewing the diffs Latinus posted on WP:AN3 which made this very clear, I have just blocked User:Macedonian876 as well. Thank you both. Jonathunder 22:38, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RfA Thanks!

[edit]
Okay, this is perhaps a bit overdue, but thank-you for your support in my recent RfA! I passed with a final vote count consensus of (82/1/0), which was a lot of support that I really appreciate. I'll try to live up to the expectations; and on that note, if there's ever something I do wrong (or don't do right), please spit in my general direction. Cheers! --PeruvianLlama(spit) 05:31, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RFA

[edit]

Hi, just wanted to thank you for voting on my RFA, which went through with a count of (58/0/1), far better than I'd expected. I intend to take things slowly and start using the extra abilities gradually, but if there's anything I can do just leave a message. Cheers, CTOAGN (talk) 13:54, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA

Thank you for your support on my request for adminship. It ultimately succeeded with votes of 52/1/2, so I am now an administrator. Should you have any questions, comments, complaints, or requests at any point in the future, please do not hesitate to let me know on my talk page or via e-mail.
  • When looking at this page, I noticed that southern MN is not represented in any way. The closest it comes is the Pipestone region. I'd like to make a page for southern MN (or separate ones for southeast AND southwest) and I was hoping you would have some ideas or some recommendations for sources to use. And congrats on adminship.--Hraefen 01:34, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
