First off, I have to apologise for being rather discouraging, but you're not likely to get a WP-acceptable permission. If they grant a WP-acceptable license release and have it sent to OTRS, that's all you need, but that probably won't happen. Here at IU Bloomington, Archives policy is rather restrictive regarding copyright (I've never gotten a clear statement about the status of this image, which was seemingly published ±150 years ago), and if KSU has a comparable policy, they'll be extremely reluctant to grant a license for any use by anyone without even asking permission. You also have to ensure that they have the rights — IUB generally asks donors to include a grant of copyright in their deeds of gift, so IUB Archives images are generally owned by the University, but KSU donors/sellers might still own copyright in many images whose physical copies are KSU-owned. Don't forget the issue of registration, though: if you can establish that an image was published before 1963, you can check for copyright renewal ({{PD-US-not renewed}}), so there's a chance that the images might be PD despite the notice. Nyttend (talk) 02:58, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
- Renewal wasn't particularly common (Copyright renewal mentions a 1961 study finding that only 15% of works were renewed), and for photos, probably a vast percentage of renewed images would be stuff by professionals such as press agencies. I'd strongly advise that you check for renewals; you can't use the Stanford database for this because it only tracks books, so you'll have to consult the printed renewals; a random example from our catalogue is here. I'm trying and failing to find the KSU library catalogue, so I can't tell you whether they have anything of this sort, but if you can find the catalogue, a simple title search should allow you to find the printed renewals. If you're as unsuccessful as I've been at finding the catalogue, email Cindy Kristof, tell her that you're trying to find printed editions of the copyright renewals (without specifying the details if she doesn't ask for them), and ask her for help finding out whether Ken has copies. NOW As far as your fair-use questions, see the nonfree images in Holy Rosary Catholic Church (St. Marys, Ohio), St. Patrick's Catholic Church (St. Patrick, Ohio), and Port Jefferson School. I've not gotten any objections to my use of these images with these rationales, which basically approach the destroyed building like a dead person: the person's not going to come back to life, and the building can't be rebuilt completely correctly, so these images are nonreplaceable. Since KSU's previously granted permission for personal use, this will be relevant, since it's not as if they're charging for everything. Note that the images from the historical society (are they in the Franklin Township Hall, by any chance?) may not be owned by the society, since of course they generally don't have to be as careful about copyright as university archives do; and just remember that year of publication, not year of creation, is critical. Finally, remember that negatives can be made from prints, so the idea of "photos from 1920s, negatives from 1960s" isn't at all impossible. Nyttend (talk) 04:23, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
- Must have been confused; I thought the Township Hall was some sort of historical museum. I've only once stopped in Kent; it was raining so hard that I got almost no photos, and when I tried to get photos at Ravenna, I went literally just half a block from my car in the time that it took to go from dry to soaking wet. My knowledge of Portage County historical sites is markedly less than my knowledge of sites elsewhere in the state :-) What I'm meaning is selling the rights to use to the image, since you could make copies for free. I'd still advise that you try to find out whether they got renewed, but without that knowledge, such images would surely be a good employment of fair use. Nyttend (talk) 05:55, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
- I actually don't remember getting any photos in Mantua other than File:Mantua Station Brick Commercial District.jpg and File:Mantua Center District buildings.jpg; I'm definitely thinking of the building seen in File:Franklin Township Hall 1.jpg (I didn't upload any photos of it), and apparently I'm just forgetting its actual use. - I grew up in Franklin Township. I also say "I'm from Kent, Ohio." because that's the nearest town, I went to the high school there, and it was my mailing address. The house he lives in is located in Franklin Township. That point cannot be argued. --JonRidinger (talk) 15:42, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

- I have already shown you the actual property listing verifying it's in Franklin Township. How do you argue with that? And seriously, I am fully aware of the 3RR rule, but it wouldn't be considered vandalism since I have a legitimate source backing my claim. Wikipedia allows us to be precise. A lot of people say they're from a certain place when they actually don't live there, but near it. When he won the British Open, he said he was from Kent, Ohio and actually lived in Stow, Ohio, which can be documented. --JonRidinger (talk) 15:50, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for May 24
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Northeast Ohio, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Lake County and Eastern League (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

The Jake/the Prog
I wanted to send you a note regarding my recent edit on the Progressive Field talk page since it indirectly mentions one of your edits. I'd like you to review my comments since I'm trying to prove the lack of existence of something, which is always tricky. (This smacks of the topic of a WP essay, but I can't find one.) BIG TEN REVISION
Jon, I understand your point about wanting to eliminate the Rutgers Women's Basketball loss in the NCAA finals because they were not a part of the Big Ten at the time BUT if you look at the entire page you will see the past of Rutgers and Maryland is a part of the page. For example, Rutgers NIT championship last year is on the page and it was before they were apart of the Big Ten. You will also see Maryland's accomplishments there as well. Happy holidays and a Happy New Year! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brianlowy (talk • contribs) 14:03, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
- Really, none of the championships or achievements should be listed if they happened when a school wasn't part of the conference. Joining the conference doesn't retroactively make them Big Ten accomplishments. Maryland's accomplishments should also not be there since they happened as a member of the ACC. If they are listed, they need to have a footnote and shouldn't be counted in any total number. --JonRidinger (talk) 03:44, 27 December 2014 (UTC)
