Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Johnzy13, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Shalor and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

Notes

[edit]

Hi! I think that this is a good start, but it needs more editing for flow and expansion. Read over this brochure on editing and creating book articles, as it will be very helpful.

That aside, I share your professor's concern over the Stoll claims. Was he the only person to claim that the work was fake? If not, then you should include these other viewpoints as well. Rebuttals to his claims, especially from other academics in the field, would be good to add as well. You should also have a general reception section - the article shouldn't focus too heavily on Stoll's criticism alone.

Something else to keep in mind, however, is that you don't want the article to be redundant to the overall article on Menchu. The autobiography is about her and it looks like the controversy and autobiography is covered in her article, so you want to be able to show where the book is independently notable outside of her. • This is shaping up a little better and I've done some editing for grammar and formatting. My main concern at this point is that the article may be seen as redundant to Menchu's article. You need to have more information that's specific to the book, such as the following:
  1. A development section that reviews what led to the book getting made. Did Menchu always want to put out a book or was she approached and persuaded by Burgos? What hardships did they face with publication? Were there any specific barriers or things that Burgos (or Menchu) had to overcome before finishing the book?
  2. A bigger critical reception section. You have one review, which is good, but this should generally have a fuller reception section.
  3. The controversy section should give a better overview of the entire controversy. Keep in mind that you can definitely pull from Menchu's article for this as far as content and sourcing goes, but there should definitely be a focus on the book. You shouldn't focus on Stoll solely, but also keep in mind that you can give him more weight in the section if there's the sourcing to justify this. Rebuttals and agreement would also be good to add.
I hope this helps - let me know if you have more questions. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 21:15, 13 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
