Re. Basque portal
[edit]Hey Joe. Thank you for updating the portal. Everything looks fine, I just had to fix the dates in the archive (when something is archived, the date corresponds to when the article/picture/biography was selected and placed on the portal, no when it was archived). Keep up the good work! Regards, Húsönd 15:46, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

- Murders who because of thier actions have laws created i.e. Jessica's Law are in fact notable. Not to mention his two years of National Media attention.--Joebengo 19:05, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
- I understand how AfD works, and that the decision is not a majority vote - I asked THF to weigh in on this issue because I respect his non-biased opinion on this issue - an issue we've had disagreements about in the past [see AfD - Patrick Syring for details]. Between the "living under a rock" comment, and now, this accusation of bad faith (accusing me of canvassing?), I'm really discouraged and disappointed with your attitude about this. We're all here to make the project a success and the fact that you've personalized this discussion has left me feeling a lot less enthusiastic about making my opinions heard here. Popkultur 02:14, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
- I in no way was trying to discourage you about my attitude, I simply put that notice there because the first person who's talk page I looked at for possible canvassing (which I do randomly with all AfD's that I'm involved with) came up with a request from you to him, while all in good faith I or anyone else wouldn't know about your past with him and if he is simply someone who agrees with everything you say or honestly shares his opinion. Please don't take anything too seriously here (the internet) because everything you see is written and not spoken you may feel that I'm being rude but in reality I was just being funny (in regards to the under the rock statement). The checks and balances of the AfD process are what makes Wikipedia a trusted source for information and while it may be hard to share opinions it is all for the good of the project as a whole. Best regards--Joebengo 02:32, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Words to avoid and POV
[edit]I took your advice and visited Talk:ETA. Following a link from there, I noticed that Wikipedia does not label groups as terrorist (see Wikipedia:Use of the word terrorism (policy development) and Wikipedia:Words to avoid#Extremist, terrorist and freedom fighter. If you want to avoid insinuating your POV into articles, I suggest you desist from using that term (unless you are quoting someone, which would be fine). I couldn't find any consensus otherwise on the talk page, nor do I think that (even if one existed) the ETA article should be an exception to our established principles. Wikipedia is not a forum.

[edit]This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Afjrotc.JPG. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:42, 7 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Tdwp1.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Tdwp1.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 06:26, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Ohio State University
[edit]The article Ohio State University you nominated as a good article has failed , see Talk:Ohio State University for reasons why the nomination failed. If or when these points have been taken care of, you may apply for a new nomination of said article. If you oppose this decision, you may ask for a reassessment. -- Noetic Sage 16:45, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
Basque-American
[edit]Did you even read the discussion in the Basque-American page? The reason I deleted those people because I don't view them as Basque-Americans. Basque-Americans, in my opinion, are people of Basque descent whose his/her Basque Anscestors came to America directly from the Basque Country, not from a third party country, aka Latin American. These people where not deleted without explination. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.7.131.198 (talk) 17:20, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
- An explanation is something you put in the summary of the edit page. Because not everyone checks the discussion page after every edit and "discussions" usually need to occur before an edit as such is made. Hopefully you understand.--Joebengo 04:40, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Tdwp1.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Tdwp1.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 07:43, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, the concern is still there. Basically, you would need to write on the image discussion page why it would not be possible to replace an image of a band with a free image. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 05:41, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Cguardjrotc.JPG
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Cguardjrotc.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 14:08, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:DaytonFlag.gif
[edit]Image:DaytonFlag.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
