I feel a little left out in the discussion of some of the material on Randal's page. I wrote the entirety of the first (fairly lengthy) version of the "PROM" course (as well as much of the other material that the two of us have taught), including the references to Gilligan's island. The first version of the material wound up in my book Effective Perl Programming (which he tech edited for an attribution on the cover). I'm not whining - it's just not accurate. --Joseph N. Hall ([e-mail snipped]) -- totally new to this Wikipedia stuff so I hope I'm not marking up excessively idiotically
- If you think it needs correcting you are welcome to make whatever changes you think necessary. Just be sure to cite your sources so others can verify your work. —Charles P. (Mirv) 20:15, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
AfD Nomination: Joseph N. Hall
[edit]I've nominated the article Joseph N. Hall for deletion under the Articles for deletion process. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case I do not feel that Joseph N. Hall satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion. I have explained why in the nomination space (see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Joseph N. Hall. Don't forget to add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of each of your comments to sign them. You are free to edit the content of Joseph N. Hall during the discussion, but please do not remove the "Articles for Deletion" template (the box at the top). Doing so will not end the discussion. --Ktdreyer 19:23, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
- Please accept my congratulations on the keep result of the second AfD nomination. I think the article is off to a good start now
:)
. I added Template:US-compu-bio-stub and look forward to others' contributions. --Ktdreyer 02:38, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
Calling programmers
[edit]We need coders for the WikiProject Disambigation fixer. We need to make a program to make faster and easier the fixing of links. We will be happy if you could check the project. You can Help! --Neo139 09:04, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
Request for Protection
[edit]Your request for protection on TRS-80 has been denied. The level of vandalism taking place is not severe enough to warrant semi-protection, although I will look into blocking several of the involved IP addresses. I hope you find this response satisfactory, and if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to leave them on my talk page. Thank you for taking the time to file a request for protection. Regards, RyanGerbil10(Kick 'em in the dishpan!) 16:03, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
Userboxes
[edit]Hey, I love the grammar userboxes. I'm a stickler for spelling and grammar too. NickBurns 14:41, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
Now I'm embarrassed - I realized I incorrectly labeled this section "userboxers". So much for that "stickler" tag. NickBurns 01:30, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:Kanakaredes.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Kanakaredes.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

I just spotted your comments on Image:Polarlicht.jpg today and copied them across to the image description page on Commons. Since that image had been uploaded to the Commons, it is quite possible that nobody was watching the En version of the page. I'm inclined to suspect that this may be an accidental copyright violation, but it is harder to verify, since the source links don't work anymore. I've come across problems like this before, where people find an image on a NASA, US military or gov site and assume it must therefore be PD without checking whether the source site was just using a licensed 3rd party image. I tried looking for some aurora images a couple of years ago, and found it difficult to locate any PD images other than the top down view of aurora from the space shuttle. -- Solipsist 16:19, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
- On the other hand scratch that. Copying the comments to the Commons page seems to have done the trick and Commons:User:Para has updated the sourcce links. They confirm that the author was Senior Airman Joshua Strang and the image is clearly licensed PD. -- Solipsist 19:46, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

Wow, WOW
[edit]We're not worthy, we're not worthy, bow down and worship the holy prodigy :D Hi! I've read that RD Plumtree article when I was small and it left a deep impression on me and I just wanted to say hello and very very welcome here. I'm from the Philippines currently in Japan. Btw , I used to program in Perl. Uh , that's all. Is there a reprint of that article? Cheers. Amazing amazing. --Jondel (talk) 01:29, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
