Joanne!

[edit]

Hello to Joanne! Great job on everything! Babajobu 12:05, 1 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Can you help me....

[edit]

Can you help me sort some things out on IRC. I have tried but the people ban me from wikipedia-en-vadalism without letting me speak, even if I only PM them or try speak to them about the issue on their talk page. --Adam1213 06:21, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Admin

[edit]

I so badly want to nominate you for admin. I know you have only been here a liitle more than 2 and a half months but still you probaly going to be elected as a admin even with that time. My current self-nom RFA is doing good with 6-2 one of the 2 oppose came from being a bad speller and I was here later than u by a week and u are a better editor than me. Want me to nominate u now or wait for later --JAranda | watz sup 08:01, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi JAranda! Thanks for the offer, but I'd rather wait until I've been here for three months, just to make sure. Good luck with your RFA though! --JoanneB 08:04, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
You're not the only person who wants to nominate JoanneB for adminship. Take a queue number. JIP | Talk 08:06, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Durin, you, Redwolf24, and others. Everyone want to nominate her. Her RFA will clearly get ALOT of votes --JAranda | watz sup 08:10, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
From what I've seen, I'm positive that I'll be able to support you when you are nominated. (And thanks for your help on ergative verbs. I haven't acted on it yet, as I sometimes get a bit caught up in other articles, but when I have a bit more time at the weekend, at least the information is already there for me now!) This barnstar is awarded to you for your exceptional help in assiting me setting up language files on User:Cool Cat/IRC Bot. It was a demanding task as wikipedia was stressfully slow. "Thank you" in over 465 languages. Arigato gozaimashita! --Cool Cat Talk 21:41, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

User page vandalism

[edit]

Thanks for reverting the vandalism at my talk page! At the time you reverted, I was at school, so I missed out on blocking the anon. The weird thing is, I hadn't had any contact with the vandal before, so I don't understand why he vandalized on the first place... Titoxd(?!?) 01:42, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted this to a fuller version, for reasons stated on the talkpage. I notice that the anon. vandal (who also vandalized my userpage) tried to list it for deletion (but failed to do it correctly)[1], apparently trying to get rid of incriminating information on his fraudulent business (or possible the fraudulent business from which he bought his degree). I don't think we should have articles on clear diploma mills unless we can expose them as such, but doing that is actually a public service, and I would hate giving in to vandalism like this. u p p l a n d 08:58, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure which article you're referring to, but I have done quite a bit of Wikifying of diverse articles recently and I sometimes wonder if anyone else ever looks at them. Comment from user page

[edit]

Thank you Joanne for your message. I am a new contributor and am making mistakes. I did not knwo I had deleted foreign language links. Sorry! Marvin.

Can you do something about this?

[edit]

I'm not yet familiar with wiki procedures. You just reverted vandalism by 216.174.135.2 who has done a lot of the same in many articles. Can you get his "future contributions" blocked? Jclerman 19:45, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Yes, I've seen him. He can be 'blocked' for a certain amount of time, and when he acts again in the near future, he probably will be. At the moment, I can't do that myself, since I'm not one of the admins, but I'll keep an eye on him and warn an admin if he needs to be blocked. In the future, you can also report a vandal like this on WP:AIV, a page that admins watch closely to see who needs to be blocked. However, please before doing so, warn the user first. There's more information on how to do that on Wikipedia:Vandalism. Thanks for reporting this one! Regards, --JoanneB 19:50, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism by 212.85.15.86

[edit]

I notice that you have already complained to this user, and I think you are more familiar with the vandalism procedures than I am, and in any case I don't have time to read them up until this evening. The user is still vandalising, e.g. Bubonic_plague, which I'm about to revert (but someone got there first!). Would you mind doing the follow-up for me?

Question

[edit]

Hi, I have a question, I hope that you can help me. I propose the change of denomination for Trentino-South Tyrol: there was a lot of discussion. We have found a new denomination that could be a good denomination. Can I change the survey about my first denomination making it null and propose a new survey about the new name (Trentino-Alto Adige/South Tyrol)? --Ilario 18:45, 12 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your support on my RfA. If my RfA passes I will use my new abilities with the common interest in mind. I have asked Essjay and Celestianpower to mentor me for a bit until I have some more experience with the important aspects of being an administrator. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

About your RfA

[edit]

Just let you know that I support it now, but won't vote, I will refrain voting everytime someone opens the subject of braking a record or saying that in one cases we don't need to vote. The reason I opposed first was because I needed evidences of article contributions, one of the main reasons is that if we required only vandal fighting, any new user that wish to be an admin could fight vandals by reverting their changes and that we would know nothing more about that user when we should before promoting them. Regards. Fad (ix) 01:41, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you'll excuse me for butting in, Jo, but I just wanted to say that I reckon this is a very well-considered comment. Good on you, Fadix, for letting her know. fuddlemark (fuddle me!) 06:12, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I'll excuse you Mark, no problem :-) And I agree with Mark about this comment, thank you Fadix! I am very glad you support me now. The RfA has been way to much about vote records, so I see why you don't vote, I really appreciate you letting me know this however. Regards, JoanneB 09:30, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Dalelands vs The Dalelands

[edit]

Hi, I tried to switch these two pages (probably against the rules), but as of your edits both Dalelands and The Dalelands have turned into redirects, deleting all the lovely contents of The Dalelands. Can you explain me why?Poulsen 13:09, 24 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed, thanks :) Poulsen 13:17, 24 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, my mistake, should have double checked after fixing the copy paste move, but apparently I did something wrong. Thanks for letting me know! For the future, take a look at Help:Renaming (moving) a page - you need to use the move option in the tab - and not cut and paste. Cut and pastes don't take the edit history wih them and thus violate the GDFL copyright terms. If it's a complex move (like this case, where the 'destination' that you want to move it to already exists) you need admin assistance, go to Wikipedia:Requested moves Regards, --JoanneB 13:22, 24 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You're both welcome, of course! I wonder what they do it for too, but I always take user page vandalism as a sign that that user is obviously doing something good ;-) --JoanneB 23:09, 26 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, could you have a look again at the deletion of this list, there were 13 votes to keep, and 13 votes to delete, one of which was probably a sockpuppet of the original nominator, their edits (the nominator) Special:Contributions/72.144.161.73 (the sockpuppet vote) Special:Contributions/72.144.71.234 which both resolve to BellSouth.net Inc.Atlanta, this same user is also likely to be Special:Contributions/65.9.143.76 which is also a BellSouth.net Inc.Atlanta address and Special:Contributions/StabRule. Thanks Arniep 00:30, 27 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

User:Lulu of the Lotus-Eaters has pointed out there might have been a bit of confusion here as the article List of Jewish lawyers was wrongly created by another user to circumvent the voting at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Log/2005_November_18#List_of_Jewish_jurists and was voted a speedy delete. However, the voting on the original article List_of_Jewish_jurists seems to be no consensus 13 keep, 12 delete? Regards Arniep 00:43, 27 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, I meant to only delete List of Jewish lawyers, which I closed as a delete at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Jewish lawyers. Somehow I got confused by all the redirects, I guess. You are right, there does not seem to be any consensus for the other page, so I restored it. My apologies, it won't happen again! --JoanneB 03:36, 27 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Joann, should the debate Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Log/2005_November_18#List_of_Jewish_jurists on afd be closed as all the other debates from 17th/18th seem to have been? Regards Arniep 14:44, 27 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the debate should be closed, although not all others from those dates have been, as of yet. But since I'm a new admin (since last week), I'm leaving this one to an admin with more AfD experience. --JoanneB 14:53, 27 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, unfortunately the user who originally nominated the list and placed a double vote has now placed another vote at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Jewish jurists under their new account User:StabRule. Another admin has claimed they will not warn them because this may mean they develop more sophisticated methods of cheating but this reasoning seems a bit nonsensical to me. Requested article

[edit]

Hello, nice to meet you, Joanne B! My name is Hatto from Japan. I'd like to request people's article to you because you are a native-Dutch speaker and are able to write and speak English. I'd like you to edit Masashi Tashiro's article in Dutch language. If you don't know Masashi Tashiro, I explain about him to you from now. He was a very famous television performer in Japan, but he was made to be dismissed from the entertainment world because of his several crimes (sneak shot, stimulant use etc). In addition, he has been once chosen as a provisional winner of Time magazine's Person of the Year in 2001. Maybe, I think it's so interesting if his article is editted in various languages. and so, I'd like to edit his article in foreign languages. Please edit his article in Dutch if you are OK! Hatto 13:18, 29 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm sorry to disappoint you but I only translate articles about things that interest me or that I know a lot about. I'm afraid Masahi Tashiro does fit either of those criteria. I see the value of translating various articles to several languages, but for me an article like this does not have much priority, sorry. Regards, JoanneB 14:26, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

199.43.172.254

[edit]

Please consider another longer block for IP 199.43.172.254. You just blocked on the 16th and the vandal is at it again. It's supposedly a multiple user IP, but a look at the contribuitions reveals that ALL of the edits have been vandalsim,s o I do not feel a long block is unwarranted for this IP, becuase you're only stopping what, to this date, has been nothing but pure vandalism. Please block. Thanks!Gator (talk) 15:23, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I took another look at the contributions and decided not to go for a longer block. There have been valid edits from that IP the last couple of days (just look at the ones that were not rolled back). However, next time someone vandalises from that IP, I will block for longer and send an email to the address that's mentioned on the talk page. Regards, JoanneB 15:56, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
