[edit]Hello, I'm LynxTufts. I noticed that you made one or more changes to an article, Fright Night, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Welcome!
[edit]Hello, Jmshoberg, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Fright Night, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.
To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)
In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms our use and policy on paid editing.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. before the question. Again, welcome! -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:30, 14 November 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Jmshoberg. I've added this template because it appears that (based upon your username) you are trying to add content about a stage adaptation of Fright Night which you may be somehow associated with to the Wikipedia article written about the movie. The director of the play in the information you tried to add is given as James Michael Shoberg and one of the ensemble players is given as Carrie L. Shoberg, so the similarity between your username and those two names is obvious. Per Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not, Wikipedia is not really a lot of things, but it's certainly not a place for a person to try and write about themselves or their endeavors. Even though Wikipedia doesn't expressly prohibit conflict-of-interest editing, it does highly discourage it because it can lead to some serious problems. So, I suggest you take a look Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide to get a better idea as to what kinds of edits the Wikipedia community typically feels are acceptable for COI editors to make. I've also added the template because it contains some links to pages (the links are in blue) where you can find out more information about Wikipedia in general. In addition to the above, there might also be an issue with your choice of username. Editors are allowed to use their real names as their usernames, but only in accordance with Wikipedia:Username policy#Real names; so, if you're really James Michael Shoberg, then there's no need change your username. On the other hand, if you're not James Michael Shoberg, then you should change your username since it might be seen as an attempt to impersonate him which is not something Wikipedia is going to allow. You can request a change of username by following the instructions given at Wikipedia:Changing username. Finally, I am going to start a discussion about the content you're trying to add at Talk:Fright Night#Stage play. You're welcome to participate in the discussion if you want, but please don't continue to try and re-add the stuff about the play to the article until a consensus is established to do so. If you continue to try and add the content without consensus, it will continue to be removed and you will likely be seen as edit warring. In addition, a couple of IP account have also tried to add/re-add the content as well; so, if this was also you, please be advised of Wikipedia:Username policy#Using multiple accounts. If you have any questions about any of this, you can ask them below, at the Wikipedia:Teahouse or at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:18, 14 November 2018 (UTC)

- Hi, I'm writing in regard to my posting a section on the 1985 Fright Night film page about my stage adaptation. Initially, I found the addition earlier this week. I had nothing to do with its creation. However, once I did happen upon it, I went on to elaborate and supply more details. The entry was in no way meant to be self-indulgent; it was comprised entirely of on-point fact and not opinions; and I even added a newspaper article citation to back up the information. The show has since closed, so it's not even beneficial as a possibly perceived advertising ploy. I simply wanted to expand on something someone else already posted on Wikipedia, and the stage play is relevant to the film under the "Adaptations" section. Thank you so much for your time. - Hi Jmshoberg -- thanks for being forthright! I work on conflict of interest issues in WP and Marchjuly had pinged me at my talk page. Please don't edit directly about your play, but instead offer suggestions on the relevant talk page (the talk page is at Talk:Fright Night) with a note that you are the writer and director. That is how we manage conflict of interest - disclosure and "peer review", on the talk page. If that doesn't make sense, please leave me a note below. Thanks! - Hi Jmshoberg. Please understand that sometimes when you're being provided some general information about Wikipedia it can seem as if you're being accused of doing something improper. That wasn't my intent here, but self-promotion is, unfortunately, a problem that Wikipedia has to often deal with even if done unintentionally or with the best intentions. Thank you for clarifying things since this makes it much easier for others to help you with your editing. Jytdog is quite experienced at helping editors navigate Wikipedia's various policies and guidelines related to COI; so, I asked him to help here as well.Just for general reference, if you're interested in theatre and horror films, etc., you might want to check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Theatre and Wikipedia:WikiProject Horror. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:45, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
