Jimmy McNatt
[edit]I noticed your contributions to Jimmy McNatt. You seem fairly new at Wikipedia, so I thought I'd share a few tips/let you know about some WP conventions based on your edits.
- In the "DEFAULTSORT" meta markup at the bottom, of the page you changed it from "Macnatt, Jimmy" to "Mcnatt, Jimmy" ([1]). It's actually supposed to remain Macnatt for sorting purposes, because people with "McX"-styled last names need to alphabetically show up at the beginning of the M section in its respective categories, not the middle. This adoption of using "Macnatt", for example, happened about a year ago, so it's actually correct as is.
- This edit in which you changed his nationality field from [[United States|American]] to {{USA}} is not correct per WP:MOSFLAG, which states (among other things), "Avoid flag icons in infoboxes". Putting a country's flag in an infobox for nationality purposes lends undue weight toward that person's nationality. Ultimately, the link to American that you removed is what's actually correct to use, not the flag.
- Hoopedia is not a reliable source to add as a reference. It's another basketball-specific wiki that anyone with a registered account can edit, so its content cannot be trusted (one of the biggest ironies of Wikipedia is that it requires reliable sources for its articles, yet in itself is not considered a reliable source...same goes for Hoopedia, which as far as I can tell rarely, if ever, gets referenced).
I've reverted the above edits, but let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! Jrcla2 (talk) 15:41, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
- Hello, it's nice to have some input from a Wikipedia expert (a first for me). Your edits are duly noted. Can you help me with one new page? I'm trying to create a template using the same structure as the one currently at the bottom of the Jimmy McNatt page (1943 AAU All-America Team). Do you know how to do this? Thanks! Jkirks (talk)
Invitation to take part in a study
[edit]I am a Wikipedian, who is studying the phenomenon on Wikipedia. I need your help to conduct my research on about understanding "Motivation of Wikipedia contributors." Undoing edits
[edit]Will you please stop flippantly undoing edits solely because you don't know what the edit in question was? It's uncalled for. Jrcla2 (talk) 14:28, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
