Clarence Gilyard

[edit]

Hi, I noticed you’ve put a death date in for him as per The Sunday Times. I feel we have reason to have doubts about this. A few days ago there were several edits from an editor who is likely someone close to Gilyard asserting that the death date is the 23rd and that sources posting the 28th were inferring that as the DOD due to the 28th being the date of announcement. Obviously we can’t base holding off solely on this, however all current articles about his passing trace back to the initial UNLV announcement which does not include a date. Gleaming The Times it appears they are reporting similarly based off the announcement and haven’t verified this date with new data. Rusted AutoParts 18:09, 3 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. That’s speculation. The Times is a respected broadsheet. They fact check everything, and when they’re unsure of a DOD, they tend to just put the month or “death announced on this date”. To revert this again, we really need evidence to the contrary which suggests he died on an earlier date. Thanks --Jkaharper (talk) 18:31, 3 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Gordon Bradt

[edit]

Thank you so much for your patience and thoughtfulness with me as I was trying to enter a death date for my father Gordon Bradt. Your suggestion to wait for a published obituary to cite his death makes so much sense. Terri Bradt (talk) 16:55, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Besoccer

[edit]

Hi Jkaharper. I see that you've been listing a lot of footballers as deceased based on their profiles on "Besoccer". Are we sure that this a reliable source? I'm concerned that they just list everyone above a certain age as "dead", and I'm not sure that the site as a whole qualifies as a WP:RS. Thoughts? Canadian Paul 04:23, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Canadian Paul:, I've been collaborating with the webmaster of that site. All of the ones marked as deceased have been researched. I believe he spoke to an authority in Bolivia who was able to ascertain which players were gone. The one that he was uncertain about was José Bustamante (footballer, born 1921), hence why he's still marked as "retired" on bescoccer – by uncertain I don't mean to say that he believes Bustamante is alive, but rather hasn't had any confirmation to say that he's deceased. A few of the players from other national sides remain elusive also, so I haven't touched their pages, and they should remain in Possibly living for now. With the death of Manuel Muñoz (footballer) last week, the only players confirmed alive from the 1950 World Cup are Antonio Carbajal and Dario Jara Saguier. When that whittles down to just one, hopefully a media source will identify them as the last remaining player so we can rule out those who are still in the Possibly Living People category. Thanks --Jkaharper (talk) 13:53, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for letting me know. Time to remove them from my list then! Canadian Paul 03:25, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
