Destruction of historical sites in Hawaii

Throughout Hawaii, It can see Hawaii through numerous cultural heritages in Hawaii, from natural scenery to national historical sites, national parks, national monuments, or sacred sites that retain Hawaiian customs, religions, and customs. Hawaii is also famous as a world-class tourist destination, so it has a high reputation and dependence on the tourism industry. Before the Pandemic, the number of visitors to Hawaii per day was about 3,000. Since many tourists visit, there are also many cultural sites exposed to tourists accordingly.

Located in the Nuuanu forest, Kaniakapupu is the place where King Kamehameha I fought his last battle to conquer Oahu Island, where he and his men settled and rested, and was then used as a summer palace by King Kamehameha III and Queen Kalama in 1845. Cania Kapufu is famous for being the first government building built in Western architecture. It was also used as a place to worship Heiau or gods. The first damage to the Kaniakapupu site occurred in 2016. Three crosses of the same shape were carved on the collapsing wall of Kaniakapupu. And a family visited Kaniakapupu for a pictorial. Kaniakapupu was eventually closed by visitors who did not respect the cultural heritage site.

Demage Case: Iolani Palace

It was the royal palace of the former Hawaiian kingdom and was used as the royal palace of the Hawaiian kingdom until Queen Liliuokalani, the last monarch of the Hawaiian kingdom, stepped down from power. It is the only palace building that exists in the U.S. territory and is listed on the U.S. History Monument List. In 2014, three gates and glass windows of the palace were damaged. In 2016, Gravity was drawn on the wall of the palace in Iola. The damaged glass front door was built when Iolani Palace was built and is a cultural property for more than 130 years.

Cultural heritage is of great importance as it is a cultural product of a society that has the value to be passed on to the next generation or younger generation for future cultural development. Cultural heritage does not age naturally, but cannot be restored if the cultural heritage site is forcibly damaged.
